I disagree with this theory.
If the Combine's Brains were in their chest, why would headshots still be lethal to them?
[editline]13th March 2011[/editline]
It's a really good theory though.
Obviously something very important is stuck inside their empty heads making it a dangerous place to be shot at.

I was expecting this answer, I shall counter by asking;
What is the logic with removing a sensitive and vital organ and replacing it with equally sensitive and equally vital equipment?
You could have just put that in the chest and it would have made no different other than making the process less complex and redundant.
Just email Gabe if you want a straight answer, he'll usually cc things like this to the person who designed that level.

It's not really sensitive considering that on hard it takes at least two .357 shots to the head to kill a combine soldier.
Cremators have permastealth like dark templars in sc2 obviously.
Its a nuclear reactor on its stomach obviously.
It's not really sensitive considering that on hard it takes at least two .357 shots to the head to kill a combine soldier.
Actually it takes 1 shot to the head, 2 or 3 to the body.
Actually it takes 1 shot to the head, 2 or 3 to the body.
Hurr durr its a game, and it wouldn't be fun if you had to waste an entire clip into the body of every single combine soldier instead of an easy kill for getting a headshot.
What's with all the dumb ratings? It mostly likely is a glitch, and it's totally irrational to come to a conclusion that it's a cut npc.
Yeah same with in Eli's lab there's a Cremator's head, also if you look on the computer there's a picture of it.
Late but, I sorta wish they woulda kept him.

They would have been pretty good for area denial early on in the game. You just have a pistol and a crowbar, and theres two or three of the fuckers down an alley or in front of a building, you have no chance of defeating them and you would be forced to move on or get sprayed with acid and die.
The whole concept of the cremators is cool and can still fit with the current HL2 theme even though they were designed for when HL2 was a much more dark and gritty based game.

I would like to have the cremator in a HL game now.

An intentional bug. Right.
Solution: De-compile the map and look at any sort of entities or triggers pointed at the bodies telling them to dissapear.

If you're interested, there's lots of info and media about the Cremator on the wiki.
Also, it seems pretty dark that children are slaves creating Cremators in the Cremator factory.
Well, with seeing the pictures, it just looks like their bodies were removed as a bug or something because the crows are still in the same place. If something came by the crows would have left.

Do you guys not listen at all? Ai_disable was set to 1 (hell, its in bold text right on the screen), they normally fly off the second you drive up there. I'm not saying your wrong, but when all you have to back your side up is crows not flying off due to a convar then you might want to try actually reading half the shit.
It's a possibility, as there were syths being made in the Citadel.
It's a possibility, as there were syths being made in the Citadel.
No there weren't, the citadel was stopped "working" at the end of HL2, and only supported vital functions to sustain itself, and even that was only so it would last long enough to blow itself up.
holy shit youre either thick or very very slow
[editline]14th March 2011[/editline]
youre seriously implying a million scripted sequences would happen behind your back for no reason whatsoever
Actually I think he's just implying that the game is implying that the bodies were taken away when you weren't looking.
if a cremator was supposedly walking by, the crow npcs could have been easily deleted rather than flying off with ai disabled
[editline]14th March 2011[/editline]
fucks sake the ragdoll was removed due to optimization on consoles
yo
crows fly away when you go there the first time, ai was disabled so they didn't fly away. if there were to be a cremator, then they couldn't have become scared and flown away, because they wouldn't be there, since your arrival already scared them off.
understand?
Here's what you do... Play Garry's Mod. Open said map... Make flying RC Contraption with Airboat chair. Place RT Camera near the scene. Grab the RT Screen from PHX, and weld it in a way you can still see where your driving. Watch the RT Screen while driving to the next point.

He's not saying the Cremator physically appears and takes them away, they just disappear when you aren't looking.
He's saying that storywise, it's possible that a Cremator took them away, as they are no longer there was you return.
and knowing Valve I doubt its a meaningless way to save resources.
knowing Valve i say this is definitely a way to save resources and not intended at all. And of course some crazy fanboy
comes around and writes a whole story about the 2 missing bodies... Shit, and now Valve will pick it up and say it was all intended. As always.

As the theroy states, there's a lot of electronical equipment inside the head. If that gets shot, they die. Theroy remains. :v:

They probably think that by putting in mechanical equipment they weren't as sustainable to gunfire as the fleshy humans once were. Or they think that it is the only reasonable place to put it considering their entire chest is occupied by their brain.

But like I said, moving the brain to a safer location and replacing it with vital equipment that you can't live without anyway, pretty much defeats the purpose of moving it at all.

That breathing sound made me physically cringe.
I'd love to see this, or a similar enemy, in the next Half-Life game.
I'd also like to see the Zombine variants of the fast and poison zombies.

Jesus, that third image gave me a shock.
Valve can really pull off psychological horror.

Third one is just a depressing reference as you and Alyx travel through White Forest on your own. You later see the couch couple alive at the base.

I guess they didn't think it through at all and decided to follow how humans were made biological.
