People in this thread saying about how avp2 rocked by far obviously haven't played avp1, the original 1999 game. As old as it was, it still had the right storyline and suspense in it other than avp2 which seems more comical to me. Avp1 had scripted aliens, you'd never know where the fuck the aliens would come from and that usually freaked me, unlike avp2. A long with the alien, the facehugger would always freak you out as it's freakishly fast and you hardly know it's near you except for a strange clipping sound. And yes I do own avp1 and avp2 so I know the difference.
AvP1 was great, and yes suspenseful, but what you're saying about the its storyline isn't really correct. AvP1 hardly had a storyline, it was pretty vague about what was actually going on. AvP2 was a lot more depthy story-wise if you listen to the content of the cutscenes (AvP1 had no cutscenes or dialogue, and you never saw a member of your own species in the game) and read the briefing in the tab screen about what's going on. In fact, you learn a of background about the aliens and predators and the events that occur outside of your view when you read those things. Also, I have no idea what you're talking about with "scripted aliens"? What does that even mean? And how would anything "scripted" be as thrilling the second time through? If you're talking about scripted events where aliens come out of scary places like doors or walls or the ceiling, well, AvP2 had that too. AvP2 was plenty scary in the marine campaign. But I don't know why you're comparing the games by their campaigns, I honestly think that where both the games shone was in multiplay. I didn't get around to playing AvP1 online very much (I had 56k at the time I had it), but it seemed pretty damn fun. I still enjoy AvP2 a bit more though because of its variety in classes.

That game was my first real pc shooter, and my very first online multiplayer experience. I still remember the very first game I joined... but yeah that'd be kickass if we could get people together for a game. The nostalgia alone...
So this IS coming out for the PC right? I have AVP2, but it seems it doesn't support multiplayer anymore D:

This game will be epic, I love being a vicious Alien, a sneaky Predator or a badass Marine. Made me reinstall AvP 2 to celebrate.

"AvP1 hardly had a storyline, it was pretty vague about what was actually going on. AvP2 was a lot more depthy story-wise if you listen to the content of the cutscenes (AvP1 had no cutscenes or dialogue, and you never saw a member of your own species in the game) and read the briefing in the tab screen about what's going on." Actually in both games most is explained in before the game (in avp1 the loading screen, in avp2 the cutscenes with the text at the bottom left) and no, wrong again, there was cutscenes in it but just at the beginning and the end of every classes' campaign.
Maybe you shouldn't link people to sites full of warez and viruses.
GameBurnWorld aint a site full of warez. Its a Site for No Cd Patches and Trainers,It Doesnt count as Warez its only uploaded By the Hosts So they aint viruses Either.
Impossible. Rebellion removed the multiplayer server host so you can't make connectible servers anymore, 'less you use hamachi and i don't think it works
Uh? You can still use Gamespy Arcade to join servers. I just played some AVP:G with some friends yesterday, Alien Tag and some DM... mostly for nostalgia though. Also, I would personally take AVP2's multiplayer over AVP1's any day, AVP1 is way too fast paced for me... players move almost as fast as the damn bugs for Christ's sake. As far as singleplayer goes, they're both pretty even... although AVP2's scare factor was much higher than AVP1's imo.
Agreed, hopefully the PC version will be radically different from the console version, otherwise they will ruin it. Call me elitist if you want, but it's like saying I'm elitist because I say that a Bugatti Veyron is faster than lorry.
Do you mean like dumbing it down? In that case, you are wrong and ignorant.
Do you mean like dumbing it down? In that case, you are wrong and ignorant.
I mean that I hope it won't be a direct port from consoles to PC, it must have a lot of work put into it to be a PC game worthy of the name. And it better have a editor (or even better, an SDK).
Damn FP won't let me edit the post. Anyways, what I meant is that I hope it won't be developed for consoles first, and then ported to PC. If anything it should be the other way around.
Do you mean like dumbing it down? In that case, you are wrong and ignorant.
No he's not, console FPS games are always dumbed down. They have to be, the developers are stuck with only 8 buttons and a d-pad. Because of that they either have to have simplistic controls or button combinations tha tjust don't translate to PC. That's why he's saying it should be PC frst, then ported to consoles.
It depends what you call "dumbed down" . Consoles got different controls then PCs so if you port a game from one to another there has to be gameplay changes to adapt to the new controls. I think the best way is to have 2 teams simultaneously make one version, so you don't get the problems of gameplay that was designed for one being on the other.

You can make a great inventory system with the analog stick, see: 2:24 I can map all the needed buttons here anyway. Predator: A - Jump/Pounce B - Cloak X - Dunno, Trophy kill? Y - Medicomp Right trigger - Attack Left trigger - Attack 2 Right bumper - Change vision mode Left bumper - Change vision mode (backwards) Hold down left/right analog stick and move the stick - Inventory Hold down right/left analog stick - Crouch D-Pad - Weapon hotkeys I think there are enough buttons. In fact, I think this kind of button layout even more enjoyable. I often find myself trying to locate the correct key to stop myself from running in AvP2.
Just made a steam group "Aliens versus Predator: GE" as a way for people who still enjoy the game to contact each other and put together some matches. http://steamcommunity.com/groups/avpge
Do you mean like dumbing it down? In that case, you are wrong and ignorant.
Ok, now that FP let's me browse correctly I can answer decently. First off, I meant that I hope this game will be either developed mainly for the PC, or that the PC and console versions are very different. And yes, I hope the "dumbing down" for the consoles won't affect the PC version (I know it is). Because it will be dumbed down for consoles, if you think otherwise just compare the console specifications to a medium gaming PC and see for yourself. I know they will make a dumbed down version, I just hope it won't affect the PC version.
