Oh man, so exciting to be doing this series now and here is the first part! And as always Facepunch Dark Bros, your feedback and support is super appreciated. SL1 Guide 1 - Bumble Beginnings "Welcome! This series is all about playing the game without ever levelling up! One big goal is to become a Darkwraith as soon as (reasonably) possible to give us complete invading freedom. The broader goal is to challenge ourselves and beat the whole game without leveling but that doesn't have to be as hard as you think! Watch as I show you guys the best, safest ways to get through the game."

I was hoping you'd take the super long route to skip taurus for some reason, but then I realized this was the "easy way out". :v:
I was hoping you'd take the super long route to skip taurus for some reason, but then I realized this was the "easy way out". :v:
You can skip Taurus just by using the master key and going down to Havel's area, run right to the church through Darkroot Basin. I thought about it because it's really quick but we need his juicy souls.

I don't think I've ever opened the shortcut between the Burg and the dragon bridge.

You should use the blue tearstone ring
Isn't 20 a bit high for the Burg?
Not really no, I've been summoned a few times already. I do mostly go to parish and such though.
Isn't 20 a bit high for the Burg?
Yes
What level is suggested for Sen's fortress? I'm at SL45 now and currently getting wrecked.
What level is suggested for Sen's fortress? I'm at SL45 now and currently getting wrecked.
most people are at mid to high 20's by the time they finish Sen's, you must be doing something wrong
What level is suggested for Sen's fortress? I'm at SL45 now and currently getting wrecked.
You're at the average soul level for Sens. Have you been upgrading your weapon?
most people are at mid to high 20's by the time they finish Sen's, you must be doing something wrong
I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic or not, I'm always level 20 by the time I get to gargoyles. On top of that if you do Depths, Blighttown & Darkroot you should be 40 or so unless you squander your souls.
You're at the average soul level for Sens. Have you been upgrading your weapon?
My longsword 10+ wasn't doing the job, but I luckily found the lightning spear.
Snip (Just rate me late anyway, I got ninja'd)
My longsword 10+ wasn't doing the job, but I luckily found the lightning spear.
If you're more of a dex build try grabbing an uchigatana. If you're more of a strength build the zweihander or claymore/bastard sword are good as well.

You just hideously over-level, or grind souls. edit: wow bads
12 is generally what you are at when you hit gargs. You just hideously over-level, or grind souls.
I've got a bunch of first time DS friends playing on the PC, and most of them were around 18 by the time they hit Gargoyles.
I've got a bunch of first time DS friends playing on the PC, and most of them were around 18 by the time they hit Gargoyles.
That's because they die and collect their souls a lot, it pools up.
12 is generally what you are at when you hit gargs. You just hideously over-level, or grind souls.
12 is average for people who already know the game well. 18-20+ is average for new players.
12 is average for people who already know the game well. 18-20+ is average for new players.
Yup. And most people who play dark souls already know it.
I just spent ~10 humanity trying to beat Asterix and Obelix. I was helped by a Solaire build. I summoned him twice and the second time, he gave me 10 twinkling shards because we failed the first time. Really swell guy! [editline]7th December 2012[/editline] Beating them was probably the hardest thing since my nipples
