I hate the stupid menus. It takes me forever to get to control settings and back. By that time during in game, I was killed by 2 people.
Preordered, and apparently i'll get special skins for doing so!
everytime I'm dominating as alien the host leaves. Thank fuck retail has dedicateds.
I was downloading the demo, when it stopped and decided to update, now it's gone back to 0 and I'm getting 3KB/s. :argh:
So, demo is awesome.
My only question is, is preordering special edition worth the money over preordering normal edition?
(Preordering gets you skins IIRC, and special is maps?)
Well, something happened and now Matchmaking doesn't take too long at all, but the problem is, there isn't much players to play with D:.
I think the demo sucks. From what I've read in this thread, I get the impression that the alien is overpowered. Not overpowered from my point of view. It just sucks. Then again, I suck at every game in existence, no matter how much I play it. I still think the game sucks though. Feels too much like a console game.
Last night the demo JUST came out, and rate me late, but not alot of people had the demo yet.
I Dl'ed the 360 demo and got 1 and a half matches in as an Alien.
Damn you Preds >:[ Stop spinning in circles and mashing grab to stealth kill!!!

Yeah, it only took me about 3 minutes compared to the usual 10. :v:
They still need to make it go faster though.

I don't think the alien is overpowered. It's not like they have insta-kill pounces like in AvP2.
Now they can stab their tail through you... but that's different.
We've identified an issue with the matchmaking system that is causing the very long wait times to get into a PC game, and hope to release an update shortly which addresses this.
In the meantime players can ease connection issues by getting together with a group of players before entering matchmaking. Inviting friends or joining players via the Steam overlay will help work around the issue. If you need help finding players you can join one of the community groups, e.g. http://steamcommunity.com/groups/AVPI.
In addition to the matchmaking functionality the full game features dedicated servers, server browsers, and the ability to host games directly
That reminds me. I'm going to play AvP 2, because I think it's more fun than this.
I tried playing AvP2 a couple weeks ago.
Only 3 servers with people actually in them and they had a ping of 400. :saddowns:
Oh god looking for servers is evil

I was talking single player. I hate multiplayer, which is partly why I hate the AvP demo.
I love AvP2, it's just the super-simple melee combat that usually draws me away from it for a while.
AvP2's MP demo was awesome.
Anyone know how to perform the Headbite like in AvP1 and 2? Or is it only an assassination move now?
Also, is it possible to remap controls on 360?
Okay, this is dumb as all fuck. Now i can get into lobbies, but once i get to the loading screen i wait 5-10 minutes and then finally i'll hear in-game sounds and then it just disconnects me.
How do i fix this error.

I've already reinstalled it once. What the fuck?
First impressions ... the map is pretty good, actually a bit small. The menu is awesome, from my opinion (the single thing I had to do was to change the keys). One pretty fucked up thing is the server connecting. It took me 10 minutes once to get into a lobby, but I had some luck too (like joining a lobby in 1 minute or less). Overall, its a nice demo.
P.S: Seriously, are people that noobs or what? I won 10 games in a row ....

Ok, at least it'll get you out of this thread.
Been playing the demo all night with my firends, definite buy.

I'm really not sure. I've been at the top of the scoreboard by about five to six kills nearly every game now after the initial few games of coming to grips with how each species played.
In each game I normally cautiously approach a member of the same species without attacking and in plain view, I only ever kill members of my own species when I've been killed by them multiple times and made an attempt at gaining their trust.
One thing about most people is when they play as a predator they don't know how to use the combi-stick/disk/plasma caster.
Figured I do review but since it's a demo I'm saving the final verdict till the game is released, probably post this on there forums but seeing as how it's got 10 month old code, it's likely they've already fixed the various bugs in the game.
After playing for a few hours I've got to say this is one of the better games I've played and felt genuine satisfaction for in a long time, however, like all games they have the strong points and their weak points. By the way, I played this on the 360.
Species
I played as all three species to get a grasp on how each one played and I've got to say despite their massive differences between each other, they seem pretty well balanced, that is if lag wasn't an issue.
Marines
Marines I think are the weaker side of the species due to the fact that they lack a heavy melee attack and no stealth kill. But it's not to say they aren't still powerful, all their weapons (with the exception of the pistol) work great against all three species, Alien, Predator and Marines themselves die pretty quickly from only a few hits from these weapons.
I loved the fact that you can now defend yourself somewhat in close combat with an Alien or predator, even if it's only to a minor extent with light melee attacks and blocking. I especially liked the Counter Attack should you pull it off, knocking down an alien on it's ass is so satisfying when you finally kill it with a shotgun!
All the Marine weapons are exciting and interesting to a point but some are somewhat buggy or need tweaking. For example, two weapons in mind are the Pistol and Flamethrower.
The pistol as it stands and as we all know it, is our last resort weapon. It has it's benefits with unlimited ammo and perfect accuracy but the thing that irritated me was the fact that you couldn't fire "as fast as you can click".
There were times when I ran out of ammo in my magazine and traditional game techniques of switching to a secondary didn't work well. If I ever switched to my pistol I had to rely on the secondary mode which was terrible, as it sprayed bullets everywhere except the area I wanted to hit, namely an Alien rushing at me. This was due in part of the slow fire rate of the primary attack, it would help alot if the pistol didn't have such a slow rate of fire.
It was however good when coupled with melee attacks, the speed of your melee attack was increased when equipped with a pistol so you could "chain" multiple light attacks and keep your opponent pinned for a short time.
But it also had a weird bug, if a Marine hit them enough times and close to an object such as a crate they could become stuck in the crate and would be frozen until death, I found this out when I decided to beat down an alien, and YES it is possible to kill an Alien with Melee attacks! (possibly a future achievement/trophy)
The next one is the flamethrower which strangely and it may very well be a bug in the game but it seems that Aliens are immune to the effects of the flamethrower. Which is odd, because in previous games the Flamethrower dominated Aliens in Close range combat. Marines and Predators are instantly lit up like a Christmas tree as soon as their hit with it but aliens seemingly are immune. It still doesn't stop people trying to get out the way when I'm spraying down them down with sticky napalm though!
Overall, I found Marines the most exciting and the most intense to play. However I didn't like the fact that you couldn't get out of a Stealth/Trophy Kill at the front, the back I could understand, there's no escape from a back attack, but surely even a Marine can kick an alien off him? There's also nothing more exciting or terrifying than not knowing what's behind you until the last second or the thrill of an alien rushing at you or the shimmer of light rushing past a doorway, which brings me onto the Predator.
Predator
For the relatively short times I was able to play as a predator, I found the class to be massively powerful if used right. There really wasn't many things I found wrong with the Predator, it seemed pretty well balanced as far as I could see. While it was difficult to get used to the Melee aspect of the Predator I bonded to it well, though it's weapons were confusing to operate compared to previous games.
However the one thing I found and was also on the Alien as well was the Trophy/Stealth Kills. Do they really need a huge lunged distance? You've probably seen it yourself and perhaps done it too, the range is ridiculous for such close range attacks and there's no defence against it. Perhaps make it so that your within arms reach so to speak or for some attacks they can be defended against.
The weapons of the Predator were difficult and confusing to use, I was expecting to use the Spear as an alternative Melee to my Wristblades but instead it's a single use throwing weapon that pins enemies to walls if there close enough, it was just a gimmick weapon in my mind though it is handy for killing enemy predators in one hit, if you can hit them with it.
Now the Disc I liked at first, not realizing at the time you can guide the Disc with your laser pointer it also was able to kill multiple enemies in a straight line and having it ricochet around a small room defiantly caused havoc for a few aliens jumping around in there.
The Plasma Caster and Proximity Bomb were brilliant, they were very useful in multiple ways. I liked to plant the bombs on the stairways leading to the Smart Gun, the unique thing about them is that they can be charged for a more powerful blast at the expense of energy. The Plasma Caster was awesome, nothing like taking down Aliens like flies with those homing bolts!
Alien
Now for this beast. The Alien was at best difficult to control, the transition between ceiling and floor actually made me feel queasy but all in all, playing as the Alien was awesome.
I was surprised by just how long the Alien's Tail actually is, I actually managed to kill several Marines and Predators in the Hallways by sticking to the ceilings and whipping people from above with my tail. The kill sequences on the Stealth kill were amazing, call me sadistic but I liked the one where a Marine gets his eyeballs poked by it's tail and how they're aren't merely copied off existing animations, each stealth kill is unique for each class, including the Aliens.
Like the predator it was difficult to bond to that melee only approach, being a person that's more used to guns than claws or blades made it difficult to do.
One thing that bothered me was this strange icon popping up now and again with "RT - Transition" which I presume meant switching between the floor and ceiling or switching between wall climb mode and normal mode. Which in this case I didn't get it and instead used jumping on walls to activate my wall climb. I wished that it explained a little more on Alien movement before the match began, I didn't know of it's sprint "pounce" attack or allowing me to jump wall to wall.
While confusing at first it didn't stop me from giving marines some new holes in their head!.
Conclusion
While saving the final verdict for the final game I'm defiantly buying this when it comes out, it's been a long time since I last played an MP game that doesn't leave me frustrated to all hell. My only thing I wish this game to get is some nice fine tuning and polish before it finally comes out.
Hopefully they do release an updated demo during release because I want this game to be good and right now I have no real understanding of its quality.
Anyone want to have a match on Steam, add me to your friends list.
Looks like I will be staying from the Marine class for a while. I will try to hone my Alien and Predator skills for the official release.
They really need a server browser in the official version.
