Any specific stratergies for the Earl of Dublin starting off at 1066. I know my father is the Duke of Leinster, so I get that when he dies..any other starting moves I should do? Should I marry my heir?
Incest is frowned upon, even in medieval Europe.
Oh damn, slept with my heir's wife, had a kid and legitimized the child. My eldest son and my wife are not pleased

[editline]5th April 2012[/editline] Also I love that fucking feel when you play as the Byzantine Empire in EU3, annex the Ottomans and their vassals, then do what any good Roman Emperor does: conquer all of Europe. Beware, Europe, The Roman Motherfucking Emperor is back, and he united Italy, Ottoman and vassals (and whatever nation is in Turkey), the part Castille/Aragon/Navarra and Portugal are on, France + most of his vassals, Connaught (an Irish Nation) and planning to take Brittany, the French Countries, and the Low countries. Rebels out of the ass, but I just keep conquering. [sp]that feel when you got 40+ infamy[/sp]

Anyways, I smooth'ed things over, wife is still pissed, son is coming around to me banging his wife and producing a 3rd heir to the throne. I gave him a county seat, I guess he cant stay mad to long since he is going to take over everything once I die. Tried to kill the wife, but no one is having it, want to marry a princess that has insane intrigue (It was like 21) and pop out a few daughters. No luck, as no one wants to plot with me. I guess I'm just going to have to keep on shagging the daughter in law. Everything else is going good though I now have 4 counties and 2 duchys (Meath and Leinster). Trying to fabricate a claim on Munster, but its taking forever..my armies are bored out of their minds.
I go 100% government at the very beginning to get the national idea, then split it evenly after that. You know, because technologies you're ahead in have a massive penalty to growth, so specializing in one is a complete waste of money if you're not trying to quickly get something specific. Although I guess if you're playing a non-Western tech group country it's reasonable.
I only like to evenly distribute research after the 1600s' or so. By then there's nothing of real importance to get after that time besides the government (gov't types and NIs') and military techs.
So this morning I was looking for claimaints in neighboring Munster..and found one..a 66 year old, he came to my court. I read a suggestion that if I gave a claimaint a landed title (like count), that when we were successful for his claim, that he would be loyal to me. NOPE. He formed his duchy with the county of leinster as his seat. Well smashed him to heck and back, got back leinster, and now have claims against Munster (With the original rule, duke brian?) as well as my son. But now I am in a truce, so I can't attack for 10 years ugh. Any other way to press the claimant of the 66 yo, and have him become my vassal with the new lands? Also, There is a 12 yearold countess of 3 different counties (Isle of Man, Carrick and Galloway), which looks like a logical expansion for me. Now I have a son who is 10, although he takes a prestige hit, am I correct to understand as long as she marries into my dynasty, that I would have claims to all three counties? Also I married my brother off to the countess of Oriel (right above dublin), But I don't have a claim to that, what did I do wrong? Is it because my brother is no longer in my dynasty? Am I basically screwed? How do I get Oriel under my belt? How do I recall my brother back to my court with his new wife? Or is he stuck as the count of Oriel? A land that I want really bad lol.
So Question, My person is now the King of Ireland (only a couple of counties are outside of my control) and Scotland (Carrick is still not in my hands). I also have a county in the Duchy of Gwynnd (Wales) and a county in the Duchy of Brittany. Now what I want to do is find a claimaint for the Duchy of Brittany, so it doesn't take 100 years to conquer it, county by county. If I find a courtier, with a content trait, I will most likely go with that. here is my question though, I was the understanding that if my dude was going to be a duke, and I'm king, he would be loyal to me..but he wasn't..he became a Independant duke (Duke of Munster). So for the Duchy of Brittany, what can I do differently? I've heard if I gave him a land title (A county), that he would be loyal? Or maybe marry my daughter off to him? (Martineral marriage?) Really need this strong foothold into europe proper, HRE has basically split france in half (upper france/lower france) and Burgundy is independant. One of my sons married a HRE princess so I have a good alliance.
Anyone played Arctic Circle yet?

It's possible that they held the claim on Brittany but were either a member of someone else's court or fled to your court after a botched arrest attempt, meaning they were hanging out with you but didn't consider you their liege. I'm a little sketchy on this particular mechanic though so it might not work that way. I know when you're going to declare war and you have a number of different claimants whose claims you can back you can mouse over each of them and the tooltip will tell you if they're loyal to you or not.
I managed to acquire the kingdom of Hungary as Denmark by marrying my son off to the Queen of Hungary :v: managing two kingdoms is a bitch
I decided to start playing as Scotland in Europa Universalis 2, starting in 1492. (And using an event to give me an explorer because the place doesn't get any unlike other countries) I hope I will do well, because in the game and in real life, Scotland has traditionally been an impoverished semi-puppet state of England. 1502 and 3 trading posts in Canada. I might be going somewhere with this.
And then England ruins your day by screwing you several times over.
Playing through as Algiers in EU3 atm. Took over Tunisia and Tripoli, formed a bromance with the Mamluks and went down to conquer the Southern African nations of Swahili and others. I'm planning on (after the Mamluks get through their fucking regency council) allying with them and starting a war with Morocco. Hopefully I'll be able to make Algiers an Empire soon. I've taken over Zimbabwe and am about to begin on Swahili, but Morocco sent me a warning. I'm probably going to move my armies back to mainland Algiers in preparation for an attack - until the Mamluks agree to ally with me.
I find EU3 hard to continue when I have a massive empire, I have no idea why. It just seems like a chore to finish it.
I find EU3 hard to continue when I have a massive empire, I have no idea why. It just seems like a chore to finish it.
I find it hard to continue after a 100 years. Mainly because I know I'm about to get fucked by all my enemies or rebels.
I find EU3 hard to continue when I have a massive empire, I have no idea why. It just seems like a chore to finish it.
To be fair, I think that depends on what nation you originally start with. Something like France or Britain might become a chore if you totally go Imperial on everyone, but I had immense satisfaction with starting off as 1399 Teutonic Order and finishing with an Empire that spanned from the tip of South America to the Arctic Circle in Siberia. What's fun about massive empires is then you can get into massive, multi-continent invasions of countries. Pulling off a total invasion of fully formed France in 1805, and capturing every province they owned within a year, is one of the most satisfying things I've ever done in a game.

If they're not a kinsman they will become independent unless they are already a landed vassal and hold a title of equal or greater rank to the one you are getting for them. So, pushing a duchy claim for a landless courtier or a count will make them independent (in fact, if they're a count, then their current county will leave your realm as well). Pushing a duchy claim for a duke will have them remain in your realm.
Getting lots of money and having absolutely nothing to spend it on is what makes it boring to continue a game in EU3. Once you start getting like 100 ducats a month and utterly decimate a Ottoman Empire that's ten times your size without a sweat, then you know it's time to stop playing. :v:
10 player multiplayer EU3 DW game: I'm playing as France, the other players are: Castille/Spain/Iberia, England/Great Britain, Netherlands (missed out for ~50 years of gameplay), Papal states (missed out for ~25 years of gameplay), Austria, Ottoman Empire, Sweden, Pomerania (also missed out for ~50 years of gameplay), and Moscovy/Russia. There was a player playing Portugal, but he epic failed (against AI) and quit. I like how no one is colonizing the richest part of the Americas and going for the trash provinces instead.
Is that beta patch for Vicky 2: AHD stable?
I'm surprised France and Netherlands haven't colonized yet.
I'm surprised France and Netherlands haven't colonized yet.
Netherlands player came in late to the game. France is having a cold war with Austria.
Austria player managed to form HRE in the mp game I'm in. [t]http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/542925706476692174/FD2040A0B8B392FBD13607E70AE2FD3136EE6F70/[/t] It's so marvelous.
I wish to get into one of these awesome games but the idea of an end date really puts me off. Is there any grand strategy paradox game that doesn't have an end date?
You and France should have gang raped Austria a LONG time ago...
Speaking of Austria: Is it expected for Austria to become some big bogeyman for you if you intend on playing the Teutonic Order, or any Eastern European faction for that matter?
Just tried out the demo for Warlock - Master of the Arcane. Very fun!
You and France should have gang raped Austria a LONG time ago...
We did have a France player for some time but he quit playing. Right now there's just 4 of us: Russia, Netherlands, Poland & HRE. Naturally, Netherlands and I formed a anti-HRE alliance to ensure France's independence.
