But what about theocracies?
Honestly I don't see how theocracies could work at all, due to CK2 being centered around dynastic gameplay. Republics are a nice addition, because historically many doges during this period were known to have family in high office and such.
Break out of the Luxembourg PU if you didn't already.
But I was born in Luxembourg :(
It still baffles me how that country has survived for as long as it did.
Luxembourg itself was not a country until 1839. It was a valuable place, it has a massive fortress and is the center of Europe. The main city in Luxembourg is a city build upon a fortification. It was a point of interest for many countries. Most of the time Luxembourg was a province of different nations until it gained independence.
So basically, it exists because european powers super built this county, and after a while they basically just ran with all the equipment and made a life off of being a tax shelter?

Us Belgians would've loved to keep you under our wings, along with the rest of Brabant and Limburg.
Too bad the British forced us to cede territory and everybody did what the Brits wanted back then. :(
If it weren't for the British, you Belgians would be speaking German or Spanish.
And heyyyy, you already took half of Luxembourg's land, leave the poor lad alone.

If Luxembourg would still be a part of Belgium, our county would be underdeveloped and poor. All that made Luxembourg prosperous would be taken away and end like Province du Luxembourg.
Why would you do that.
Now your children are going to be halfling freaks.
I'm just saying it how I see it for those times.
Because I like to play dangerously.
So far none of his kids show signs of Lunacy, although they also lack the Genius trait. Two of the kids have the "Middle Eastern kid" avatar, but the rest of them are European (and in the case of the eldest, not slack-jawed troglodytes.)
the new DLC looks p cool. from what I gather it's impossible to change from being just a republic into a monarchy though?
Yeah. I imagine unless a faction rebelled and shit.

Anyway, funny that this came up today.
I've recently been playing a lot of Dawn of Discovery, or Anno 1404. Basically a mercantilism simulator.
If Luxembourg would be a part of belgium, the former Luxembourg would be a lot poorer and with less financial power whatsoever.
The bank secret would be removed, the whole legislation and administrative business needs to be reformed. Luxembourg has become a home for a lot of large companies and coporations who have their headquaters there.
If you would take the bank secret, the largest part of the economical power would be reduced. I am not blaming Belgium, my father is from Belgium. But once you cross the border to Belgium, you immediately notice the difference between both areas.

The North Korean dynasty has all their embezzled money there.
Yes and all the tax dodgers from all over the world.
I just find it kinda great how a country on a county level in terms of landmass, has a GDP that's 1/5 of what Greece has.

Anyone can have a GDP equal or greater while being smaller in population and size than Greece.

It's true, actually. Wallonia, and especially Luxembourg and Namur, are economical shitholes.
Personally I feel the United Kingdom of the Netherlands as it was in 1815 would've been one hell of a strong nation if it worked without having half tear itself away. The Dutch trade supremacy and Belgian industry would've formed a powerful rival to the British trade.

What? If it weren't for the British, the Belgians would still all be speaking Dutch or French. We got annexed by France and then the Netherlands, y'know.

And before that, the Spanish and Austrians.
So will there be actual naval combat or events in the new DLC?
The article said no to naval combat, but the image listed did have a piracy event.

Yes, but they didn't enforce any language policies on the Belgians. We kept speaking Flemish and the nobility kept speaking French.
It was a VERY good idea to send my King out with a small retinue into the Horde. This is just amazing.

It's like being an innocent bystander in a massive bar fight entirely made of angry Mongols.
It was glorious. That was the first battle, they each fought well but the Golden Horde ended the victor with their 76k to 57k. The Ilkhanate retreated and gathered another 10k men, this time they won with 38k to the Golden Horde's 37k. They gathered 2k more men and made another attack, but this time they were not so fortunate. The Golden Horde lost few men and ended with 30k but the Ilkhanate were decimated to only 17k. The Golden Horde was reinforced another 20k and in the final battle lost few men to end at 48k to the Ilkhanate's mere 5k men.
I can only imagine what Genghis is thinking right now, but I am sure the civilised world is breathing a sigh of relief.

Look on the bright side, at least you won't have the Catholic Mongol Empire covering everything from the Baltic to China in the future.
With the two Horde's not even being to hold off Rus any more, I figured I'd check on western Europe. England kept Normandie because France collapsed and Aquitaine is the main power, I was curious about how much of France was now theirs De Jure.
