Lightstones are already worthy though they should drop more dust or crafting should take only 4 dust.
Also since the logs don't burn forever anymore netherrack is good for fireplaces.

Nether gems would definitely give me reason to actually bloody explore it, but I can't honestly think of any practical uses for it.

Aye, we need way more stuff to make the Nether a place to visit. It's a place of great risk, but the rewards aren't THAT good, only some sand that makes you sink, rock that burns forever and a load of glowing glass staligtites that break and drop little piles of glowing dust.
It'd be great if there were valuable materials or even giant mushrooms that look like trees, for a start.

I think glowstone should have a chance of dropping dust, like 1/8th chance to drop 1 dust, 1/16th to drop 2 etc...

Personally, as i've said many times before, Rubies should be made from Redstone, either by being mined with a Diamond Pick or higher (it could happen), or combining 4 Redstone Dust into Redsand and smelting the Redsand in a Furnace.
That way, Rubies would have a similar sort of "magic" that characterises Redstone. And I don't care what they say, I still want to combine a Ruby with a Bone and a Gold ingot to make a Wand that shoots Magic Missiles.

overpowered. Maybe wands should be found in 2 pieces over dungeon chests? (ie if you went to 2 dungeons you would have a 70% chance of making a full wand)
