What if there's no bridge or cliff?
[editline]3rd January 2013[/editline]
There are trainers people use when invading others, I've messaged people who invaded me and they claim to be using "Dark Souls: PREPARE TO DIE (+22 TRAINER) [FLING]".
Make a ledge.

The trainers make them immune to player damage but environment damage still works, so it doesn't even have to be an instakill cliff, just a suitably large drop.
Looks tedious as hell but guess that works.
Patience is a virtue.

Or be a whiny bitch and DC instead.
[editline]3rd January 2013[/editline]
Or just don't go human.
[editline]3rd January 2013[/editline]
Or stop playing on "glorious pc master race" where every third person is hacking.
I usually just book it once I realize they're using a hack.
They usually give up after 5 minutes of running.
tl;dr I'm incapable of dealing with valid tactics and so instead will be a faggot because lol I can.
Stop going human then. Problem solved.
NEWS FLASH: there's no reason for them to be 'honorable'. If you want honor duels, go to the arena and get your ass kicked there instead. Or stop being a whiny bitch and learn to play instead.
[editline]3rd January 2013[/editline]
Instead of rating me dumb, please provide a counter-point.
Hint: you can't and I'm right.
I have learned to deal with it. It's called DC'ing.
I'm not looking for honorable duels. I'm just looking to not get invaded by people who are just trolling with builds impossible to get early game via NG+, via inventory hacks, or by not leveling while playing through the game.
If I see someone invade me and he's not actually using troll builds that really isn't normally possible to get at my level range or area I'm in, then I won't DC. Exploiting the game system to get high end items at a low level purely for the purposes of mass-invading low level players because you are bored with the game and/or aren't skilled enough to actually invade people the way the game intended isn't something I consider a tactic that is valid enough for me to bother dealing with your invasion while I'm playing through the game. So I'll just DC
Are there hackers? Yes. That doesn't make every single player that avoids your flailing attacks a hacker. In all honesty, the hacking problem is overblown. People twink items, and that's annoying. But finding somebody with full-on god mode is a rare thing, and most of the time it's people tired of being invaded, not an invader that does it. Although all this doesn't matter if you don't go human and avoid the multiplayer aspect altogether. You may have to go human for some things, such as triggering an NPC invasion or something similar, but you will lose that human status. That's just how the game works. You will die somehow, whether you roll off a cliff or a guy with a +5 Lightning Shotel invades you. If it makes you angry, just don't go human again.

Your "exploiting the game system" is another man's challenge run. A SL1 character is not something you do because you aren't skilled at the game.
"Exploiting the game to get items early or by not leveling up"?
So now sl1 playthroughs are exploits?
You, sir, are a moron.

but that person had to play through the whole game at a low level to get your fabled 'high end items'
ontop of the fact there is no intended way to invade people, the point is to kill the host of the world
I beat Four Kings at SL1. What can I say, I'm terrible at the game.
Tried out PVP for the first time, after 5 minutes of awkwardly circling eachother I've decided it's not for me - I'll stick to getting invaded.
Also, "not skilled enough to invade normally"?
Please explain a 'normal invasion'.
[editline]3rd January 2013[/editline]
I beat Gwyn at sl1, guess I'm a hacking faggot.

You get invaded, you both bow, and then you beat each other to a pulp with +5 longswords.
what difference does it make if you get killed by someone else or the game alone, if you put up a good fight then it's fine
take yo' lumps, bitch
"Exploiting the game to get items early or by not leveling up"?

No
But when you do a sl1 playthrough for the express purpose of getting uber gear so you can cheese low level players, how can you honestly say that is a valid tactic and yet DC'ing against such people who want to cheese is not
Lmao
"I take advantage of the game system to rape low level players on purpose in low level areas, but the guy who I invaded DC'd bawww :'("
Sorry I ruined your fun?
Should I gimp my own combat ability to make it fair? Perhaps I should just invade you and just jump off a cliff instantly to save you the trouble of fighting me?
[editline]3rd January 2013[/editline]
What's invalid about it? I played through the game and earned all my gear legitimately.

Oh hey you're doing a Darkwraith RP build too? I just finished mine the other day
Sitting in a high-traffic PvP area with 2 summons is an asshole thing to do, but you run the risk of running in to those people when you invade. When you go human to get a summon for a boss/whatever, you run the risk of a dickwraith showing up. Not that it matters once you get to Anor Londo anyway. At that point you'll have everything they have, and you don't ever have to go human before that point.
It's a risk, but it is by no means a necessary risk. If you chose to take the risk, don't bitch when you get burned.
I partially agree with KorJax_alt.
When some new player runs around Undead Parish with basic gear like Knight set with a claymore (prior to advancing anywhere further than the bell gargoyles) and gets invaded by some guy with a +5 lightning katana is clearly unfair. The host only has access to starter weapons and armor, his upgrade limit is +5 on everything he has. The invader obviosly has a way bigger progress because he has access to Anor Londo's Giant Blacksmith and thus has a superior advantage over the host. Additionally their upgrade limit is at least +10 on every gear not to mention lightning/boss ascensions. That sort of invasion is unfair.
But yeah if you're already expirienced in the game and have access to the same gear/build the invader uses then it's your fault.
I have one too :v
Oh hey you're doing a Darkwraith RP build too? I just finished mine the other day
Technically that was my SL1. I killed the Four Kings today at SL1 and then upped my stats to the minimum to wield the Dark Sword. I am the dickwraith Undead Parish deserves.
I didn't even make it lightning, I'm such a nice guy to be killed by.

This is true, but there is zero reason to run around undead parish/burg in human form in the first place.

There is a lot of new people that want to summon phantoms for gargoyles or capra, that is enough reason for them.
There is a lot of new people that want to summon phantoms for gargoyles, that is enough reason for them.
Which requires 90 seconds or so of total time in human form. Most of the people I invade in burg haven't even killed the tower knight.
And what better time for them to learn the risks?

I'm sorry theres clearly a difference between having uber gear and just being really good at playing the game.
I'm not saying that people who get good gear low level are invalid, but its clear theres a community of people who go into the game with uber gear for the express purpose of trolling low level players, with gear that is not obtainable by normal means at this point.
You can say it's "valid" all you want, but it's the same thing as a player in a big MMO exploiting a certain loop/sequence of events to get infinite gold or X powerful items (such as what happened in EvE with goonswarm essentually crashing the economy with a loyalty system that was introduced). In such games, developers view this as an exploit and typically ban players or remove the exploit benefiting said player.
It's an exploit to get around the soul level restrictions for invasions, a system that is in the game that is normally designed to prevent uber players from completely destroying players at lower soul levels.
This isn't an MMO so nobody's gonna ban or stop you, but its totally stupid to say that people should just "deal w/ it" instead of DC'ing when they run into such players. If you're going to get around a system built into the game to prevent trolling on low level players, then I'm going to get around the invasion system by disconnecting. It's no more unfair than what you are doing.
And what better time for them to learn the risks?
There's a difference between learning the risks and getting completely trashed by them. If unblockable/instagibbing weapons is what they are going to expect from an invader DC is the only way they are going to defend themselves.
FUCKING CAPRA DEMON
oh god damn it you monstrous fuck
I was on some stairs in New Londo and I got hit with that grab attack by a ghost that was lower than me. I clipped through the floor and now I'm stuck under these stairs. Welp. :v:
I'm only here for the Cursebite Ring anyway, fuck.
"valid", exploit, unfair
invasions are not always going to be "fair", it's a fact of life in this game
unless you're too much of a coward to even try, because it is possible to win, then I suggest you do just "deal with it", because that's the only way to make progress. if you don't want to take every opportunity you can to hone your skills against other actual players, then that's your problem, and you'll never get better
That awkward moment were you have your Dragon Slayer Bow out at the platforms above the door to the Painted Word, you see your target summon a phantom, and he takes out his own Dragon Slayer Bow, he has full Havel and your wearing your Formal Clothes as a Darkwraith.
