So thread, I just got this game earlier in the week, expecting to get my ass kicked seven ways from sunday. And I did. But I am really in a spot of trouble now. My progress:
After spending an hour and a half not realizing you're not meant to go to the Graveyard, I went and slayed the Taurus Demon by grinding undead in the Burg to SL14 and chucking ten firebombs at him from the tower. I killed the armored boar at the Church by leading him toward the stairwell so he passed through the fire until he died. I found the Blacksmith ten yards from the lightning gargoyle, and got a Halberd+1, Broadsword+1, Longsword+1, and Knight Shield+1. I returned the Fire Keeper's Soul and got the Estus Flask+1. I got a shortbow and acquired the Drake Sword from the bridge dragon. But now these Bell Gargoyles are wrecking my shit. I'm blocking like I always am with a heater shield for complete damage reduction, but when the second one drops down it's over. The Tail Axe has good range, but I just can't keep out of range and keep close enough to attack at the same time. Is there a fundamental part of the gameplay or super helpful tricks and tactics I'm missing that would help me, or should I just grind a bunch more to buff my stats? Also, I'd rather do this alone for the satisfaction, that's the biggest thing keeping me playing this game.
Advice?
Go human and summon Solaire at the boss gate. [editline]10th December 2012[/editline] Also, pick a specific weapon and upgrade it, otherwise you are wasting souls and titanite.
I DIDN'T SAY COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. I SAID IT MAY NOT LOOK LIKE IT DOES IF IT WEREN'T FOR SKYRIM. Gooood, why can't you guys read?! AND YOU USED "YOUR" WHEN SPEAKING ABOUT SOMETHING I AM!! IT'S YOU'RE FFS
lmao it's pretty obvious that dark souls is a rip off of Dragon Age because there's dragons in it and DRAGON is in the title don't forget WoW because that has caves and dragons too

My progress: Advice?
That boss mainly brings in the 2nd gargoyle so you try out the coop. If you don't want to summon a human player (wouldn't recommend it if you want to keep the challenge) then summon Solaire at the boss gate, like dogmachines said. The gargoyles weakness is lightning, so if you have any lightning resin apply it to your weapon. Also always chop the tail off the first one before the second drops down, because it'll remove the second ones tail too. This'll leave their backs vulnerable for future attacks.
The proof that Zondac has a point is that a lot of people thought the trailler was for "Skyrim" or Dragon Age 3 and not Dark Souls.

SL1 Guide 2 - Poopy Goat "In this video we get our bling and shinies. As mentioned in the video there are a couple combinations of armor that are better for defense by 7.9 physical defense or less but they all use the hollow warrior waistcloth or the sorcerer hat or the sorcerer robe and I really dislike how those look. The dingy robe is also used in some slightly higher defense builds and looks pretty good but in order to get that we need to go through a large portion of the game without the FAP ring and that's a bad idea. 8 defense is almost never going to be the difference between life and death so I figure it's best to go with something a little more stylish and that's what I'll be showing you guys!
How the hell did you do that?
I used this fine gentleman's cheat engine script to change my character's body proportion values. It's really simple and the guide is well laid out. Will you guys stop this nonsense? This war can continue forever.
Will you guys stop this nonsense? This war can continue forever.
and it would probably never change.
Yes, we're all very scared and vulnerable that our beloved Dark Souls is going to be taken in a vastly different direction, because all change is bad and we all just want more of the same. We get it, let's not start flinging our nappies at each other until there's something worth actually complaining about. In the mean time, what would you guys like to see in Dark Souls II, to change the mood a bit? Any features or implementations, cosmetic or gameplay-wise?
No more lava levels and dragon butts. Please, From. All of Lost Izalith was stupid. The Bed of Chaos fight was stupid. The lore behind it was brilliant but aaaaa the level was so dumb and shoehorned in and setting-based-obligatory stuff
Lost Izalith wasn't that bad. There's just nothing to do in it other than go to Bed of Chaos.
Izalith and the Demon Ruins were interesting, but if not for the fact that the Bed of Chaos doesn't "reset" upon death it would have been near impossible.
Lost Izalith wasn't that bad. There's just nothing to do in it other than go to Bed of Chaos.
If anything the bloom on the lava could have been reduced at LEAST 50,000%. Maybe more.
Lost Izalith wasn't that bad. There's just nothing to do in it other than go to Bed of Chaos.
There's onion fella and his band of merry octopi.

The lore behind it was brilliant but aaaaa the level was so dumb and shoehorned in and setting-based-obligatory stuff
I thought the demon ruins/lost izalith were cool. Fighting all those boss demons and going "oh man I am a badass" was cool. The whole "giant city ruined by lava" was cool. The dragon asses were weird, but since when has anything in Dark Souls made sense? The only bad thing about that area is the Bed of Chaos, and FROM has outright apologized for that abortion of a boss fight, so I doubt we'll see anything that bad again.
If anything the bloom on the lava could have been reduced at LEAST 50,000%. Maybe more.
No, double it and put randomly placed high-tier gear in there that you can't get anywhere else.
The only bad thing about the area besides the boss fight is that instakill-lava is already an overplayed trope and by the time you're walking in the stuff you're nigh impervious to it anyway so what is the point of it being there? It's just a nuisance because they show you that lava is deadly and then immediately give you a ring that makes lava feel like getting pricked with a needle at the doctor's office. It was just pointless to me. I get that it fits the aesthetic of the area but I sure as hell don't want to see it pulled twice because it fits with the game's setting.

It felt like it was a housing for the boss, and that was it. Nothing else worth being around for. Demon Ruins were fun though.

You can't get to certain items/areas without killing the boss.
