It serves as a beef-gate. You can't get to certain items/areas without killing the boss.
You can skip the entire section by opening the shortcut via the Chaos Servant covenant, which granted you will NEVER FIND unless you look it up or find a message telling you about an illusory wall.
The lava was there to make you juggle your rings, because that's exciting gameplay right there.
And even then, you don't have to do much of that because there isn't even any lava past the dragon butts. It's just this pointless five minute dash through lava. I dunno, I just didn't like it.
Yes, we're all very scared and vulnerable that our beloved Dark Souls is going to be taken in a vastly different direction, because all change is bad and we all just want more of the same. We get it, let's not start flinging our nappies at each other until there's something worth actually complaining about. In the mean time, what would you guys like to see in Dark Souls II, to change the mood a bit? Any features or implementations, cosmetic or gameplay-wise?
It's not that all change is bad, not at all. Dumbing down Dark Souls to appeal to the unwashed masses is objectively an awful change and maybe the end of the world. However, we really just don't know enough about the game yet to know if that is the case. I'd like to see a more lively world, more NPCs wandering around and wandering enemies. I like the open world of Dark Souls but it needs more variation and new events to make passing through the same area a second time more interesting.
Wandering Mask Cultists (speculation name but whatever) would be awesome, especially if FROM puts in more parry/riposte animations, since they're human(oid) enemies unlike Black Knights. Ooh, imagine if you could get ambushed by them ala Hollow Thieves.

If we start getting some gameplay footage, I'm expecting the floodgates to really open. Perhaps doing things right made the town flourish a bit more, going from a few shanties to a bit of a safe haven for those seeking refuge. (As Firelink Shrine sort of is, [sp]albeit briefly because everyone seems to die or depart VERY fast.[/sp]) You could even bring in the merchants and travellers you find whilst going about your business. However, doing things "badly" could lead to this little place of peace falling apart, crumbling, being invaded, or perhaps even the whole society going hollow. It sounds a little Fable-ish, but if it was done true to Dark Souls style it could be a rather interesting dynamic.
why isnt anybody backing up my idea of a romance themed side part of the game where you can progress your relationship with your undead bretheren until they have your hands pinned above your head and are chewing on your shoulder
why isnt anybody backing up my idea of a romance themed side part of the game where you can progress your relationship with your undead bretheren until they have your hands pinned above your head and are chewing on your shoulder
I've had enough Sunbromance and I want to go home now.
Let's get Solaire and Lautrec shipped already! ... Okay I think I'm gonna be sick, sorry.
you've got to wonder how lautrec got that sunlight medal you did clear out the path to solaire after freeing him

Unrelated, woke up to my Dark Souls asking me this motherfucker of a question. Apparently all my PS3's saves are gone. I think that's... Three NG+ characters down the drain and one just past Demon Ruins. Welp time to start again.
you've got to wonder how lautrec got that sunlight medal you did clear out the path to solaire after freeing him
Probably stole it He's basically Patches 2.0
Just about to play this for the first time. Installed DSFix and stuff. LETS GO.
Just about to play this for the first time. Installed DSFix and stuff. LETS GO.
Make sure you enable the save backup function, it's not on by default. And turn off AA and motion blur in the in-game options, those will fuck things up real bad.
Whenever I'm in human form and in Anor Londo I can never use the bonfire. It's like I'm constantly getting invaded but nothing ever invades me.

Whatever you do, don't be the guy who tries to kill the Asylum Demon with the sword hilt and never plays the game again.
Whatever you do, don't be the guy who tries to kill the Asylum Demon with the sword hilt and never plays the game again.
I had someone ragequit the game Because he was human all the time
I did try to kill it a few times with the sword hilt. Got kidnapped by a eagle and stopped for now since I need to change some settings due to fps being bad.
I had someone ragequit the game Because he was human all the time
I think I invaded your friend. I ran into a hacker yesterday that I called out in a half-friendly way, and his excuse was that I was an invader and he didn't want me fucking with him. The guy was either a troll or just stupid enough not to realize that all he had to do was stay hollow.
I like how the guy crosses the rope bridge so carefully. Just like in the game you are only human and have to be cautious.
Apparently this statue of the Gravelord, Nito is going on sale for $2,000. As much as I love Nito from what I've seen and read, $2,000 is waay too much for that! [t]http://fc03.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2012/159/0/3/dark_souls_gravelord_nito_sculpture_view_2_by_futantshadow-d52psof.jpg[/t]
Especially because the black smoke encompassing him at all times is just some rolled-up felt.
Keep in mind all you invaders that it takes about 10 minutes for you to be added to the server for any given area. If you enter a new area and try to invade all of your attempts with fail for the first 10 minutes or so.
I really think this is untrue. I usually invade on my 4th or 5th try anywhere, no matter where I am and how long I've been there. One time I started Dark Souls, loaded my character, instantly used a red eye orb and got a successful invasion. I did it because I heard a similar statement about invasions, but decided not to upload it because I couldn't find the post about it. If I can find it, I'll upload it to show you. Nevermind, I must've deleted all my recordings to free up space on my computer.
Yeah they really skimped on the cloak of miasma and darkness I want it to be made of the real stuff [editline]10th December 2012[/editline]
I really think this is untrue. I felt a little proud, and sufficiently challenged by the game, when I noticed the little gate behind the Asylum Demon open and ran through it. It was like, I haven't played a game in a while that doesn't give you no less than three red arrows, a directional prompt on the compass, and an objective listing in your journal to run to the exit. Felt good to know that the game was going to treat me like a smart person and expect that of me.
Well, there's a message on the ground that says 'RUN!' :v:
Yeah they really skimped on the cloak of miasma and darkness I want it to be made of the real stuff
Imagine if it had a mini fog-machine inside it that constantly emitted black smoke. That would be the ultimate badass collectible.
I'm currently having trouble with Orestien and Smough, but this is motivating as fuck http://i.imgur.com/8ldeb.jpg
Casual Souls joke: Remember when you walked into the ceaseless discharge arena and he said "Noooooo, stay bad wicked sir! I dropped my ring into the lava and it became the centipede demon and I'm very upset from all the pain this lava causes me! All I want to do is watch over my sister's remains, who was a witch of Izalith." And then the Solaire dialogue box came up and said "Look out! If you take those items he might get angry!" and then your character said out loud "I bet if I kill this guy the lava will dry up!"
