Most definitely, nothing beats Die Hard in my book. It's one of my favorite movie series. Although, I still do get that same feel from this game's humor. While it does have its silly moments like the famous fuck you part, I still enjoyed a few other moments which I thought were pretty clever. Like the moment where the white hair randomly fly's onto his head, (Cue thread title) I got a kick out of it. It has its bads and its goods.
Wait until the ending its [sp]really bad[/sp]
People are taking this game for too seriously.
This game takes itself too seriously
People are taking this game for too seriously.
I feel like i'm the only person to have played (previous) DMC's and isn't butthurt over it.
This game takes itself too seriously
It's pretty clearly 100% shlock/cheese. It's not taking itself seriously in the slightest. [editline]15th January 2013[/editline] Rock, Paper, Shotgun review is up. Spoilers, they like it too. But since most everyone seems deadset on hating this game, I guess that means you'll just be missing out. :v:
Well since I never played a DMC game. I guess I will like it?

But since most everyone seems deadset on hating this game, I guess that means you'll just be missing out. :v:
Someone hasn't been following the pretentious Tameem and how deep his game is. The best way to describe this game would be bipolar. One second, it's trying to be a "serious social commentary" on how evil the media is and that they're demons trying to control you. The next, they're trying to pander to old fans by making Dante spout some "witty quips". The only problem is Ninja Theory doesn't know how to make likable "cool" characters. In an interview with Alex Garland, who worked on Enslaved with Ninja Theory, he brought up a discussion he had with the team. Ninja Theory wanted the main character, Monkey, to kick a guy off a ledge and to his death instead of help him up. When Garland asked them why they did this, Ninja Theory said they thought it made him "badass". Garland said it made him look like a cunt. This is exactly what is going on here. If Donte had been the silent emo smoker that he was in the initial trailer then maybe it wouldn't be as bad. But this game has no clear direction. That opening with Dante naked in his trailer flying around gives the implication that this game is going to be tongue in cheek, but then it goes the other direction. This game has no clear direction, no idea what it wants. It tries to be deep and pander to new and old audiences, but it fails at everything. It makes sense that game critics are liking this, because they have no idea of what quality writing is. If a video game has the most basic of metaphors or allusions, they will hail it as "deep". edit: and "lel im gona have fun you grumpy gus XDXDXDXDXD" is not an argument and does not defend this game from criticism.
Well since I never played a DMC game. I guess I will like it?
You'd be better off buying the DMC Hd collection and DMC4. You'll have way more fun out of all of these for a smaller price, and you won't have to suffer Donte. [editline]15th January 2013[/editline] If it was a standalone game that wasn't part of an already existing series then its only problem would be horrid writing, but the problem is in comparison of games of the same series you can get on the same supports, the game isn't worth it. It's all a matter of comparisons really.

See: your post history. What I am saying is that it looks stupid. Stupid and fun. I like stupid and fun things. Any semblance of seriousness in this game just looks farcical to me, in a thoroughly enjoyable way. Maybe you want to think it's aspiring to be Shakespearean so you can hate the game more, whatever. That's cool. You're free to do that. But I want to play it because it looks fun, 'k?

The reason I really cannot take this seriously is because Donte is pretty much exactly the same as a bad DMC fan character in a fanfic I read once. Not that you take DMC seriously but you get my drift
I hate the game because they pretty much raped Dante as a character. I'm not even talking about his redesign, but the way he acts. Also the dialogue and line delivery is some of the worst shit I've heard. It's just awful.
People are calling the game shit because they're picking out the shit parts of the game. As a whole, this is a pretty damn decent game, but everyone is focusing on the not-so-decent parts of the game, like the sometimes childish and/or stupid "humor", or the new Dante. I was a blind hater of the game too, but I just picked my copy up and played through the first few missions on Nephilim, and the game is pretty damn fun, and the story isn't half bad either. Don't shit all over a title just because of what you SEE. You have to experience the game itself to truly judge it, and I've taken back most, but not all, my bad thoughts about the game after playing for a few hours.

Because not only is this one terribly written but it also has an extremely dumbed down gameplay. The fighting mechanics and the character of Dante were the two things that made the previous games and this episode has nothing of it.
I can't stand Dontes look because everytime i see this: I see this: He looks like a 5 year old.

I don't particularly like Dante in this, but he isn't a terrible character some are making him out to be. In terms of fighting, I think it's pretty solid. The acquisition of the Angel and Demon weapons (as well as the story behind getting them) I think are pretty neat additions, and add to the gameplay.
what are the damn decent parts of the game that hold it up if the fighting mechanics, gameplay and writing are all terrible [editline]15th January 2013[/editline] what does this colour enemy needs this colour weapon add to the game
To your first question, I won't answer that because it's purely opinion. The entire game and every aspect of it is not terrible. To your second question, I haven't reached that point in the game yet, I'm just enjoying the fact that I have multiple weapons to use besides just a sword and guns.
To be honest I would widely prefer having a single weapon with indepth combos and moves rather than three weapons that are all poor gameplay wise and can be very easily exploited to reach stupidly high scores by doing a single move over and over again.
I'll post my argument on the matter, as an owner of the DMC HD collection and someone who is going to be buying DMC4 thanks to someone pointing out that it was on sale on GMG for no reason. This is a pretty sweet game
I completely forgot about the "styles" in the other DMC games. They really did dumb down this one. Wow I feel stupid now.
I think I'm missing something here, wasn't the old Dante a douchebag as well?
I think I'm missing something here, wasn't the old Dante a douchebag as well?
Tastefully. He wasn't an angsty emo faggot either. He was a douchebag, to be certain.
I think I'm missing something here, wasn't the old Dante a douchebag as well?
Well, not the intensely obnoxious and vulgar type.
I enjoyed the game, it was fun, didn't really have any problems with it. It was a good shot by Ninja Theory Also I have no idea why people are talking about the "real" Devil May Cry universe and it's franchise ending, there will most probably be a Devil May Cry 5 or some kind of continuation of the story line from the Second Game. That universe is still alive folks. Meanwhile I enjoyed this one, it's humor might have fell flat most of the time but the story line and the acting was well done in my opinion. The gameplay changes were interesting too, I don't think a lot of people understand the concept of a reboot, the game is merely a spin off, retelling the story in an alternate universe, it's not going to replace the original series ever, so of course the game play is going to be different. I just don't see why we can't enjoy games like this where it's most likely not going to affect the development of the original series anyway (Just look at the initial reception, of course there's going to be a Devil May Cry 5) can't we just cease the slating of the game and it's fans? After all they're only trying to enjoy it. Every game has flaws after all. Some people will enjoy it, some people wont, it's literally the same idea for everything in media or just life in general. I hope in the future we get to see Devil May Cry 5 being developed by the original dev team over in Japan and some kind of sequel to DmC being developed as well. That'd be great.
Played the demo. Thought it was decent. Though I haven't played a previous DMC before. DMC4 is like 6 bucks on GMG for no raisin so I picked it up.
I originally thought that it would be okay to have Dante be immature and eventually grow up into the Dante we know. But after reading this thread it seems that Ninja theory seriously screwed up the character. I guess I'll go reinstall my DMC4 copy
I think I'm missing something here, wasn't the old Dante a douchebag as well?
Uncle Dante was delightfully cheesy. funny part is, this is more Shakespearean than anything Ninja Theory or Tameem will ever shit out
Picked up the game yesterday and its decent. Definitley not as bad as everyone says it is and I've been a big fan of the DMC series for a long time. You all need to chill out, It's just a game. Yeah the game has some flaws but this is like Ninja theory's like Fourth game? They're still improving, hopefully they can improve on their flaws next time.
