Keep it because I'm keeping it and I don't want to feel alone.
You are not alone friend.
Does ShitcuROM really install rootkits?
None in any way what so ever, or so I hear.
Piracy is getting a bit out of hand now. Most PC games are pirated out right, weather or not they have DRM people are still going to pirate it.
Steam is a good shot at anti-piracy, but even that's been cracked. This is why developers are swapping to consoles, more money less piracy.
Some good cracks for games for the Xbox 360 can be played online, wheres no new game for the PC I know can be played online while cracked, so it really is the console community, and not the anti-piracy software that stops the games from being mass pirated.
I dont care tbh i pre-ordered it, i enjoyed the first one immensly and will enjoy this one very much as well
I already have a GFWL account so I don't mind.
The funny thing is that pirates won't have to deal with any of that shit
They put DRM in because they want to make money and you can't make money if people pirate the game.
I'm gonna play the bullshit card on this one.
Spore actually made a fair amount of profit.
TBH DRM is like cigarette advertising.
The Fag advertisement bans had no affect on fag sales. (yes over here in blightey we have several different words for cigarette fag, ciggy, smoke, light, dog... the list goes on)
The practical upshot of which was they didn't spend millions on advertising and thus made MORE money despite the advertising ban.
Companies fork out Millions just to use DRM so if they didn't use DRM in the first place the piracy rates would be the same but they would make more of a profit because they can cut several million out of expenses thus giving them a buffer against potential sales lost by piracy.
One DRM i won't mind is a simple code hidden in the disk that the game reads before it loads. Rahter like FADE. This has virtual scratches in the disk that the DRM, which is part of the game and not an independent program, looks for. If the scratches are missing (I.E there is not disk/the disk copy program repaired them._ The DRM allows you to play for some time while slowly degrading the quality of the game. It does this be removing features. Purposely casing lag and FPS drops, and removing textures and other content eventually rendering the game unplayable. This gives the user a small amount of time with full access to the game (rather like a timed demo) and has no outside presence on you PC. (As far as i know)
The issue is that if you lose the disk/ it gets damaged you are knackered but then again that's the case most of the time anyway.

Fair point.
Here's some interesting facts:
The Steam version will use SecuROM, just like the retail one. Source 1, Source 2. Maybe OP should update the post that started this thread.
GfWL is mandatory on all versions. If you happen to live in the 166 countries and teritorries not supported by GfWL, no online GfWL features for you. Source.
GfWL has an activation limit set to 15. People who reach this limit have to call Microsoft to ask for another activation. Microsoft will refuse to help you if you live in one on the 166 countries and teritorries where GfWL is not supported.
2K has already stated it's too late for them to remove GfWL from the game.
When asked about SecuROM in the Steam version, the 2K community manager offered an idiotic answer:
For those of you wondering about Steam, I have your answer. There are two different systems: Steam digital distribution system and Steamworks DRM. We're not using Steamworks DRM.
And another one:

I keep seeing people bring up Steamworks as an alternative to various DRM schemes. Is it understood that Steam, JUST Steam, NOT Steamworks, provides the same layer of DRM protection as SecuROM? Steamworks provides analogous functionality to GFWL for achievements and matchmaking. Steam by itself provides date control and executable verification. Once again I have to ask what SecuROM is providing that Steam already is not. Even without Steamworks.
Steam is the method of digital distribution for us.
Bioshock 2 for PC. Situation normal: All fucked up.
Community manager is dumb. Almost no game use "Steamworks drm" but most of them use steam drm
