I just tried defeating Havel at like level 9. It didn't end very well.
How can I farm for Humanity? I really need it for summoning but without the lordvessel my options are limited.

Farm the rats in the Depths.

life tip: backstab him repeatedly
[editline]23rd January 2013[/editline]
or parry him if you're confident he won't smack you in the face

I'm level 9 with a Zweihander though. I guess I can try that, I am quite new if you hadn't noticed.

it's pretty much impossible to backstab Havel if you're not fastrolling, FYI

if he instakills you in all your armor, take it all off so you can roll faster
you just need to roll a lot while fighting havel; avoid all damage rather than soaking up huge hits
[editline]23rd January 2013[/editline]
your weapon doesn't really matter as long as it does a lot of damage since most of your hits are going to be backstabs
i know this is sort of a lot to ask from someone who just started playing but this is how i got him the first time too
it's pretty much impossible to backstab Havel if you're not fastrolling, FYI
It's not that hard with a midroll, it just takes longer because you only catch him between 1/3 and 1/2 of the time.

I just circle strafed him for 10 minutes. Also, don't use magic of any kind.

It's easily manageable on medium speed.
All the havel fight consists of is rolling from/through easily telegraphed attacks
Can anyone on xbox help me with Ornstein and Smogh? Right at the stairs to the castle, NOT the boss door.
SL57
I look so sad.

Also finished my ricard build, but put 1 point wrong. Looks like it's gonna have to be a 98 rather than 50 ><

Unfortunately I can't find the screenshot with same amount of souls that I got from a guy in painted world in full stone armor but here's another good example.
It's always priceless beating someone who is level 300+ as a level 40.
finding people who are afk who've you invaded is like finding a treasure because now you can just sit there with dark hand and take all of their humanity.
Could someone assist my level 25 character with Ornstein and Smough? Solaire doesn't cut it and I am certainly not hardcore enough to solo them in this state
I believe the level range is 13 to 37, PC version
Edit: After dying within one hit of victory against super ornstein, I managed to summon a nice fellow and we then claimed victory
I should make a sunbro sometime
So I was planning on buy a guide book for Dark Souls to help me along since I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing (Even trying to follow/imitate tactics I've seen on videos has helped at all).
But of course; the guide book is around $50.
Jesus, not only is the game difficult enough for newcomers but there is also a substantial penalty for guidance.
People really weren't kidding when they said the game was hard.
nobody had any idea what they were doing at the start, just start playing, pay attention, and you'll learn the gist of it

Don't buy a guide book. It'll only ruin your experience in the long run. Just don't be afraid to explore every corner you come across.
Summoning Phantoms can also help you find your way around places, assuming they know what they're doing.
Yeah you are supposed to be stupid in your first playthrough. My character was fucking awful.

Fatroll and weapon that is incredibly slow, plus stats all over the fucking place. (Didn't even know you could two hand weapons for more damage)
Being stupid is part of the fun I didn't even know about summoning phantoms or stat scaling until I already beat the game. I also went through the entire game hollowed cause I had no idea what humanity did, and I just used it to substitute for estus.
Reached Blighttown on my SL1 run, I have a Fire Reinforced Club, +10 pyromancy glove, and another +5 reinforced club I'm saving for lightning. SL1 is actually more fun than I expected, it isn't too hard yet (but I'm guessing I should be expecting that to change soon)

Same here, I thought humanity was useless so I had a massive stockpile of it.

Surprisingly, I wouldn't really say SL1 ever gets that difficult, as long as you have the right items for the job. I found the 4 Kings quite difficult (because I was trying to tank them), and Gwyn nearly impossible (because I was still using a heater shield), but that's just my own fault.
Unless you really want Smough's armor/hammer, kill him first. Super Ornstein is much easier to deal with, just stay between his legs and hit him until his does his jump attack, roll away, repeat.
I agree, but it's more of a personal preference than anything really. People kept on saying Super Smores is easier, but Super Oreos is much easier for me.

Actually, funny you should note that, one of the Phantoms I summoned yesterday I was hoping would help me out with the Taurus Demon, instead he decided to make a beeline for a Havel the Rock and get one-hitted, leaving my sorry ass to deal with him (Spoiler: I didn't beat him).
