You can skip Taurus just by using the master key and going down to Havel's area, run right to the church through Darkroot Basin. I thought about it because it's really quick but we need his juicy souls.

What level is suggested for Sen's fortress? I'm at SL45 now and currently getting wrecked.

most people are at mid to high 20's by the time they finish Sen's, you must be doing something wrong

You're at the average soul level for Sens. Have you been upgrading your weapon?

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic or not, I'm always level 20 by the time I get to gargoyles. On top of that if you do Depths, Blighttown & Darkroot you should be 40 or so unless you squander your souls.

My longsword 10+ wasn't doing the job, but I luckily found the lightning spear.

If you're more of a dex build try grabbing an uchigatana. If you're more of a strength build the zweihander or claymore/bastard sword are good as well.

12 is generally what you are at when you hit gargs. You just hideously over-level, or grind souls.

I've got a bunch of first time DS friends playing on the PC, and most of them were around 18 by the time they hit Gargoyles.

I just spent ~10 humanity trying to beat Asterix and Obelix. I was helped by a Solaire build. I summoned him twice and the second time, he gave me 10 twinkling shards because we failed the first time. Really swell guy!
