but dodging bosses is important?
Oh man, I love this poison/toxic death animation so much. You don't see it everyday, that's making it awesome.

Pretty much, you don't have enough health to take hits or enough stamina for shrug off blows with a shield too often. So it boils down timing dodges so you can abuse the I-frames.

Just telling him to dodge is awfully vague though. You might as well tell him to just "beat the game."
Its all dodging bosses, elemental weapons really help with the damage. So if you get good at using invulnerable frames you can sl 1 run easy. No guides necessary.
Okay.
dgrayed uploaded a video on youtube where he explains how to make weapons do 100% curse, shit.
R.I.P. Dark Souls PC. :v:
Now I'm going to give myself 99 purging stones or find out how to give myself infinite curse resistance.
To be honest, I wouldn't even say dodging is that important. Going through the levels was just like usual (with heavy use of my shield), just slightly harder. Even most bosses don't require much rolling, because your shield is still effective.
lol and how is that not super vague?
To compare, I might say something like this:
If you're having trouble with Sif, the timing on his attacks make him easy to dodge. His attacks happen very quickly and they have obvious wind-ups, as soon as you see the actual swing start, that's a good time to dodge. The timing works out so you will make use of your invincibility frames if you dodge right at the start. If you're worried about his double swing you can actually block the first attack with a +10 balder shield and then immediately roll to dodge the second swing. The first hit won't stun you or impede your progress forward.
Describing how to do it in words hardly measures up to a video guide. I'd say a guide wins by default.
No no, you're practically beating the game for the guy!
Yea, dark souls is one of those games you shouldn't use a guide for. Give yourself a damn challenge.
For many players doing an SL1 run is a challenge too steep but they still want to do it, a guide can serve to flatten it out while still improving their personal skill. Now if you want to talk about how you shouldn't use a guide because if you aren't good enough to do it without help then you shouldn't do it at all that's fine, we can talk about that. Your initial point was that for a player who thinks doing an SL1 run is "crazy" that telling him "get good at using invulnerable frames" and if you do that "no guides [are] necessary". My point is that's far too vague for a player who is afraid to even approach an SL1 run.

It should be obvious to anybody that has ever played the game that having low mounts of health should mean that they would want to be hit as little as possible.
Watching a guide was one of the worst mistakes I've ever made playing Dark Souls. I've never adventured into Blighttown, and every build I make is nearly a mirror image of the first one that I made which followed the guide's suggestions. I don't feel like I've gotten too much better at the game since my first playthrough, and it's because I didn't do things on my own, I didn't learn things on my own. It was like watching a movie, I never explored and I never did anything "crazy" at the start. I was pulled down a gentle river, and it sucked.
Players should find out on their own which weapons will suit the situation, not follow what somebody says is a good idea on YouTube. It's Dark Souls, it's about trial and error, it's about dieing a ton until you realize what you were doing was stupid.

My guide isn't designed for new players and I'd highly discourage new players from watching. In fact my dad just started playing and is watching my guide and I keep berating him for doing so. The first playthrough of a Souls game should always be blind.
I think an SL1 run guide is perfectly fine since those who are doing it have usually worn thin the wonder of discovery already and want to try something new. I'm having a lot of fun following foogoo's guide and that's the point of the game - to enjoy yourself.

I want that sword
I want that sword
Go join the gravelords, nets you the sword right there and then once you join.
Looking at all the dumbs my posts got on this page I'm surprised to see how negatively the general facepunch DS community thinks of guides.
It's probably more to do with the arrogance with which you represented guides, relating to your specific guide, aided by the fact that you said "confirmed hater" where it didn't seem warranted, but I only really skimmed through most of the page.

Its a pretty good twink weapon. Low scaling but high base.
yeah it has a scaling of E
only good for lower levels
I heard elemental weapons are OP so +15 Normal Claymore here I come
I heard elemental weapons are OP so +15 Normal Claymore here I come
With high str/dex they level out to elementals almost, thing is with normal is that you can enchant it.
I heard elemental weapons are OP so +15 Normal Claymore here I come
+15 weapons with either 40 dex/str (or 27 str 40 dex or whatever) out damage elemental weapons.
+15 weapons with either 40 dex/str (or 27 str 40 dex or whatever) out damage elemental weapons.
I knew they scaled, but I probaly won't have 40 in any stat for a while.
What's more annoying is losing my firelink bonfire.
Holy crap, now I see why it recommends a controller for this game.
My god that mouse+keyboard.
