Far away in the land of bad brushwork and texturing.
Where the hell was this?!
it's a largely missed watchtower about a bend before the outpost with the bodies.
Hell I only found it screwing around on one of my later play-throughs, it's really easy to miss.

Like everyone misses it.
I always see the tower in the distance but I never realised you could get to it.

beta island, anyone?
What do you mean?
This thread is pretty silly tbh. It's a huge irrational jump from "this body was lying here and then it was gone" to "this body was clearly burned up with a flamethrower by an NPC that was cut from the game after appearing in the leaked beta version of Half-Life and this is an easter egg appearance by that character"
There are a whole bunch of other reasons why it is silly but that is the most important one
They weren't going to use flamethrowers :colbert:
What do you mean?
Beta island was, as I recall, an island in the distance in a level of Goldeneye for the N64. You could get to it by noclipping. The level designers left it in for some reason; it was initially part of another level that got cut.
Also, it seems pretty dark that children are slaves creating Cremators in the Cremator factory.
If I were one of those kids, I'd grab a Cremator flame thrower thingeh and blast my way outta there
[editline]17th March 2011[/editline]
Alyx then jumps on the second Cremator's back, shoots its "Head" (The part at the top) and gets tossed off
Ugh

Yeah, because it's smart to try to grab a weapon that:
A. You don't know how to use (Yeah, mess up and you don't get another chance)
B. Is physically attached to the Cremator (It is believed that the pokeball like sphere was supposed to be attached to the weapon)
C. Is extremely dangerous (You think this shit was designed to be played with?!)
D. Is probably pretty heavy, maybe too heavy for a child to hold
You're an idiot if you really think an adult, let alone a kid could hope to use one.

THE UU (Universal Union, what Breen refers to them as and I personally call the non-human Combine Management) PLAN TO, AND ARE USING HUMANS FOR FOOD.
If thats true, why don't they allow people to breed? More humans = more food.

crush their will, reduce their numbers to manageable levels, then selective breeding.
Breen did say they would remove the suppression field, eventually.

It would just take to many resources to just "Grow" more humans, they eat humans probably because its CHEAP and EASY food/energy.
If it was to optimize then I think they would have removed the body from the watchtower earlier on the road also.

Was that in a pivital battle scene with shit loads of guys?
Nope, no need for optimisation.

Reminds me of the remains of the New Jersey level in THUG2, which you could get to by glitching through the wall of the practice level.

Quote from the man who answers your question:
Let me read a letter I recently received. "Dear Dr. Breen. Why has the Combine seen fit to suppress our reproductive cycle? Sincerely, A Concerned Citizen.
Thank you for writing, Concerned. Of course your question touches on one of the basic biological impulses, with all its associated hopes and fears for the future of the species. I also detect some unspoken questions. Do our benefactors really know what's best for us? What gives them the right to make this kind of decision for mankind? Will they ever deactivate the suppression field and let us breed again?
Allow me to address the anxieties underlying your concerns, rather than try to answer every possible question you might have left unvoiced. First, let us consider the fact that for the first time ever, as a species, immortality is in our reach. This simple fact has far-reaching implications. It requires radical rethinking and revision of our genetic imperatives. It also requires planning and forethought that run in direct opposition to our neural pre-sets.
I find it helpful at times like these to remind myself that our true enemy is Instinct. Instinct was our mother when we were an infant species. Instinct coddled us and kept us safe in those hardscrabble years when we hardened our sticks and cooked our first meals above a meager fire and started at the shadows that leapt upon the cavern's walls. But inseparable from Instinct is its dark twin, Superstition. Instinct is inextricably bound to unreasoning impulses, and today we clearly see its true nature. Instinct has just become aware of its irrelevance, and like a cornered beast, it will not go down without a bloody fight. Instinct would inflict a fatal injury on our species. Instinct creates its own oppressors, and bids us rise up against them. Instinct tells us that the unknown is a threat, rather than an opportunity. Instinct slyly and covertly compels us away from change and progress. Instinct, therefore, must be expunged. It must be fought tooth and nail, beginning with the basest of human urges: The urge to reproduce.
We should thank our benefactors for giving us respite from this overpowering force. They have thrown a switch and exorcised our demons in a single stroke. They have given us the strength we never could have summoned to overcome this compulsion. They have given us purpose. They have turned our eyes toward the stars.
Let me assure you that the suppressing field will be shut off on the day that we have mastered ourselves...the day we can prove we no longer need it. And that day of transformation, I have it on good authority, is close at hand.
Most likely to reduce morale, and ensure that the current generation is the last- from which the most loyal Citizens (Or more likely, Civil Protection officers) are allowed to reproduce, perhaps?
By the way, I remembered that the Beta Strider was equipped with an immolator like the Cremator. Once you killed it, you got the immolator for the first time. It was most likely recycled into the Strider's warp cannon.

It's implied that the Combine soldiers there were burning the bodies.
notice the scar on the chest
the brain is in the chest cavity, with the head being a steel mold, fitting the helmet's shape, holding electronic equipment.
this is why the zombine heads are gnawed down almost to the collarbone, due to the fact that, because headcrabs probably pull the cerebellum strings to trigger movement (which is why the movement is jerky), they are simply trying to get as close to the brain as possible, for the best reception.
i can also see some kind of pinkish wound at the upper left of the skull, so that might be where they operated.
You seriously sound like you're making shit up and don't know what you're talking about. Firstly there's nothing that implies whatsoever that their brain is in the chest, all we know is that they undergo some sort of surgery. The scar on the chest could simply be that they opened them up to remove unneccesary organs like lungs or the heart since they are not needed anymore. The soldier has 2 holes on the sides of his head, this could imply that they did brain surgery to either remove memories or have the helmet integrate into the brain in some form. Again, there's absolutly no basis for you saying brains are in the chest..besides that's just stupid.
Also on your Zombine theory, I'm pretty sure the reason their movement is jagged and such is because they're PART MACHINE and not fully human, so the headcrab doesn't have a nice fresh nervous system to take control of, it's not that hard to figure out man.
something i noticed:
they obviously wear the thick overcoat as protection from the acid, but it is shown in this video to be so strong that it actually causes splash damage, so thing in the stomach is possibly a shield generator for protection, due to the massive power of the incinerator, with the overcoat being an emergency backup?
or possibly just for protection from outside sources. if the shield is actually being used to deflect something other than acid, that just means things have gotten so bad that people are starting to rebel.
which means a lot of bodies to clean up.
Now here you're being extra ridiculous. Since in the concept art the Immolator has a tube coming out the back, it more likely connects to the "pokeball" (which would actually be his stomach), in this way it uses stomach acid as its form of ammunition for the immolator. This makes 1000x more sense than the nonsense you just spilled out.
I find it funny that everyone is assuming the cremator uses a fire based weapon when, in fact, it is a weapon that fires an acidic compound that disintegrates things, not burns them.
check the overwiki if you don't believe me
Why is it called a cremator then
"Cremator" comes from the Latin word "cremare" which means to engulf in flames.

But if you use the immolator in the hl2 beta it actually isn't a flamethrower.

Spray hose and Dissolving. It's acid, not fire.
Has anybody emailed Gabe with a question about the missing bodies?
All of the names related to the cremator are fire related yet it sprayed acid.
:psyduck:.
