Are people really arguing that this is Skyrim Oh my god, my sides
No, that really isn't what we're arguing :v: [editline]o[/editline] OH, OKAY, SO I DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M ARGUING ABOUT SO YOU DISAGREE WITH ME? Like, man, I brought this point up, you can't say I'm arguing about something I am not arguing about, YOU can't choose what I'M arguing for. I can. Sheesh
No, that really isn't what we're arguing :v:
We're arguing because you insist some snow+dragons= the game is going to be like Skyrim.
We're arguing because you insist some snow+dragons= the game is going to be like Skyrim.
Wow, way to misunderstand what I'm saying. I never said the game was going to be like Skyrim I said the trailer looked more like Skyrim than Dark Souls in some enviroments and that they're including a whole "Come kill dragons with us" annotation. Not that the game is going to be Skyrim. Just be more styled like it. Like Skyrim was styled like Game of Thrones, rather than Oblivion. Doesn't fucking mean it's a Game of Thrones game.

I misinterpreted what you said before. I guess I just sort of lost it that you were comparing it to Skyrim. Meh.

Shame considering the quality of the books and the show.
Far from it, but it made it mainstream. I strongly assume that if Skyrim hadn't been put into the picture, Dark Souls II would look very different from how it looks RIGHT NOW. The frozen landscape, the fur on the armor, the fact that the channel they're clearly putting a dragonslaying theme on this more than any other Souls game yet. It all seems very inspired by Skyrim. Heck, as far as I know, the first game that did the whole "SNOWY LANDSCAPES + DRAGONS" was actually Skyrim, so there's something. All other examples I can think of included dragons in other locations as well, but here they're making it look very scandiavian and adding dragons. My point in case; This picture Looks WAY more like a promotional thing for EITHER Game of Thrones or Skyrim. NOT Dark Souls. This looks more like a nord ruin than the catacombs we're used to from Dark Souls All of these are just things I'm noticing as I am rewatching the trailer over and over again. I want it to be Dark Souls, but it reminds me so much more of Skyrim. HECK, even the voice. I sincerely hope they're pulling a Spec Ops: The Line here, advertising as something it kinda isn't
Because Skyrim invented ruins, catacombs, and the general fantasy setting, right? It's not like we've had this stuff before in, I don't know, books? Movies?
Because Skyrim invented ruins, catacombs, and the general fantasy setting, right? It's not like we've had this stuff before in, I don't know, books? Movies?
There's having a ruin then there's having a ruin that looks shockingly similar to that other ruin in general aesthetics. Also when the FUCK did I imply I'm comparing it to Skyrim cause it's the ONLY game with ruins and catacombs? It isn't about lack of choices here, it's the fucking design OF said catacombs
There's having a ruin then there's having a ruin that looks shockingly similar to that other ruin in general aesthetics.
all this non-CG gameplay we've seen makes it look a lot like skyrim amirite guys!!! [editline]e[/editline] I started the game over on a new character who only double-hands huge weapons while being COMICALLY skinny. At the moment I am awaiting co-op partners at the gargoyles.
all this gameplay we've seen makes it look a lot like skyrim amirite guys!!!
>Talking about aesthetics >Brings up gameplay >I'm using quotation arrows >Kill me And refer to my post at the top. I am not saying it's going to be Skyrim, I'm saying the DESIGN of how things LOOK looks INSPIRED by Skyrim, in an industry where EVERYONE copies EVERYONE. Learn to read.
Why is everyone bugging out over a GCI trailer? Because it's the only lead we have?
>Talking about aesthetics >Brings up gameplay >I'm greentexting >Kill me
"it looks like this thing" does not equal "it will be like this thing" i don't know if you know this but it is possible for two things to look similar and still be completely different
"it looks like this thing" does not equal "it will be like this thing" i don't know if you know this but it is possible for two things to look similar and still be completely different
Point to where I said "It will be like Skyrim". Cause you're putting words in my mouth right now. I have only stated it LOOKS like the design of Skyrim, heck, not even said it looks A LOT like it, just that it somewhat reminds me of it. But for some reason, you read that as "Oh no, we're getting a first person open world RPG with standard style quests and whatnot!!!"
There's having a ruin then there's having a ruin that looks shockingly similar to that other ruin in general aesthetics. SIMILAR. NOT ALIKE. Gonna state this even stronger from now on, cause for some reason, players of fucking Dark souls, a game where most of the lore is in the text, can't even seem to read and interpret text properly
You said that the game looks like Skyrim and wasn't implying that the game will look like Skyrim? I guess I'm interpreting you wrong then.
So I come to check out how this thread is hanging and I find 3 pages of bitching and arguing because Zondac brought up a reasonable point about the trailer looking a little bit like Skyrim, haha
You said that the game looks like Skyrim and wasn't implying that the game will look like Skyrim?
I am saying TWO OF THE SCENES IN A PRERENDERED CGI TRAILER look a bit like another popular RPG from the same year as the first game. HECK, if ANYTHING, I implied the MARKETING would be done a lot more like Skyrim than the game itself

Carvings in a ruin? Next you'll tell me ruins are OLD and have undead enemies in them! Have you played any fantasy games besides DS and Skyrim? Ever? Just because something looks vaguely similar if you ignore a lot about it doesn't mean it takes inspiration from it.

Any with caves with those kinds of carvings on rocks, that is. I am not even joking, if you can show me an example, please do.

Carvings/paintings/whatever on rocks isn't exactly a new concept. In fact, it's been around for a few thousand years.

We're not talking about society. We're talking about an RPG. Look, please, I wish I was just crazy and completely off, but I think this has a slight resemblance to this Not OH GOD IT'S GONNA BE SKYRIM, I'm saying it LOOKS A BIT like the AESTHETIC DESIGN is a bit more similar to Skyrim than Dark Souls was. COULD BE A COINCIDENCE, but in the game industry, I don't know.
I'm getting a real Shadow of The Colossus vibe from the trailer where you need to do something for some unknown woman, and you're not even certain if it's the right thing to do.
Thousands of years, but not many games, is what I'm saying. We're not talking about society. We're talking about an RPG.
And aside from Alduin's Wall and the Hall of Stories in some of the many draugr-filled tombs, Skyrim doesn't have a lot either. Now drop it, I can feel my brain cells killing themselves every time I have to explain that a carving on a rock doesn't equate to a relationship between two games unless they are the same carving or a blatant shout-out like that.
With the armor, snow, dragons and fighting the dragon on top of a snowy mountain resembling a lot of key features in Skyrim, a guy with a torch exploring a cave filled stone carvings isn't helping with the Skyrim vibe that you get since the Draugr ruins were also a big theme in Skyrim. If they wanted to make the trailer be more Dark Souls-y they should've put more emphasis on being undead than the dragons flying everywhere, maybe show some unique areas like the crystal cavern or Anor Londo, but I guess the new director is going for something else.

It's incredibly arrogant to say "This would look completely different if it wasn't for Skyrim", and a big fucking insult to From Software. Those two don't even look similar aside from the fact that they are carvings on a wall? I understand the references between the two but they just feel so forced.

I feel like they wanted to say something with the sun setting, but it could honestly just as easily be a time of day as it could be an indication of how much longer the age of fire has left. [editline]10th December 2012[/editline] (attempted merge) With From's attention to detail, I have no doubt that every tiny thing in this trailer has some kind of meaning though.

We might just be looking at this wrong. If the Age of Light ended, and the Age of Darkness has started it would explain why the world is colder, and snow covers everything. Either that or the game is set in the numerous icy mountains that make up the backdrop for Dark Souls.
