Drop a +5 lightning Uchigatana for a guy with terrible gear (Full starting knight gear, still had the standard broadsword) have a nice fair fight on the bottom of the stairs. Bam indicted. And not a single one from 20+ bow knockoffs

Nothing freaks out new players like BAM PIGGU FACE IN YOUR FACE.

So what do I need to do to reach the 4 Kings/get into the Abyss? I saw a sign saying that I need to go to the "forest" so I assume I have to fight the wolf I heard about? Can someone explain in simple terms that aren't extremely a giveaway?

Knight Artorias was the only person who has been able to transverse the Abyss. Though he isn't alive anymore. Perhaps you could try visiting his grave, deep within Darkroot Forest?

Equip your iron boots and head to the bottom of the lake it is there you will find the truck Mew is hiding under

Abysswalking is impossible, a fantasy from an old tale. Venturing into the forest will only bring the wrath of its inhabitants. There's a reason Andre the blacksmith holds onto the crest of Artorias, if any old fool could wander in there without it there'd be a lot more hollows around.

The dark hand shield scares the piss out of a lot of new players.

First part of my stream is going to be me beating the 4 kings, so that might take a bit 'cause I've never taken them out with a dex weapon like the shotel.
