The one thing I miss from the "good ol' days" is splitscreen multiplayer with 4 players.
how about all of you realize none of you know what the fuck you are talking about ever ever ever
for people who apparently hate call of duty you spend every fucking thread talking about it
How about you stop babbling bullshit and start spelling like a proper human being?
ITT People bashing CoD and its fans while at the same time putting up their own games in the same way as the people they hate.

you aren't as clever as you think you are
This thread made me depressed as all hell.
I hate 90% of games today. It's the same shit being shoveled out, but reviewers and the public just eat that shit up]/b]
All shooters are gritty, realistic, U.S.A V.S. the world shooters, with repetitive plots, characters, and locales. (INNOVATIVE GAMEPLAY)
I honestly cannot stand modern shooters. Why can't games be based around fun, for fucks sake?
Game developpers really can't seem to grasp that realism is worth squat if it takes away from fun.
Halo: Combat Evolved is the kind of game modern day developers should base off.
Grand storyline and great levels (Even if they were linear) and a simple but amazingly fun (You heard that right! Not "Competitive", "Challenging" or "Filled with cursewords and 12 year olds"... "Fun"!) multiplayer.
Oh, and the demo. Multiplayer restricted to the most basic yet amazing map ever, and one singleplayer level that didn't really even spoil the full game.
And this.

CoD is fun.
HALO: Combat Evolved is the kind of thing modern day developers should base off.
YES.
I get made fun of for loving it but
FOR FUCKS SAKE THE ORIGINAL HALO IS AN AMAZING FUCKING GAME.
Good fucking storyline (Make fun of me for that one), Fucking Great level design, good fucking gameplay, a fucking long campaign that can be replayed easily,
AND A NICE FUCKING MULTIPLAYER THAT COMPLEMENTS THE GAME NICELY
Yeah unfortunately I have to get two separate games if I want a good multiplayer game and a fun singleplayer experience
are you forgetting ArmA 2?
Call of Duty: Black Ops is more fun than Half-Life 2.
The singleplayer? No
Black Ops has better gunplay but Half Life 2 is longer, more atmospheric, and doesn't have that linear feeling to it like Black Ops

I haven't played it and I didn't mean it literally but just to make the point
Eagerly awaiting RO:HOS and TES:V Skyrim. The only two games where I will feel as if I got my money's worth. :frogc00l:

Its the most realistic game ever made.
Mind you, its mainly the developers who are the fault at game lengths. I mean look at Spore; where is the fucking ending?

Games based around fun? What the fuck are you on about? I have fun playing CoD and BF. Please explain to me what you are talking about because this post is really dumb.
FPS games are going down the drain IMO.
All shooters are gritty, realistic
No they aren't. Any linear FPS game where you kill more than 30 people from start to end is an unrealistic game. They just take *mildy* realistic shooting mechanics and then put you in some fucking absurd scenario where you go and play "shoot the retards."
Arma = Realistic
Red Orchestra = Realistic
Call of Duty/Homefront/Medal of Honor/Blacksight =/= Realistic.
It's because douches (at school you will hear a lot of people talking about Call of Duty, and they don't play as many video games, meaning they don't have a wide knowledge of good video games) play video games as well now, as it was only a thing for "geeks" years ago. Developers seemed to have noticed that it doesn't take much to get them to buy their game, such as Call of Duty.

You can try Bulletstorm. It's really fun to go crazy with the guns and kicks in that game. It seems like the thing you're looking for. It came out this year.
why would you get depressed over videogames?

Well it's supposed to be a realistic setting which seems to be completely true lately
games for me just seem to lack charm

Implying people other than them all hate modern FPSs.
Recently I played through Homefront, and the singleplayer was pretty bad. It was too short, took about 2:30 hours to complete, and it felt very confined. The entire way through, you could only climb on ladders if you pressed the "E" button (so only certain ladders could be climbed), every door had to be opened for you, the paths you took were sometimes 3 feet wide, with small hedges about 6 inches tall blocking each side (you couldn't jump over.) It was probably the most claustrophobic game I've ever played, if you are going to make a linear game at least give us the ability to choose what we want to do, have multiple paths/wide open levels, and have time to scavenge/look for powerups and new weapons, like in Metro 2033.
why would you get depressed over videogames?
Complaining over the internet is easy. Just because complaining won't accomplish anything, and many people in fact like the more recent games, doesn't mean people won't complain.
And honestly, you're doing the same thing they are. You're complaining over them complaining even though you probably know it's not going to do anything.

I can't wait for RO2.
Also, hell Star Wars Battlefront was more realistic than Call of Duty :v:
My original point was lost in my frothing rage.
Every era game suffered from stereotypical game play. This generation is no different but going ballistic won't do shit about it.
Assassin's Creed 2 took me 27 hours to finish. 5 hour games my ass
Assassin's Creed 2 took me 27 hours to finish. 5 hour games my ass
inFamous took me several days.
So did Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2.
Oblivion I've been playing for a week.
Fallout 3 I never got passed the original ending into the DLC.
Killzone 2 took me a day.
Ace Combat 4 took me several days.
Seriously, you're complaining about the most selling games out on the market.
Both Uncharted games are lengthy and have satisfying story lines.
As I said before, you compare the shit games of today to the best of a previous era and you should be slapped for it.
