Fuck. Joined Forest Hunter then kicked Shiva's bodyguard off the edge and in the process accidentally hit him with my sword, and then made a hasty rush to the bonfire once the NPCs all started attacking me. Went down and beat the gaping dragon so I could get enough souls to absolve, then died trying to find the Blight Town bonfire and died a second time, losing all those souls. After that I made a few farming runs of the church and the area between the Depths and Firelink, then absolved at Oswald. Went back to Darkroot and they're all still hostile. IDGI. Guessing I need to take the ring off then put it back on before they'll be friendly again?

have fun with manus my strategy with artorias was just to avoid everything until he either powers up or does his triple jump. beat him up either way.

You can do a ↑+R2 attack after you dodge one of his attacks. Usually guaranteed hit and it gives you enough time to get ready for more attacks. He goes down really quickly that way.

oh by the way it's worth pointing out that catarina boots + wolf ring = 53 poise, so if you wear those boots you can wear whatever the fuck you want and you'll have enough poise

BSS is better. Better moveset, not quite as good of DEX scaling. Best if elemental. Raw damage is...I don't know. The scaling is vaguely improved but the durability is hilariously shit. Make it to get the achievement and then never use it.
