It's a glitch that happens when you are in a corner with lava opposite it, it really sucks, i end up /homing unneededly :v:

Oh well, Notch had to make it somewhat difficult to make portals. Still though, i think it should be fast to mine, but in compensation have a large chance of just breaking like glass. It should only drop a block occasionally. thereby, portals are still a pain in the ass to make, but the game stays true to it's IRL counterpart :buddy:
