Oh god I just remembered, GTAIV on Steam had it worse, it had Rockstar Social Club, Steam and GFWL (Which even to this day, is unstable like no bitch, I tried logging onto it a few hours ago, it flat out refused me. I came back 2 minutes later and it worked fine.)
That game was an awful awful port.
How stupid can they be? Do they not realize that people pirate PC games more than consoles because it's faster and easier? What happens when you stop making PC games? When it's clogged full of DRM that doesn't even do anything to pirates? What if the PC gaming market is completely destroyed? They go right to your fucking gem of a console because now they have no other choice. When will they realize they will always lose?
I am not going to buy Bioshock 2 at all. I don't own any console, and I never really liked the rapture setting, and now with all this DRM bull I might as well just pass
I am not going to buy Bioshock 2 at all. I don't own any console, and I never really liked the rapture setting, and now with all this DRM bull I might as well just pass
I like the setting, but the game was too simple for me, really. Should have at least been scary.
My computer can't run that game so I'm better off playing it on the console.
They really need to make an entirely new version of GFWL. And while they're at it, maybe an instant messaging function would be a good addition...
Bioshock 2: Sea of DRMs because the thread title pun wasn't bad enough
If we add lots of intrusive DRM maybe people will actually buy it instead of downloading it. :downs:
Bioshock was the same and then they released a patch that removes the limits and shit.
Fuck that, I'm not buying it now.
Fuck that, I'm not buying it now.
That. I was so pumped about it, lol. Really, gamers should give them a lesson, and boycot it on all systems. We're the honest customers who pay these companies to give us playable games we then own, not to fill up our drives with poorly coded, cracked and dangerous DRM software and deny us the right of installing the game we bought. WE have to do something before they get the hang of it or else they will put out even more complicated shit that gets cracked and punish the people who were just beeing honest, the people who bought it!
This pretty much sums up all my feelings regarding the whole DRM debacle. Now I'm not saying pirate it, but I am saying, buy the game, then install the inevitable readily available no cd crack to avoid using up any activations. Everybody wins.
*Insert warez talk* Do-watch-u-want-cause-a-pirate-is-free, You Are A Pirate!
And that's why I am not going to buy the game.
Sadly, according to most EULA's nowadays(ya know, those things no one reads) you may buy the game, but you don't own it. You simply own the license to play the game. I really don't know the specifics on the whole thing, but that's the idea in a nutshell
Yeah, but I always have thought and will continue to think of my bought games as my own property just like buying hardware and drinks for example. And not as some license shit.
And :10bux: says that complete (or at least SP) crack will be ready a within a week after the release or sooner.
I'm gonna write them an angry letter.
I'm gonna write them an angry letter.
It will be totally ignored

Sounds like steam is DRM free luckily, GFWL is annoying though. Never had any real issues with it personally so I'll still get Bioshock 2 off steam, the free Bioshock pre-order pack is enticing. Honestly though Steam is just a better version of GFWL in every way, they should have taken it to the next step and removed that for the steam version when they did the same for the DRM. Also, can we get an edit OP stating the steam version is DRM free? Three posts above me looks to have blown a blood vessel from raging after reading OP and instantly responding instead of looking through posts.
http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/showpost.php?p=597096&postcount=1 Dunno if already posted.
Just as I thought. FP overreacted.
Oh shit. My email. Whoops.
What in the fuck? Screw that shit, time to dust off the ps3.
What is happening to PC game industry? God damn it.
What is happening to PC game industry? God damn it.
I think you mean what has happened
Let me Put it this way. DRMs initial use was never to stop pirates. They knew it would never work, pirates are just too good. Let me tell you why DRM is in place. Go to any Shop that sells video games and go to the second hand section. Count all the PC games you see there. How many of them are from after 2005? That's right... Apparently big companies thought it was unfair that a user could take a game back to the shop and sell if for a small refund. They also didn't like the idea that another user could come along, buy the game at a discounted price and none of that would go to them. So they came up with a system that essentially locks the game to the ser that bought it and destroys it if he attempts to unlock it. The second hand PC gaming marked has all but been obliterated. And it's all thanks to DRM. While I'm at it DRM is barely legal anyway. First off it installs itself without the users prior knowledge or permission. Second off it actually does impact system performance (granted only a little bit but it's still and impact.) Third is the infamous rootkit. These rootkits disguse the fact that there is a DRM doing it's dirty work in the system. They hide outside the OS and bypass normal means of detection. Now by my accounts this is grounds for Malware which as you know is complelty illegal to install on someone else's computer. But as usual the companies lawyers made up some bullshit excuse about how it's protecting their rights and their assets. It has been said that 2010 is th year that human rights are thrown away in favour of big companied "protecting themselves" and all the avid music listeners i talked to at my school don't seem to care. "But the band would rather you downloaded the song and saw them live!" Yes, i say, but it's not the band that's going to impose these laws now it it? It's the record label. They will stop at nothing to make sure you pay for every copy of that music you have. even if you buy the CD and download the songs they will be up in arms about it. they want you to buy it twice. The seem to think this is stupid and that because I'm not as into music as they are i cannot have a say in how it's run. Sometimes I think my friends were dropped in the floor at birth. Anyway, the point is that DRM's like this compromise our fundamental human rights of freedom. You may say "if you've done nothing wrong you have nothing to hide!" That's fine but why should we allow people to poke their heads in with cameras at everything we do? IT'S THE PRINCIPLE GODDMANIT!
I bought it anyway. I loved the first game enough to get this, regardless of all the shitty security precautions.
