notice the scar on the chest
the brain is in the chest cavity, with the head being a steel mold, fitting the helmet's shape, holding electronic equipment.
this is why the zombine heads are gnawed down almost to the collarbone, due to the fact that, because headcrabs probably pull the cerebellum strings to trigger movement (which is why the movement is jerky), they are simply trying to get as close to the brain as possible, for the best reception.
i can also see some kind of pinkish wound at the upper left of the skull, so that might be where they operated.
Wouldn't be too much trouble to re-wire the eyes?
i mean, the eyes are still in the same place and last time i saw something about eye biology i heard they're directly connected to the brain
i might be wrong though, i'm better at chemistry V:v:V
But like I said, moving the brain to a safer location and replacing it with vital equipment that you can't live without anyway, pretty much defeats the purpose of moving it at all.
Might be true. But that equipment might be stuff like integreated NVG's, a radar and stuff, giving the caombine a little advantage in fights. I think NVGs are useless in the stomach. :v:
Valve can really pull off psychological horror.
More like an easter egg. You wouldn't think anything of it unless you were a big fan of the game.
I disagree with this theory.
If the Combine's Brains were in their chest, why would headshots still be lethal to them?
[editline]13th March 2011[/editline]
It's a really good theory though.
when killing combine, you can occasionally hear, among other things, "remaining unit contained"
the hud and targeting system among other things was destroyed. commands are no longer being issued to the brain, so there is a failsafe mechanism, sending the brain into an idle state, preventing the unit from further injury. i.e., being hit while on a ledge = instantly drop to the floor instead of falling backwards off the edge and probably breaking a leg or an arm.
the equipment in the head is not as vital as the brain. it does not act like a brain, it simply controls everything that the actual one does.

fucks sake the ragdoll was removed due to optimization on consoles
holy shit
two fixed brush models have to be removed due to optimization
what the fuck kind of console are you talking about, NES?

The only time you hear that is the when the dispatcher says it after killing a Civil Protection Officers.
And as we all (should by now anyway) know, Civil Protection Officers are just regular humans.
Besides, I believe it's "Remaining units contain", ordering to other nearby Officers to respond.
[editline]14th March 2011[/editline]
Looked it up, the sound is indeed named "remainingunitscontain.wav".
when killing cp's there is (very rarely) a splat of yellow blood.
possibly fluid tubes connecting from the brain to a small biological center in the equipment area?
it could be a means to contain nanobots, as a way to send them into the brain and disable the motor functions.
wow, we've really moved on from the subject of cremators :v:

That's just graffiti, no reason to think it's canonically accurate
it's in the game, in the chapter Highway 17, among other areas.
there's a little fenced-in area at the side of a rock wall on the highway, with that big gray propane tank, and a dead civilian holding a revolver, with a blood splatter on the wall behind him. as well as the graffiti,
it's in the game, in the chapter Highway 17, among other areas.
also at the end of EP1 in the train station entrance when escorting citizens.
yes, exactly
I don't understand why Valve cut it. I at least want to see one through a window or fence cleaning up bodies. It's just a artistic feature why remove it? Plus it would creep me the fuck out.
i know
like, during the first chapter. instead of the voritgaunt sweeping, there's a cremator, walking over to a dead body and burning it. then, if you're up against the fence and near it, it looks at you, motions with it's incinerator, and walks away.
it's in the game, in the chapter Highway 17, among other areas.
It's still graffiti, I doubt the rebels know exactly what the inside of a Combine Soldier's head looks like.
It's still graffiti, I doubt the rebels know exactly what the inside of a Combine Soldier's head looks like.
Remember, you remember when you are a CP, when you are a Combine soldier you don't. So some CPs might have disclosed that information, plus it looks like rebels have taken their Armour and barney was also a CP so he would know.
but barney has a human head under the mask.
so the equipment is inside of the skull, then.
Although they're differently-colored and shaped, Metrocop and Soldier masks/heads aren't radically different. But in this case, i'm on the opinion that it's just creative Resistance propaganda to dehumanize Combine. Metrocops likely have heart-rate detecting devices or something that initiate the radio call of their demise, instead of said devices being inside their skulls. Carrying the device is also what probably gave Barney CP access in the city (which is odd, considering the rest of their technology in comparison - you'd think they'd have an ID updater or something that would've revoked his access by then).
It's still graffiti, I doubt the rebels know exactly what the inside of a Combine Soldier's head looks like.
why would they foreshadow something for no reason?

something i noticed:
they obviously wear the thick overcoat as protection from the acid, but it is shown in this video to be so strong that it actually causes splash damage, so thing in the stomach is possibly a shield generator for protection, due to the massive power of the incinerator, with the overcoat being an emergency backup?
or possibly just for protection from outside sources. if the shield is actually being used to deflect something other than acid, that just means things have gotten so bad that people are starting to rebel.
which means a lot of bodies to clean up.
On the subject of that graffiti, don't you think the rebels would have a fair knowladge of what was inside of those masks they have caved in with bricks and crowbars? If you split open a head I think it would be fairly easy to distinguish between brains and mechanics.

Because they would obviously crack open their heads, right?
I mean, sure, some of the rebels are probably truly insane - so a few (probably isolated) individuals did so.

Well considering that the CP units beat the citizens on a daily basis and the other things they did, I think I also would have probably bashed in a few metrocop's skulls.

I'm starting to get the feeling you have no idea what you're talking about...
I don't believe Cremators used acid, at least in the beta. They appear to use some sort of energy weapon, hence how quick and un-fluid-like its projectile is.
If they did not want us to ask about the Cremator, then maybe (I said maybe) they should not have had Alyx collect the Cremator's head that by the time you arrive in retail HL2, and your introduced to one, its already just a dead head in a jar where Eli talks about it, but says that they still don't know what it does.
I mean even in retail HL2, you see the Cremator's head, Mortal Synths, and Ichthyosaur. Considering the difference where the Hydra got cut and Cremator was evident, that should mean they have to do something.
I like the sheer amount of hidden things in Half Life.
I can't think of many other series that have such deep stories.

Also Alyx finds Cremator head and puts it in black mesa east. Easter egg or not, but it's in the game = it's cannonical for me. Maybe they had cremators clean everything up after 7 hour war and then they didn't need them. the bodies in Canals.. For some reason combine have infinite amound of explosive barrels that means they have a factory of them somewhere that means they need them for something (burning bodies) because someone somewhere spent lots of effort making a factory work to make those things.
Eli could have meant "still doesn't know what that does" as in still not exactly sure what it's for on the cremator.
Eli could have meant "still doesn't know what that does" as in still not exactly sure what it's for on the cremator.
Maybe Eli never saw one. Fact is, whatever this thing is in the official story, it looks(at least) exactly like Cremator head.
Also for those who watched the working cremator video: Considering that Game said that EP3 will return the horror that Half Life 1 and 2 had, it would be awesome if we were on some dark warehouse (borealis maybe?) location, without any weapon, hiding from this thing behind the shelves.

The cremator could have another use: Melting ice/snow.
