how do you use titanite chunks?
You use them to upgrade weapons past Normal +10.
Questions for you folks, christmas noob here (I wanted to play the game because the story was really interesting, but I'm totally afraid of being awful at it, so I got it on sale)
Is there any way to backstab with dexterity-based weapons? I'm starting out with a wanderer class and I keep trying to backstab enemies and can't seem to pull it off. I'm using a mouse after basically saying "fuck it" with the controller I have.
Also I really hope there's a way to turn off automatically switching targets because I died at least twice to that shit when I'm getting surrounded by a bunch of enemies and it just switches in its own with no provocation.
You have to get close to them, be directly facing their back, and you can't be blocking.
1.08 patch notes
I first looked and only saw the second line and I was about to kick something, then I read the rest and died laughing, beautiful :v:
Damn. The hydra was like the final boss to me at first because I could never get near enough to actually hit it. Then I gave up and decided to actually play the game, went through blighttown, sen's fortress and anor londo. And when I came back swag as shit, I kicked the hydras ass, it was so glorious I almost expected the credits to start rolling.
Finally got to New Londo Ruins and accidentally fell into the water, tried to go back and retrieve my souls but I forgot to look for a bon fire and the ogres said no...
30k souls down the drain :(
Is there somewhere I should go before hitting Sen's Fortress? The enemies aren't exactly hard, but they do put up a bit of a struggle, especially with all the traps around. Maybe I'm missing an area?
Nope, sen's is next. just go slow. And remember you can backstab the snakes.

That's what I've been doing for most of the game, I'm building a backstabbing build with an upgraded rapier for bonus crit damage.
I'm not having any real problems with Blightown, explored all of it now, but fuck queerfag, I can't do a thing to her. Thinking about using this key I got to go back through New Londo instead of the Depths to cash in this firekeeper soul and upgrade weapons and shit, a couple of questions though:
Is the falchion a direct upgrade from my scimitar? I've got +8 on my scimitar, so much love. Also gonna upgrade this Uchi, and hopefully my shield too.
Also, was I supposed to do something with the giant leech/facehugger thing? Because I went up behind it once and tried to attack it but nothing happened and then I fell through it and then it 1 hit me and then I noped and stayed away from it.
Be careful about how you build your guy, you will not always have a way to crit bosses and will have to duke it out with them normally. Getting a spell buff or something of that manner can help with dex weapons general low damage and high attack speed.

For Queelag just summon Maneater Mildred, equip a two-handed weapon, and circle around to the back of the boss and spam R2 attacks. She moves and attacks slowly, and as long as you have Mildred fighting with you the boss will pay attention to Mildred only, letting you get off without damage. Just make sure to back up when she does that AoE spell around her.

Yeah, I'm also putting points into Faith so I can use miracles later on in the game. Probably going to end at 30 Faith for Darkmoon/Sunlight blade.

who needs miracles when you got a dragon king greataxe +15?

People who want fast weapons so they don't get back stabbed when you miss your attack on an invader. :downs:

dude no kidding
my main pvp lately has been using a greataxe, and goddamn it's hard to not get backstabbed.

Really? I have only been backstabbed once and that was by Jordz who was using a Zweihander. I didn't even die :v:
On top of that, I'm a Forest Hunter. I invade people. It isn't hard, especially when I use Havel's and can Midroll as opposed to Fatroll.
After playing this game for a few hours straight, when coming back from a drink I decided to roll to move faster. Bad idea, more of a falling tumble than a roll, and now my back hurts :v: thanks dark souls!
Is there any way to get the flippy ring without killing the dude that has it?
I'm fairly sure you can buy it from Shiva of the East in Blighttown. You'll have to be a forest hunter, though, so might as well just kill Shiva's guard after joining anyway.
also, it's very rewarding to help people out in Anor Londo, and a neat ~30k souls each time

As far as I'm aware, he just sells the ring that reduces Durability loss on weapons.
Any tips for a new thief?

The only way to get the flip ring is to kill the body guard, but there are some easy ways such as killing the guard in blight town, he's already in a corner and plus he has like zero poise just smack him down and if you don't feel like killing shiva he won't aggro to the fight at the start he will in afew seconds after you hit the guard and you can always just homeward bone out after killing the ninja and ask for absolution from Oswald.
Any tips for a new thief?
if you are completely new to the game, I would recommend a different starting class.
I am new to the game, i already played for a bit though on my thief just not sure what kinda stats are important and weapons, im currently using a bandit dagger/shield.

Resistance is never important ever so don't even touch it, and Endurance and Vitality are your health and stamina so they are always important
whether you level strength or dexterity depends on what kind of weapons you prefer to use
theif is a really tough class to start out as, you might want to start again as Warrior or Knight or Pyromancer
Anyone have any tips for dealing with the lock-on target system?
If there is more than one enemy coming at me I always run the risk of accidentally targeting the wrong one (or one that's completely out of the fight) and getting sliced to ribbons. I may have been panicking, but it once switched back and forth from the same 2 enemies about 8 consecutive times while they slowly crept up and wailed on me.

I found it really fun to start off as a thief, no matter how many times I have almost broke something :v: really fun to learn the game the hard way instead of wearing heavy armour and having a shield.
I give up on PvP in this game.
Too many twinks, scumbags, and laggy motherfuckers.
Back to SL1 Runs and boss challenges!
Ok whats the easiest way to farm the ghosts down there... I hate buying this thing for 4000 souls just to kill some ghosts... I simply want that jagged ghost blade.

You're going to want at least 1 humanity in your counter in the top left. 10 is recommended for intense farming, but 1 is the most important.
Second, you're going to need the Covetous Gold Serpent ring. This can be found in Sen's Fortress.
The ghosts drop transient curses, and there are some in an urn near the start of New Londo.
I got invaded for the first time in the depths during my first playthrough, against a guy who looked like he had some fancy stuff (armor of thorns i think?) while all i had was some balder armor, i backstabbed him but then i got cursed by those huge eye dudes. i thought the stuff they were spewing was poison so i didn't pay it any attention, and now im in the new londo ruins trying to find the healer dude while getting demolished by ghosts. damn you, armor of thorns dude.
Were the Black Knights human before Gywn linked the fire?
