This happened last time there was an update too. The game isn't broken, the part of DSFix that actively modifies the game's files as you play is.

EDIT: Apparently it still works with the intro videos disabled, but turn the option off just to be sure if it still isn't working.

I'm decent at dodging, but the shitty as fuck armor rating of dergon skin means i'll die in pretty much one hit by anything late game, and all the dergon attacks have pretty low damage too, I don't really think I could get very far with it.

Especially if you can still dual wield giant two handed swords and hammers if you're stronk enough.

Knight is a beginner-friendly class. You can take hits, but can't dish out too much damage. Warrior is pretty good too.
