The cremator could have another use: Melting ice/snow.
Which has almost no purpose, other than making floods.
The cremator could have another use: Melting ice/snow.
So you have a snowy street, you melt snow, it turns into water - you have flooded street. Next morning: (In your mind, change objects and humans to mach Half-Life 2 theme. This is chapter one, Gordon is looking from the window at APC that is arrived to raid the apartments. "See? They're coming for us next!") Gordon: :byewhore:
I disagree with this theory. If the Combine's Brains were in their chest, why would headshots still be lethal to them? [editline]13th March 2011[/editline] It's a really good theory though.
Here's a thought. What if head-shots, or any "lethal" shot isn't lethal at all, instead, it throws them into a catatonic state, to be picked up for repair. Hence the seemingly endless supply of combine soldiers. It's a far stretch, but entirely probable.
Which has almost no purpose, other than making floods.
It does serve a purpose. The Borealis is covered in ice.
I'm starting to get the feeling you have no idea what you're talking about... I don't believe Cremators used acid, at least in the beta. They appear to use some sort of energy weapon, hence how quick and un-fluid-like its projectile is.
They probably left the effect unfinished and the weapon still as hitscan.

I would've preferred the opening of EP1 to go like this: Black Screen. Heavy Breathing Gordon opens his eyes to see a few dead rebels lying 20 or so feet away from him. He hears slow, heavy footsteps, looks over the corpses a little bit to see 2 Cremators walking down the alleyway behind them. Gordon watches the corpses get incinerated, and prepares to get melted next. Then, you hear a deep "Whirrrr?" and a "Gordon!". You see Dog jump off the roof of one of the buildings walling off the alleyway, landing on a Cremator. The second one sweeps its gun around, hits dog across the face with it, and Dog falls. Alyx then jumps on the second Cremator's back, shoots its "Head" (The part at the top) and gets tossed off. As the Cremator is about to... for the lack of a better word, "Melt" Alyx, Dog gets up and tears out the little chest head thingy from the Cremator, killing it instantly.
Remember, you remember when you are a CP, when you are a Combine soldier you don't. So some CPs might have disclosed that information, plus it looks like rebels have taken their Armour and barney was also a CP so he would know.
CPs are still human
CPs are still human
Exactly, CPs are completely human. They're just humans who wanted better housing and food or they're complete dicks who just enjoy hitting citizens.
Exactly, CPs are complete human. They're just humans who wanted better housing and food or they're complete dicks who just enjoy hitting citizens.
Exactly what (I hoped) I was getting at.
Some CPs do take the Combine Surgery for better ranks, though.
Some CPs do take the Combine Surgery for better ranks, though.
I don't believe so. Though I have heard something about "memory replacement"...
I don't believe so. Though I have heard something about "memory replacement"...
second time you've breezed past what i've said a long time ago.
Reminder to all civil protection agents; memory replacement surgery is the first step towards gaining privileges

second time you've breezed past what i've said a long time ago.
I just searched all four pages of this thread. My post was the first time the word "memory" was even mentioned. :colbert:
here's a thought: what if the memory replacement means the headquipment? the brain is cut into several pieces, with them being added together to form a small brain, which is then relocated to the small vault-like area in the head, therefore minimizing the possibility of being killed by a headshot while still being able to rely upon that if the chestbrain is damaged, and vice versa. [editline]15th March 2011[/editline] i would imagine that the process is complex and expensive, so they probably figure that if someone is willing to have their memory replaced, they're probably the kind of person who is going to be unquestionably loyal to them, and therefore useful.
http://half-life.wikia.com/wiki/Consoling_Couple this this is what happened
I made that article! :toot:
wow congratulations that's cool [editline]16th March 2011[/editline] cremator kind of looks like he's wearing the head thing like a gas mask, which would explain the eye holes and heavy breathing. they could have just been making cremator shells in the factory for them to wear
While we're on the subject of Civil Protection: Civil Protection officers start out as normal Humans who simply want better accommodation/ration for themselves, or perhaps higher status over other people. At this point they have no modifications as Barney is still clearly Human. Overwatch encourages them to undergo more changes over time, promising better rewards in exchange. 'Family cohesion is preserved', indicating that failure to complete a mission could bring trouble to the family of an officer. Otherwise, completing a mission can be rewarded by 'non-mechanical reproductive simulation', which is up to speculation but is probably sexual in some way. It is only later that they are taken to a facility like Nova Prospekt to be transformed into a Overwatch Soldier, which is still very much Human but is cybernetically enhanced. It is the Elite that I'm curious about, does it still have two eyes or only one? Does it look Human now? We might not find out. The Cremator idea is pretty interesting. I love games like this, with so many mysteries.

Wow you guys can really go on and on and on and on and on about NOTHING, can't you?
Wow you guys can really go on and on and on and on and on about NOTHING, can't you?
No fun allowed!
This thread is pretty silly tbh. It's a huge irrational jump from "this body was lying here and then it was gone" to "this body was clearly burned up with a flamethrower by an NPC that was cut from the game after appearing in the leaked beta version of Half-Life and this is an easter egg appearance by that character" There are a whole bunch of other reasons why it is silly but that is the most important one
I would like to see the Cremator in the next Half-Life installment

At least it's a discussion without derailing and flaming. [editline]16th March 2011[/editline] Shit, I forgot you're not a mod anymore. :v:

One could also rationally assume that, from the given events that transpired and in the order in which they did so, that when Gordon and Alyx entered the deserted building the pack of Hunters arrived. once player had defeated them and had a chance to reexamine the surroundings they find that two bodies that had previously been strewn on the side of the road before had now vanished, leaving only a blood spatter. Now since they were dead, they could not relocate themselves on their own, obviously, so they must have been effected by some exterior event, and the only significant event that happened in the intervening moments while you were inside the garage that could have a logical impact on them is the arrival of the Hunters. with this in mind the only remaining evidence is the blood spatter left there by Valve, now they specifically had the trigger inside the building when the player had no line of sight on the bodies remove them, but the blood spatter mysteriously remains as if to suggest something. this is obviously an attempt by Valve to hint at something, and since the Hunters were the only ones that could have been involved it must mean that they did something to them. but this isn't enough, we need more. Throughout the game we witness other events that seem to suggest the Hunters sometimes have a deeper directive than simply beating people to death, specifically what they do with people in isolated incidents I.E. not in direct combat that are mysteriously kept, ambiguous. these events are where Alyx is stabbed by one and another where a Hunter drags away a helpless Rebel to his doom while White Forest is under siege. In the former, the Hunter now has it's prey in it's grasp and appears to want to do something further but then suddenly leaves, we then see an Antlion, the rest is history, now as to what we can draw from this is one of two things. one: the Hunter was recalled before it could do anything further, and two: the Hunter detected the approaching Antlions and decided to retreat before it was surrounded, seeing as the mine you were all standing above was an active Antlion hive. this gives us a probable cause to suspect something but what?. The latter we see, as I stated, a poor rebel being dragged under a blast door as it closes, now why would the Hunter have to drag his prey away if, as we all know, they have an flechette Gun mounted inside their bodies that could have easily dispatched the rebel, why would they need to keep the prey close if the directive was just to kill them?. the door closes afterward keeping the rebel's suggested end purposely left ambiguous, but why?. why would you need that ambiguity if it just kills him?. The only logical assumption is Valve is hinting at something, and as to what they were hinting at is very simple: Hunters eat People. And this is not they only evidence that the Combine non-Human Syths use humans for food, as it is also seen on many occasions the Advisers themselves sucking out human Brains for sustenance. THE UU (Universal Union, what Breen refers to them as and I personally call the non-human Combine Management) PLAN TO, AND ARE USING HUMANS FOR FOOD. This is now Canon. also overdue content is overdue damn hunters and their not being able to apply decals. :argh:
If it was to optimize then I think they would have removed the body from the watchtower earlier on the road also.
So "permanent offworld relocation" is like being sent to the slaughter house! It makes so much sense!
