So, I have SoC and am getting Clear Sky. I haven't played the former very much, but I really want to get into it (although the rather dull beginning parts have sort of turned me off unfortunately).
I'm not a fan of shotguns and assault rifles, so is there any really good sniper rifles that I can get near the start of the game?
In Clear Sky you can find a Vintorez in the first map. You have to pay someone to fix it, though.
In Shadow of Chernobyl you can get the Fast Firing AK, then go to the Dark Valley to get a Scope.

To be honest, swearing by sniper rifles just doesn't work very well. Sniper ammo is hard to come by at the beginning, and even if you do find it, it's expensive. Plus you need a ranged weapon with more versatility than that, or you're gonna get fucked by a medium-range bandit ambush and you won't be able to quick snipe like a normal fps.
snipers are good for planned assaults or defense, but in the case of an ambush (which happen very often) you're fucked with just a sniper.
Anyone know where the trader in Pripyat is? I'm playing SoC. I prefer a map.
Is there anyone you can buy M209 rounds from in SoC? i used to be rolling in them untill i actually found an M209, now i can't remember where i left them/who i sold them to :saddowns:
I'm tempted to ditch the M209 because i'll probably just piss grenades everywhere once i find some, are grenade launchers actually worth the hassle of finding grenades for them and extra weight?
Just a quick question Facepunch: I can pay the Military patrol next to the derailed train for passing through in SHoC? I just started playing and do not want my story I posted previously to happen again.
The bar trader usually carries about 2-3 M209 rounds (in OL). But yeah they are rare as hell.

In SHoC, no you cannot get a sniper rifle early in game.

Yes.
Preparing to get ready to head towards "The North". aka Red Forest and Pripyat. But first, I have to deal with the Freedom Base.

And for those wondering why my inventory is so heavy. I modified the artifacts to have weight. The Electra Tears are 1.5kg each and the Kolobok's range between 5 and 10kg.
LOL, first time I played I horded around 2000 automatic Kalashnikov rounds before going into the labs.

Can I pay the Bandits for some quality bloodfucker porn at their base? And for how much?

Less than 1000 rubles.

IS 6000 RUBEL IMPORTANT YOU?
Why is there still no CoP on steam? Must I really go to best buy and have to deal with the bandits there trying to rob me of my rubles?
Does anyone even have a map to show me where the Pripyat trader is?

I never saw the guy change his name, nor have I ever seen him before.
People that troll as Steam admins deserve to burn as the scum they are.
They deserve to burn as much as the victims that are stupid enough to fall for that.
too bad nobody falls for that. ever.

There have been a few people dumb enough to fall for it and then post about it on FP for us to humiliate them IIRC. :v:

Same here, I still have a fat stack of 2500 7.62mm rounds in the bar locker. I don't use them much since I prefer to use my VSS (once I actually get it). Good for the occasional trekking in the zone during free play as many of the earlier enemies are extremely weak anyway.

WTF! Go back and play MW2 and snipe snipe snipe. In Stalker, You cant always use an Sniper, like when A mutant runs at you, Bandits hug round a corner, in under ground labs and stuff.
I use assult rifles all the time, and My trusty upgraded shot gun, extra damege, but only holds 5 shots.

It does get way better once past Cordon and the Garbage

They ask for 800, but they just rob you.
I murdered them and broke open their safe, no bloodfucker porn.
Damn them...

Ha ha ha you're so naive. You assume I play those types of games. However, I can see that in Stalker there are real tactical advantages for having a sniper in addition to a backup pistol/shotgun. Like, for example, sieging a bandit camp.
I mean, it's a russian game; it should have at least a Dragunov.
However, I think I can make do with an assault rifle of sorts.
EDIT: Just installed L.U.R.K.

I know exactly what you mean, so let me let you in on a secret. The OTS Pernach is a fully automatic pistol with a 31-round magazine. If you're gonna snipe (and I guarantee you won't be able to carry more than 1 primary weapon in LURK), carry one of those as your sidearm for close-mid range encounters. You can find one for sale at the Bar, but I think you can also loot one off of the commander at the Cordon military outpost. Also, it uses 9x18 rounds, so ammo won't be a problem. Have fun!
clear sky's faction wars was confusing and rather tedious for me
i can see what the developers were trying to do, but it was implemented so poorly that it's not fun at all
half the time when you reach the destination, the event is over
As some of you may know, my vanilla CoP game has recently become completely overrun with Pseudogiants, and I'm not sure why. But I'm beginning to see a pattern.
They seem to like the concrete bathtub anomaly :v:
