I hope there's going to be a "main storyline" that you follow through like your traditional RPG, but there would still be item descriptions and books and shit that tell you about the other parts of the lore.

Kind of like Dishonored.
I'll admit, I've cheated just to make myself a certain level and give myself stuff, just because I don't want to play for 6 hours to dress up like Ornstein
6 hours saved by a few clicks. CE magic.
Hmmmm... totally didn't expect that. Truth to be told, I'd like to see Demon Souls 2 than DkS2, or totally new souls game with new world and everything. I think it's going to be a sequel than a prequel. As words go "chosen undead, long without a light(dark lord ending), and hope". DeS had more atmospheric locations than DkS in my opinion. But as we see in trailer everything looks pretty good. But with new director, so, we're gonna get lore into our throats even if we don't want to?
Good luck getting Demon Soul's 2 as long as Sony owns it.

There's a looooooooooooooong list of things the DkS community is waiting for with the release of Dark Souls II.
A reason to dual wield
NPCs' mouths move when they talk
better networking
etc the list goes on
i wouldn't mind having some more NPC interaction, helping them out and shit. outisde of bosses, the only time i got to fight alongside one of my bro's was with sieg at izalith
i would also like a full fledged love interest half of the game in which i can slowly progress my relationship with solaire/newbrocharacter and have them pour estus across my chest and sprinkle moon grass along my manhood
Holy shit, new Dark Souls? Yesyesyesyesyesyesyesyesyesyesyesyes
So what's the use in playing a thief?
On that note, what's the "best" class to play, and which covenant provides the most benefits?
what
you don't have to cheat
I don't feel like spending hours making a PvP build then getting bored or disliking it
So what's the use in playing a thief?

Thief starts with the Master Key, which you can choose as a starting gift for other classes. It's good if you want to make a dex build.
There is no best class, class only affects starting skills and gear. The only thing you should take into account is what you want the build to be in the end. Benefits are relative as well. Darkwraith lets you invade others beyond the cracked orbs you can find in a couple places, Dragon covenant lets you use dragon head/torso stones, Dorkmoon lets you invade players with sin, etc. You can jump between them with the only penalty being your rank halved if you rejoin.

Awesome, thank you!
What're the benefits of a dexterity build? And what can a thief build into?

the only impact starting classes really have is your stats, it doesn't really matter what you choose, as you'll only be a few soul levels away from them. but if you plan on making a optimized build, starting stats matter and stuff.
there is no "best" class, but early on pyromancy is very powerful, so many people go with pyromancer.
covenants provide different benefits, some are focused on PvP (read: the major ones) others on co-op and some don't involve online play at all
the world awaits you go and explore fuc
edit:
anything can build in to anything, but starting class determines how fast you build in to that thing (by a very veyr very tiny amount of time. aka: the guy with 15 intelligence will be better with intelligence faster than the guy with 8)
dexterity builds tend to be faster and stuff
strength builds tend to be slower and stuff
int builds are magic and stuff
faith builds are also magic and stuff
the best way to determine what you want is to play. running around looking at the best builds to use is pretty boring and to be honets you can go through the game with a horrendous build. (don't put anything in to resistance ever)
Huh. And here I thought the Spike awards were going to be complete shit...
Pretty odd how it's just Dark Souls 2 though. I expected Dragon Souls or something.
The only reason Dark Souls actually is Dark Souls is because Sony owns the rights to the name Demon's Souls. So to be able to go multi-platform they had to rename the sequel.
Awesome, thank you!

I use thief if I want a dex build. Wanderer can work too, having one less point in dex, but higher vitality, endurance, and strength. Dex builds use weapons that scale with dex, which are usually faster weapons like katanas, rapiers, Silver Knight gear, and bows. Generally you want to pick a class with a head start in the skills you plan to add to. Bandit has good strength and vitality, so it works as a start for build that will tank with strength-based weapons like greatswords, ultra-greatswords, greatshields, Greatbows, and things of that nature.

Warrior, Bandit or Pyromancer are generally the easiest starting classes, so I'd start with one of those. Classes are really more of a starting points for minmaxing whatever build you want to be running with, but you shouldn't worry about that the first time around.
Covenants depends on what your playstyle is as they don't really give you any passive bonuses but rather unique mechanics for invading/summoning or a few powerful spells. Find out what your playstyle is and run with that

I made this speculation about DS2 but people made fun of me in the stream.
Those masks that the dudes were wearing looked kinda like those Japanese white face masks.

Those guys might be from the east. Shiva's obviously middle eastern/asian inspired and he's from the east, so... maybe they're from the same place?

Yeah, and I hope they have enough time to finish the game this time around. If you look around places in Dark Souls you can clearly tell they were running out of time with the dead ends and what not in Sen's, Blighttown, Ash Lake, etc. Gwyn's boss fight was really disappointing too once you realize you can just parry him.

EARLY MORNING DARK SOULS LEEROY STREAM
just got the lard vessel so i am about to get the armor soon maybe
Hopefully a high-def version of the trailer will make it's way online. The shot of the Knight kneeling on his sword would make an awesome background. Hell, I'm gonna avatar-ize it.

I'm not sure you can call a dead end in Sen's the result of rushing. That place is full of traps and other things meant to make it as painful as possible.

Lords blade, Ciarans men, etc etc.
I wish they continued the tradition of different names; they could have called it Defiled Souls or Desolate Souls
I wish they continued the tradition of different names; they could have called it Defiled Souls or Desolate Souls
That isn't a tradition, Dark Souls is the spiritual successor to Demon's Souls, not a sequel. Sony owns Demon's Souls so to make it cross platform they had to start a new universe.
I just picked up DS on the PC after having played for more than 200 hours on the PS3.
What mods should I be looking at, and more importantly; will they get me banned? I'm primarily talking about graphic mods.

You can't get banned for ANYTHING in GFWL DaS, from graphics mods to 99stat infHP PVP. I'm serious.
The only mod you really need is DSfix.
The only mod you really need is DSfix.
Mouse fix too, if you're not using a gamepad (and you don't need to, especially with the mouse fix). Also maybe a UI mod, but that's down to personal preference. I like SilverUI myself.

This mod is pretty damn cool though. Nameless Song fits the menu so much.
Thanks guys, went ahead and set up DSFix. I can't imagine playing DS with a keyboard and mouse so I'm using a gamepad.
@Joe
Really? That's shit. How big is the hacker population on PC?

Depends on what you mean by hacker. Low-level PVP has been kinda ruined since people just use Cheat Engine to twink or outright cheat just to ruin newbies' days, although low-level PVP has always been a twinkfest so it's not THAT different.
The big PVP areas (Anor Londo, Oolacile Township, etc) are pretty much fine. I've done dozens of SL50 invasions and encountered maybe 3 or 4 hackers. Can't speak to SL99, but if anything's affected SL99 PVP it's Dark Magic shitsuckers, not hackers.
Basically they're like loogies in the punchbowl. Rare, but encountering even one of them leaves you with a bad taste in your mouth.

I guess that's reassuring. It's a shame, I really hoped the PC version would've put a stop to this bullshit, especially considering it's using GFWL. This cheat engine sounds like the BB glitch on roids, but whatever, none of that ever stopped me before. Thanks.
