Just got CK2 off of Amazon on sale. I love EU3 so this should be good.

Yeah, in many ways it's better. I was surprised to find out that I still had no idea what I was doing even though I had played EU3.

Crusader Kings, Sword of Stars and Magicka activate on steam
I woke up at 8 AM this morning and started a French game in EU3. By noon I had all of France and was striding about England. Around 3:30 Flanders, Aragon, and Portugal, and what was left of England declared war on me, and now, at 4, France is swarming with rebels and Englishmen. Someday I swear I'll make it past the year 1500.

Except it's actually better because it's not on steam. I'd say buy it.
never mind

I had some guy imprisoned so I released him.
Then that event plays where they're complaining about their cell.
The only option was "But wait, didn't I already release you?"
I'm inclined to agree with you if only because people actually need to mod the game just to give the Abyssinian AI a chance to not get completely destroyed from the word go. It seems that anyone trying to play in the middle east and northern africa that isn't playing a muslim is doomed to pain and misery. :v:

I cried some big, wet manly tears over the 2-3 hours I wasted getting to the point of no more progress.
Is there anything in the Game of Thrones mod that spoils things in the book?
I'm really starting to hate how the AI can call in any ally for their war. I went from being against 30k to over 100k within 2 ingame months. I went from 3 enemies to 10. :suicide:

Doubtful, pretty sure it's 15 years before the first book.
I've done it! I made it past 1500 as Holland!
Although I did get decimated by France in 1506 due to some poor alliance decisions made with the intent of vassalization. If a nation "doesn't allow royal marraiges" does that mean they cannot be vassalized, since one of the requirements is a royal marriage?

Peaceful vassalisations require monarchies from both sides. You can still force it by war.

Oh boy, downloading now. I had no idea this was out yet.

There are spoilers up to book 5 in the .txt files, so don't look at those.

One problem with taking countries by force: I'm Holland.

Oh please, I managed to do fine with Burgundy. Then again, this was one of the most disastrous games of EU3 I ever played.

Oh god, what have I done? My ruler died just before a new heir could be elected, so then it just went to whoever had the most votes at a time. So the title of king went to some duke who was of a different dynasty, and suddenly now I'm playing as another duke. What the fuck? What can I do to get my dynasty back as the royal family? Should I declare war?

so uhm....
did you win

on another note i wish that the supreme ruler series had a diplomatic(allies-enemies) map.
No, I reloaded from a previous save and peacefully claimed their throne, then waited for the PU to initiate.
If I had fought on Bohemia would've annexed me. :v:

Not too sure as to whether or not you can wage a succession war under an elective system. I've seen the HRE's new Kaiser's brother wage one so it might be possible. I was running CK2plus though.
I installed Crusader Kings II this morning and was impressed that Paradox was honest enough to label every character as at least "Hard" none of that bullshit from EU3 where they implied that any faction might be anything less than soul-crushingly difficult.
Having said that, which one should I try first if my goal is to not get crushed in a week?

Everyone always says starting out as a duke or count in Ireland is the best option for beginners, although personally I had more fun with the kingdom of Norway.
For some reason as your game progresses every other character gets easier and easier. About 200 years into my Norway game I clicked around at the HRE and it had 0% difficulty, Egypt had 2% difficulty, the Byzantine had 1%, and the kingdom of Rus had 0%. All the other normal kings had below 40%. The only characters I could find that had above 50% were lowly counts who were being battered around by rebels and/or bordering kingdoms. Counts who were rich or at peace were all like 45%.
Hey so I'm playing CK2, and I'm trying to change my succession laws. The only error it's giving me is that I haven't ruled for 10 years, but my guy is 49 years old and ascended to his position in his 20s.

Are you sure that's the requisite that's not been fulfilled? I sometimes think that and then it turns out he's got a vassal that doesn't like him because I skim the tooltip.
Other common problems: War, Incapability/Regency, Crown Laws
Nah I was sure, but I figured out what was wrong. He ascended as a count, but then we took over a duchy. It'd only been a few years since we took the duchy, which was the title to be inherited.
Also:
10:46 PM - Scout1 (Treia): This duchy declared war on me
10:46 PM - Scout1 (Treia): Using their bishop's claim to one of my vassals
10:46 PM - Scout1 (Treia): So I hired assassins and slit the bishop's throat, forcing an immediate end to the war
10:46 PM - Scout1 (Treia): unfortunately they discovered it was me and sent assassins back!
10:46 PM - Scout1 (Treia): luckily we caught them, but that was... hah!
One of the coolest things I've ever seen done in a paradox game, for both sides.
[editline]28th May 2012[/editline]
10:50 PM - Scout1 (Treia): HAHA OH FUCK
10:50 PM - Scout1 (Treia): we got an event
10:50 PM - Scout1 (Treia): to send assassins back
10:50 PM - Scout1 (Treia): for the assassins sent at us for sending assassins in the first place
Unfortunately we did not succeed!
