You can completely destroy England if you team up against it enough to release wales and cornwall. It makes it so much easier if you don't have another superpower to worry about.
How do you manage to be so good at Eu3? I am dreadful at it.
The same method with any Paradox game; you have to take baby steps and experiment with trial and error. The EU3 wiki is useful for getting the grasp of the game, too.

Plus there's "resist the english" modifier (I believe)
Scottish resistance modifier, yeah, it gives like a 50% fort defense bonus.
I modded a modifier into the Irish countries called "drunken brawlers" which gave them a boost to attack and defense.
Hey man, don't fuck with Norway. They'll fuck your shit. [editline]23rd May 2012[/editline] Oh I've been meaning to ask this for a while - what's a good total military manpower in CK2? As Norway I have 33K max, plus 4k with my personal levies, but I usually only have 23K available to me. Is that good, or should I have much more?
I generally consider being able to muster 30-50% of my kingdom's soldiers as being pretty good, personally. You'll never get them all without incurring massive relations penalties with your vassals.
I modded a modifier into the Irish countries called "drunken brawlers" which gave them a boost to attack and defense.
Speaking of Ireland, in Victoria 2 I rose Ireland to being a secondary power in just 20 years.
[ t][ /t]
You mean around the [img] or replacing it? [editline]24th May 2012[/editline] Never mind, got it.
So, how does one mod CK:DV? I was playing that game, as Holland, and conquered all of The Netherlands but I couldn't form it! This made me sad.
anybody else have troubles with heresy spreading a lot? CK2+ has my court chaplain constantly on local inquisitions, that usually take forever to do anything. [editline]26th May 2012[/editline] p.s. what are the best skills for a ruler?

Oh boy, I just got Europa Univerales III. Which faction / time would be simplest? I tried Spain in the start but I got overwhelmed by rebels after about 20 years.

Non-European countries should never be considered easy for newbies. Especially countries in Asia, they're more for suitable for well seasoned, patient minded players who know what they'll be up against.
So what are the requirements for annexing? I've taken all of Portugal and those faggots on the eastern Iberian, but I was only allowed to take half of their territory. Do they have to already have been down to just their capital?
Three things: How does stuff like this happen? [T]http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/542928347373527714/6661EF59F68A1A387999A9839C9DA4D6BFF7290F/[/T] Why did they put such detail into the environment everywhere else on the map, but they completely neglected these three lakes in the Finland region? Is it because they didn't expect many people to be looking at that part of the map? Doesn't make much sense considering lakes right next to them have perfectly fine textures. I don't know much about them at that period, but I thought Novgorod and Kiev were still around at that point. It's usually around 3-4 province nations you can outright annex. @kami Ming is a powerful force to deal with until the Europeans discover Asia, while Japan is pretty much completely isolated until the same thing happens.

Will they be a threat to me later on? From watching them completely obliterate Sweden with armies in the upper 90,000's, I'm kind of scared. They were stupid and only ended it in a white peace for some reason.
I'm somewhere around 1410 as Castille and I have 80% of Iberia and all of North Africa all the way to Tunisia and I'm thinking that I'm well on my way to a slow burn to taking Europe. Then comes 1411, where Africa gets taken by a wave of rebels, zealots, and nationalists in a month, and the remnants of Portugal and those other fellows to the east ally with each other and England and hit me from both sides with England landing 15k troops in the north. I was done by 1412. Lovely game so far.

I know I can disable them, but if I do I know that I'll be flooded with rebels I know nothing about in no time.
http://guardiansnf.forumsmotion.com/t66-ts3-info Pop on my TS3 some time and I'll do a quick introductory game with France if you'd like.
got CK2Plus, playing as the duchy of gwynedd. (tiny little duchy on the side of England) So, my half-brother was the earl of Powys, and I decided I wanted to revoke his title (so I chose the plot to do so). Whilst I was gathering support, he decided to also plot against me simultaneously - he also wanted my title, that of the duchy. I of course, imprisoned him for this. Then, thinking that because he was in prison and in no position to bargain, I could send the letter to make him give up his title. He refused, and I decided to go to war, again thinking that since he was in prison, I could execute him and just carry on. So I did. What I didn't realize is that this made my duke a Kinslayer, and then that I still had to fight the war, just against the child ruler of the county. We battled around on the hills and mountains for a few months and I managed to get the upper hand and eventually win. After that, I built up my troops again (now having two counties for a bigger personal army) and attacked a neighbor county and claimed that. So the glorious duchy of Gwynedd is at like, 4 counties. With more to hopefully come. I have more of a tendency to choose smaller dynasties and build my way up, I realize.
I did the EXACT same thing here but I managed to take over England during an Irish / Scot war.
I tried to play Abyssina in CKII after I tried out Ireland for the first 200 years. I did decently well at first managed to conquer all of the southern provinces and converted half of them, and captured half of Axum before the Cairo Caliphate moved in to swallow everything North of me. I figured I could use a navy and work onto Saudi Arabia because there was no way I could match the 10-15k doomstacks that Cairo was putting out. Even worse, I couldn't even hire mercenaries to come to my aid (so this is why Ethiopia sucks). That's when I realized that Abyssina is horribly technologically backwards and does not get a navy so I can bypass all the bad guys temporarily. Okay, not an issue until I cannot even royal marriage for more land outside of my nation due to the hostility towards Christianity by the Sunnis and Muslims. I realized my situation was almost hopeless as Cairo got a far larger income, could hold a larger domain, had an army that was at least 3x mines size and was technologically kicking my ass across the board. I did the only thing I could think of and wanted to see if I could even salvage a win from my situation using just basic cheats. I just used the gold cheat so I could expand my available military(due to no mercenaries) and used it to smooth over all the issues with my vassals so I could safely go to war. After 25 years of cheating my way to the top I had a new King Eragorn II and a military that could doomstack up to 12k. I got a lucky assassinate on their Caliphate and managed to get some of their minors into war and also launched my own offensive from the South. I made good progress capturing Axum, Nubia and part of Southern Egypt (managed to acrue 90% war score) and then that's when trouble hit. Cairo defeated all of their minors using only the Caliphate's armies (fuck, I was using my King's and vassals) and he had 1 doomstack of 11k and was trying to form a couple others (probably another 15k in all). I decided to be a good sport and attempt to win the hopeless battle I was a part of. I managed to get the 11k doomstack in an isolated spot and nearly killed it off when the reinforcements arrived sealing my fate. At this point I rage quitted because I would be forced to give up on any attempts to attack them while they were so powerful. I may have given up too soon, but unless I had a miraculous stroke of luck that completely fractured Cairo so they could not subdue their minors (not likely), there was no real progress in continuing to play. tl;dr Fuck Abyssina, this is the hardest country to play as, period.
Godfuckingdamnit, modding in a new country in EU3, but it won't appear. The fuck.
Playing a game of CK2 as Jerusalem shows you not only how frustratingly difficult it can be to fight Muslim nations (fucking doomstacks everywhere) but also how incredibly retarded the Crusade/campaign AI is. As you've probably noticed muslim nations love to throw their stupidly massive armies around in massive stacks and blobs. The crusader armies obviously had a fight on the way to the holy land because they refuse to be in the same province and all run around in tiny little groups which, while numberous, get swatted in every battle they go into. I've tried grouping my own armies with the bigger crusader armies but whenever my soldiers meet up with theirs that army then abandons the siege it's performing to run off somewhere else, more often than not leaving me in the path of the Saracen horde. "OH YOU'RE COMING TO REPLACE US THAT'S COOL WE'RE GONNA GO STAND IN ACRE FOR A BIT." Crusade failed.
--Abyssinia woes--
I'm inclined to agree with you if only because people actually need to mod the game just to give the Abyssinian AI a chance to not get completely destroyed from the word go. It seems that anyone trying to play in the middle east and northern africa that isn't playing a muslim is doomed to pain and misery. :v: Thread is now RearAdmiral and Evilan crying while we get violated by the Shia Caliphate.
I did the EXACT same thing here but I managed to take over England during an Irish / Scot war.
Haven't encroached on England at all yet, but I did form the the Kingdom of Wales and have taken a few counties in Ireland so I'm on my way to making the kingdom there as well. I got 3 lands in Ireland by way of succession and marriage and assassination. It was a nice moment.
