That's DMC4, right at the beginning in the church after Nero first fights Dante. He spears Dante with his own sword to a statue of Sparda
I remember when I first played DMC4 I actually burst out laughing when he just walks around with the sword through him.
Statue of Sparda* Also god damnit, I keep crashing on the last cutscene of mission 4 in DMC4, guess I can't go farther.
Can always download a 100% cutscene and skip it
Can always download a 100% cutscene and skip it
Yeah well, that's just when the crash happens, no telling if it's only this cutscene in particular, it also doesn't even start. As soon as I approach the huge courtyard to fight that frog monster, the game just goes black and crashes.
Its the 25th, why doesnt DmC unlock for another 18 hours on steam :c
Anyone know if this has been completed by any non annoying lpers yet? I want to see how horribad the entire thing is and no fucking way I'm paying money for it.
i haven't played a dmc game before but this caught my interest because i got an evil dead vibe from it. playing the game i kind of get more of a Blade vibe. it is fun, but maybe i'm not a hack and slash guy, because it gets pretty boring and repetitive very fast. i feel like it will be a pretty forgettable game. i am only two levels in though, it could change at this point.

The gameplay is not as indepth as the previous one, the difficulty is too low to really present a challenge and the combos are far too easy to place, not to mention the game works around the basic/angelic/demonic weapons mechanics which is far from balanced nor interesting. You would be better off playing DMC4 which has a much better gameplay, an actual story and difficulty progression (first half of the game is pretty much easy mode with an easy to handle character, second part is with Dante, a character where you have to handle different weapons with completely different gameplay mechanics as well as five different styles that you have to upgrade regularly and that drastically change what you can do depending on which style you have selected). The mere fact there is an actual lock-on mechanic makes the game much more interesting : most of the moves you have requires you to lock onto a target, push the left stick either towards and away from them, and press a certain button. Some other moves require you to wait for a certain amount of time between each attack , or very precise timing (blocking with Dante is really hard to master, so are EXceed moves with Nero). The game is also straight to the point : there is some backtracking and you really have to keep track of what you are doing and why because everything is flat : there is no platforming bullshit and very rarely will the game ask you to jump your way to a certain zone, except for secrets. The story isn't the best but the characters are likable at least : some of them may seem really out of place if you haven't played the previous titles (especially trish and lady which are really out of nowhere in this one if you don't know about what happened beforehand) though. Apart from that, it's pretty much just a pretext to see dante and nero fuck everything up (Dante's section is pretty much Nero's section in reverse with new enemies, a harder difficulty overall, variances in bosses, and access to previously locked bonuses or secrets). And even if you go through the entire game in normal mode (there is no easy mode, only an "automatic" mode which essentially makes combos easier to place, nothing more), you can still beat it in demon hunter mode, then turbo mode (the entire game is something like 10 to 20% faster I think) or even Legendary Dark Knight mode which is a PC exclusive and essentially multiplies the number of enemies on screen. And best of all the game is like 4 bucks on GMG right now. You'll get much more enjoyment out of it than you will with DmC.
isn't dmc4 a horrible port though, or am I thinking another one? I remember there's one that's such a horrible port that it actually plays better on an emulator.
DMC4 is a fine port, although directionally you might suffer a little since you have no inbetweens on keyboard.
DMC4 is a fine port, although directionally you might suffer a little since you have no inbetweens on keyboard.
I completed son of sparda difficulty on a keyboard. DMC4 is a great port, you're thinking DMC3.
Just for future reference, how does this game play with keyboard and mouse?
DMC4 is my favourite hack and slash/action game. Impossibly cool and over-the-top but the gameplay is great. [editline]25th January 2013[/editline] Don't own a PS2 though so I never got to play the first three.

Fuck, just played a mission in DMC3 where [sp]I had to fight the previous bosses in the game. Luckily I only needed to beat 4 of them, and I could pick which ones, but still, that was an ordeal.[/sp]
If you had fought them all you would have gotten a blue orb fragment.
Yeah I figured as much. But I just cannot be bothered to do so. Too much suffering. Too much dying.
It was more like "Hey remember how you played as Nero for half the game and you're used to his devil bringer and all his abilities? Yeah go fuck yourself and play as Dante now with a billion more abilities and a COMPLETELY different style of gameplay." It's fine for people that played DMC3 but uh... people that were newer or hadn't played it in forever couldn't really do crap with Dante.
I only got to play DMC3 a bit at my friends house as I never had a ps2. After getting DMC4 for PC and finally getting Dante I felt duped. I was so bad I had to go gunslinger with swordmaster here and there depending on enemy position. I'ma play it again without using the grab with Nero and see what happens
I completed son of sparda difficulty on a keyboard. I think I'll go grab a controller instead of buying DmC
I'm arguing with a friend right now, he loves DmC and keeps babbling about how the voice acting and Dante as a character is amazing now and it blows my mind, he's even saying he's got the same attitude as the old Dante.
What a fine game:
I don't get what's so buggy about that, it took you forever to get that far up you could have killed a whole group by then.
There are some levels you can fly around if you do that glitch. Like, mid fight, go into a weird stance and essentially noclip around the rest of the level.

I can't believe there are people who say the voice acting sounds good. That scene towards the end where Dante yells "VERGIL" and then follows it up with a hilariously weak "aaaah." will be forever stuck in my mind, like THAT'S the take they went with? Come on
I don't get what's so buggy about that, it took you forever to get that far up you could have killed a whole group by then.
But you can do it. It's a game that even in the hardest difficulty setting lets you juggle around with enemies indefinitely. He might as well have stopped at a safe distance from the ground, beat the shit out of the helpless dude, grab another guy while still in midair and repeat. In the previous games your character had much more weight. It was possible to hold in midair for a bit, but your highest point is immediately reached when you actually jump/use a launcher attack, then whatever you do, you will go down, even if you never stop firing your guns which tend to keep you in the air. Not to mention as dante there isn't actually a way to bring a character to you in the air : this is a move nero has to make it easier for newcomers through the first half of the game acting as an easy mode, and even then you can't just hop onto the enemy as a platform, grab him again and repeat. This is not really a "bug" as much as it is a huge fucking fault in design.

I will never forget Resident Evil and the fucked up lines said in the most hilarious ways. [editline]26th January 2013[/editline]
But you can do it. It's not something you are forced to take advantage of and its certainly not something that you'll want to use too often unless you want to turtle the highest difficulty extremely slowly.

Even in the hardest difficulty available from the start, the game is still easy to complete and actually getting a SSS rank (the highest possible combo rank) is extremely easy.
What a fine game:
my game had a cool feature too
I know there is a lot of hate for this game, and i know there are better bosses and better boss fights AND better looking boss fights. But the Bob Barbas boss battle was the most visually appealing boss battle i have played in a while, imho. I dont know why but i just fucking love how the face is its own entity yet the body is in the background, the corruption looking bits all floating around and how he sounds. That sort of technology fucking up sound really gets me.
I got to the end of DmC without hating it too much, but god damn, the final boss fight. [sp]It feels so fucking broken. It really feels like the sum of all the games flaws rushing back to you in the last few minutes of the game. It would've been a really tense one-on-one fight, they could've made it so it's relying on the player's skill, but it can be exploited so easily with the angel weapons. The combat feels so restricting later on in the games when angel and demon weapon types are introduced. That last segment of the fight with Vergil's doppelganger feels like total bullshit to me, too. The devil trigger runs out too fast for you to kill him, it's hard to rack up combos when he parries almost every one of your attacks and you can't use your pull attacks either. This fight, no, the entire game would be so much easier with a lock-on. I could really do without the camera hurling around everywhere so I can actually keep track of who I'm fighting. Christ.[/sp] It wasn't a bad game overall or a complete disappointment, but my god it has so many flaws. [editline]asdfasdf[/editline]
But the Bob Barbas boss battle was the most visually appealing boss battle i have played in a while, imho. They tried to go for that cinematic angle with the boss fights, but I think the Barbas fight was the only one that pulled it off successfully. It was really fun.
Started playing this after going three quarters through DMC3 (don't worry I'll finish it) It's fun, but it's not a DMC game. It's Heavenly Sword 2 in gameplay, which isn't bad by any stretch. It's just different. I dislike the ability to instantly catapult yourself to SSS combo, and the ice enemies only being able to be defeated with the angel weapons, and the fire guys only going down with the devil weapons. Nerfed guns aren't fun either. Ebony & Ivory are about as effective as shooting peas at a brick wall. Guns were a huge part of the previous DMC games, with the Gunslinger style and all, they were a force to be reckoned with. And what's with the lack of a lock-on, what the hell? Story's fine, it does the job, the characterization is the bad part. I would not call it a DMC game, but it is a hack'n'slash worthy of the genre name.
