Is the Ornstein Set worth getting for a light build?
I know that buffed smalls is harder than biggy.

Eh only for cosmetics, you can't upgrade the armor.

It's still pretty good despite no upgrading
It'll do you better than most (if not all) light armor in the game with higher resistences/poise as well, but obviously upgraded heavier armors or upgraded elite knight stuff (for example) will likely beat it out by a smallish margin

It depends on what kind of player you are.
Personally, I might use the chest or legs in another armor combo, because I really don't care about stats besides poise at this point (as I rarely get hit to begin with).
Chances are you aren't as reckless though. It's a decent set that can't be upgraded but has alright defense and resistances. What are you using now?

Right now I'm using a thief/shadow armor mix. I'm also using the DWGR.
I know that the DWGR wont be used if I do get Ornsteins armor, too.
Ornstein's set is pretty great for light armor characters but be prepared for it to clip with LITERALLY EVERYTHING YOU COULD WEAR WITH IT, which is kind of upsetting because the armor itself is boss as hell.
Also, what is the best thing I should do for 0&S?
I'm using a +4 Quelaag Furysword and a grass crest shield/spider/that one shield that oscar drops
I can probably summon Solaire if I get a humanity, but I'm probably gonna need health.
I was happily playing the bit just before the second boss when some guy invades my world clad in ridiculous armor and a massive sword who then not only kills me in a single blow, but curses me too. I wasn't even aware that was possible this early on. Now I'm being struck down by even the weaker enemies because I have half health and no way to summon allies or remove this curse. Fuck.
Also I roll around like an old man with brittle-bone disease now.

Buy a cursebite stone from the guy in the chapel after the gargoyles.
does anybody know what counts as the boss for the darkroot basin? is it the moonlight butterfly?
the basin right? not the garden?
does anyone else know then
the basin right? not the garden?
Right. If you were to get summoned at the Hydra, you would have to kill the Moonlight Butterfly to get sent back to your world.
The bridge above the ladder where the Hydra is would be blocked off, and so would the door next to the hidden bonfire in the Darkroot Garden.
oh, wait... not sure about the basin, i was talking about the garden whoops. it probably shares with the moonlight butterfly as well since the hydra is considered a mini boss. :v
Darkroot Basin boss = Butterfly.
Darkroot Garden Boss = Sif.
sif is the boss of the darkroot forest though?
[editline]21st January 2013[/editline]
man what the fuck there's an odd number of bosses for an even number of areas
sif is the boss of the darkroot forest though?
The forest is Darkroot Garden, everything before the door is Darkroot Basin. The Moonlight Butterfly is the boss for Darkroot Basin.
well that's weird because it always said "Darkroot Garden" as I walk into the area from Blacksmith Andrei's place
well that's weird because it always said "Darkroot Garden" as I walk into the area from Blacksmith Andrei's place
Yeah, it says Darkroot Garden when you're above the lake, but I'm pretty sure the Moonlight Butterfly counts as the boss for the basin. It's the only boss you can reach from the basin when you're a phantom.
Unless you have a good shields with stability and the ability to roll
He was easy for me using a +5 silver knight shield. Enough stability to last through his attacks with a depleted bar (next attack, if there was one, would break my guard, but there never was), and light enough that I can roll out of the way on his other attacks (like the overhead swing)
Of course I could only get one or two attacks in before he jumped away or made another attack but thats okay.
Real men wait until all 4 spawn and then use only starting gear.

but it says "rest at bonfire" right there
Oh my god Dark Souls in Australia is 70$ ARGH.
Anyway I can use a VPN or something to buy it for cheap or someone have that coupon thing on steam?
[editline]21st January 2013[/editline]
Wait, if I buy it from GFWL, does it give me a steam code or am I being too hopeful?

Well, it's $40 on Amazon and that gives you a Steam key. Just set your address to somewhere in the US.
Welp just beat the game. What an underwhelming ending.
I'm loving the fact that I can anti-twink now though. Already gotten tons of invasion attempts. I was stupid though when I kept my wolf ring on - confused as to why all my pursuers were warping out as soon as they warped in despite me using starting gear :v: Then I noticed I had the wolf ring glow around me lol.
Of course I got invaded eventually by a guy who was my level, even though I thought he was a twink. Using gold tracer etc, was totally unprepaired but I managed to last a good while at least :v: Downside to doing this in the burg I guess (prolly should move up to the parish for anti-twinking since I know the burg is a heavy spot popular for high level pvp and I'm right on the bottom cusp in my soul level (98)).

Well, I guess it's time to try another playstyle. Thinking about making an archer character, are they viable?

Archers are probably one of the best playstyles in the game.
Cheesing every enemy from beyond the range they can aggro is kind of monotonous though.
