Not sure if I am enjoying the game so far. Especially with the super ugly console port.
Get the DSFix. You'll be able to play at your native res and change all the settings you need.

Already got it

And the game still tells me to press RB to attack.
Playing with a keyboard means you're doing it wrong.
Also I dislike how there is no tutorial and I have no idea what humanity and kindling bonfire do. What's the difference between being hollowed and not?
In fact the game looks just not well made and tries to hide it behind "hey that's intentional, we just don't lead you by the hand"
haven't you tried "reverse hollowing" at a bonfire? if you don't have any humanity, then it tells you that you need it. bam
if you've actually tried kindling one of the bonfires, then you'll notice that you now have more estus flask uses. the changes are all observational, just pay attention
trying out all of those options at the bonfires was basically one the first things everyone should be doing in the game

yep tried that just to find out
didn't notice the estus flask, thank you
Man I got into dwarf fortress and cataclysm rl, this game is super easy.
But the "hit the needed button in needed time" is what I hate.

I had some fun tho when at start something went wrong and I had no hud or menus. I thought it was supposed to be like that so I had to try 13 fucking times to kill the first fuckign swordsman with my sword hilt. After I got past him I saw 3 more and an armored dude and I thought that this just can't be that unfair.
Then I fixed my menus, got a schimitar and thought:"What a damn easy game"
I should try to beat the game with the sword hilt once

Turning human gives you higher resistance to curse and other status effects, and allows you to MP either via co-op, invading or receiving a cavity search with with a lightning zweihander.

You could always install this: http://darksouls.nexusmods.com/mods/41
As much as I love DS the port was really, really shit. Considering it was an unplanned port I guess it's somewhat excusable, but the mod community is what really makes the PC version getting since they fix 90% of the problems with the port.
Playing PS3 version, stuck on four kings SL1 - trying to tank it with Iron Flesh and Havel's armour but I still get murdered by combos, any tips?
Also is the DLC worth buying for the price?
The DLC is amazing, worth every penny.
don't tank them at that level, just don't get hit
Four Kings at SL1 works fine with Iron Flesh+Havel's and 20 estus flasks.
I feel like I made a mistake making my spare balder side sword a chaos balder side sword but it seems to work better against crystal hollows than my spear
oh well
Also, is there a better way to judge where the hidden ledges are in the crystal cave than waiting for a snowflake to fall on it or spam prism stones?
shoot arrows

Yeah I got that vibe constantly, you get used to it I guess and it does get better.
Use whatever you want, the Dragonslayer spear appears to do less damage but it scales with your stats while the lightning spear doesn't, it also has a ranged attack. Pinwheel is also crazy easy.
Yeah, I was looking at it and the Claymore scales equally as well with Dex as it does with Strength, so it really doesn't matter if I put more points into Dex in favour of Strength specifically for the Dragonslayer Spear.
Pinwheel I just ran at and slashed with my Claymore until he fell over. First try ez (and then I fell off a cliff in Tomb of the Giants)

"No tutorial"? Are you actually kidding me? The undead asylum is the tutorial. What, do you need it to come up and say "HEY, DICKWAD, I'M THE TUTORIAL LEVEL!"

Just my 2 cents, but that's part of the glory and fun of this game is bein thrown into this world and figuring out whats going on on your own. obviously you're allowed to ask for help sometimes, I did, but it's so much fun figuring it all out. You're given basic controls, now find you gotta find the rest on your own.
I mean, this IS a notoriously hard game; what did you expect?
"No tutorial"? Are you actually kidding me? The undead asylum is the tutorial. What, do you need it to come up and say "HEY, DICKWAD, I'M THE TUTORIAL LEVEL!"
It could use a better tutorial though.
It's not that it's hard, it's vague. If you aren't used to the mechanics, of course it's going to beat your ass
I used to think it was hard, but now I know better and realize how easy it is to defeat an enemy simply by leaping around and stabbing it in the back and whatnot, instead of cautiously pulling and having a riveting fence match
It could use a better tutorial though.
Yea, although figuring stuff out for yourself is really fun, it took me 3 minutes to figure out how to equip a shield.

Also, I'm stuck without Dark Souls. No copy of it available in my area.
Edit: Ordered it online, now I have no money for Fire Emblem Awakening or xbox live.
what the FUCK
okay so
I'm running around collecting items, I haven't fought any bosses even, not even the taurus
Lautrec wasn't in his cage, I go back to Firelink and the fucking firekeeper is dead!
WHAT
I think this is where inspiration for Gwyn's sword came from:

Was used by Pier Gerlofs Donia, some Frisian pirate or some shit who was famous for using his zweihander to cut off multiple heads with one swing, with his inhuman strength of course.
Oh it's because I got the firekeeper souls fuuuuuuck

Happened to me before when I grabbed three Firekeeper souls before meeting him.
It could use a better tutorial though.
Why are people disagreeing with this?
If the tutorial explained how to properly read discriptions of items (and made it important to do so in the tutorial, since I didn't know you could read discriptions of keys till I had to ask what the hell one of my keys were for to progress), properly explained what the hell item scaling is, explained what covenants are (not really spell out what they do, but at least introduce the player to them in some way), what humanity is for, what the point of being human is, how the entire upgrade system really works, etc then the game would have started off much better.
Knowing those things is critical to playing the game, but it doesn't really explain any of that. You literally won't understand how to do that stuff without running into it by accident or without looking up a starter guide on WTF all that stuff means.
Having knowledge of those things also doesn't diminish the main point of the game at all - uncovering the mystery yourself, and figuring out what to do, where to go, how to beat enemies, etc through trial/error or chance.

He kills her once you've found 2 fire keeper souls, regardless of when you obtained them.

Lautrec is kind of an asshole. I always kill him before he kills the firekeeper.
