As you can see here, In my game as Austria, I'm currently playing the role as a modern day Germany. I've fucked Prussia up so much, I have basically all of Italy under my sphere and alliances, so while there's not a united Italy, I still reap the rewards of mass alliances. I've released so much of Prussias land as independent nations :v:

I'm holding literally all of Europe up financially, I've gone a decade farther into the game and formed Austria-Hungary, Russia is currently 900k in debt for me and hasnt gone bankrupt somehow.
I suggest getting up to the IN (In Nomine) expansion, which is Napoleon's Ambition + that. If you like it, grab the other 2.
nah just get all the expansions. divine wind is great
im sorry scout but that's a bad opinion
only get IN if you have a shit computer, get DW (which is chronicles) for the best experience possible. i'm sure there's people here would be more than happy to help. you can also look to reddit, they have a pretty strong userbase, or 4chan. alternatively, the official forums are a good try. i can point you to the specific areas of the sites if you want me to

Abusing the AI for all its worth.

Africa is my heir's territory he has control over. The AI is capable of managing this instantly so I don't need to spend as much time on it. this means that all armies that are under him add up to his total. Around the end of the game he had about 800K meaning that independence was nearly impossible because the most my vassals could ever amount to is about 10% of his forces. I would generally keep his heir then with every duchy title since there's no penalty if you own all the duchies but don't own any Sultanates.

I dunno I found IN the most polished (sans HTTT), and I, personally, don't like spending too much money on something that turns out not to be so much fun. Wouldn't be good if he gets EU3+4 expansions and figures out it's not his kind of game.
The only thing I hate about EU3 is the rebels. I seriously hope EU4 isn't as bad with them.
EU3 has the most powerful rebels, since when are armed farmers as powerful as highly trained professional soldiers? Also play the Portuguese for first game. Fun, small and plenty of ways to expand.

because your "highly trained professional soldiers" are actually just armed farmers for most of the game

On Steam, it can go like <20$ for the whole thing. That's a steal.

I did it as Transvaal

Well look at it from a historical standpoint. Your run of the mill soldier would be a peasant, armed with whatever he could grab or if he's lucky, whatever he got from the lord conscripting him, a more trained soldier in the day would maybe have a few days or weeks of training by the local full time soldiers(which there weren't many of, at all)

Levies in Crusader Kings would be random peasants you called up with only your retinue being full-time soldiers. Since most of the troops in EU3 go through a few weeks training they may not be very experienced, but they have certainly been trained properly. It's comparable to Vicky and HoI where you can train proper troops, or mobilise your reserves and get irregulars.
EU3 are proper troops because they take a few months to get together, makes sense when it's the age of muskets and random conscripts wouldn't do as good of job as properly trained soldiers. In Medieval times you can just hand them the gear and off they go. In Industrial times you can do the same with only a small bit of training or through national programs. In EU3, they need to be focussed and know what they're doing, and good troops will always beat bad troops.
I just keep getting bodied by the French in EUIII
I play as Castille thinking "Oh man, I have no infamy, I got lods of emone, all other Iberian nations are cut down and vassalized, I'm doing great!" and then France is like "NOPE EAT DOOMSTACKS"
Well crap, North Korea won
[t]http://i.minus.com/izqgigCPctfFr.png[/t]
The US Intervened too late.
The New World Order 2 mod for Darkest Hour is pretty good, it most effects 1945 Forward, but it does some changes during the war as well.

For the Canadians out there, you can produce the Avro Arrow in the mod with an event if Diefenbaker isn't PM. If he is PM the only option you have is to Scrap it.

This almost always happens as soon as France unlocks the conscripts idea.
I'm playing the NWO2 mod, and at first I said "I'm in the mood to watch. I'll pick someone who isn't involved, like Cuba. Wait..."

What do you guys mean when you talk about converting from one game to the next? I understand that you mean a chronological continuation, but is there an actual feature for this or are you just talking about save editing?

There are mods/editors/whatever you call them that can convert a save to work with another game.
Most of them are buggy though and probably require a lot of tweaks, I haven't tried them as of yet though.
They look really fun
Yeah, we're talking about community mod-converter projects. Most stable so far is EU3 - Victoria 3. The main problems are the fact that not all cultures and religions are mapped down game-to-game, so you have to use special mods that add to the culture and religion list. Noone has sofar created something that auto detects all cultures, religions, and nation tags in a mod/gamr and applies them to a savegame converter easily.
They aren't really buggy, the algorithms are fine and stable, but the content needed to run the algorithms isn't always there, and isn't fully mapped out. And with games that only have a very small preset list of nations/cultures, like HOI 3, and to an extent vicky 2, it takes very large and extensive mods to map the content from the old game into the new one. The problems you see with misplaced country names, is usually a missing country from the game, and replaced with a random country with no land.
I can't seem to find EU3 Chronicles on the Steam store, is it out in the UK? Looked for just IN as well and all that was found was the trailer.

I'd wait for the steam sale though.

In each of the provinces which border France, put a single regiment of infantry. When France declares war, quickly scorch the earth in those provinces and then either disband the troops if they have no chance of escaping, or merge them with your other stacks. Let them just walk into the meatgrinder. If you're lucky they might even try to assault the forts, in which case you can wait until they're low on morale and troops and just slaughter them.
Well, I solved my French problem.
I just found out how to upgrade troops. I've been fighting with Latin Medieval Infantry this whole time.
Nevermind the French still suck. I decided to just give them all of their cores back so they hopefully back off now. I've also matched their troops at my border almost 2:1 (They have 3 stacks of 11k and I have 5 stacks of 12k)
Canada leads the way!

i finally got the improved edition of achtung panzer that sadly wasn't published by paradox interactive
i had to get it through matrix games, which isn't as smooth as steam, which paradox uses frequently, but i got my digital copy of the game and a product key plus a backup retail copy:

the original game for reference:

how matrix games does their service isn't bad, but it feels like that paradox just pulls it off better when regarding how you actually handle your product
i wish graviteam didn't change publishers
speaking of just paradox-published titles, AGEOD's titles aren't bad if you can get into them, but most of them don't have the polish of paradox's own games

it takes a long ass time to get down from mountains, scorch the land and they'll all die on the march
