The only way you can be an emperor is by being elected in the HRE or somehow getting in with the Byzantines.
Is it that confusing? I basically learned to play through starting as Duke of Connacht.
It kind of is, but it's mostly because of the interface. It also tends to get more complex as you go on, with vassal control and what not.
Also why can't I form any empire yet?
You need specific culture groups for certain empires and kingdoms. For example: North Germanic for Scandinavia and Arabian for Arabia or Andalusia. One of the posters on the paradox forum described that game feature as "the Pope running into the coronation hall as I was being crowned the Emperor of Arabia, shouting 'NOOO! YOU ARE NOT ARABIAN, YOU CAN'T HAVE THAT TITLE!'"

Well then I can't form any Empire at all. :suicide:

Anyone mind reading an AAR for CK2+?

My first AAR, I don't really have any expectations, but feedback would be nice. If you have a paradox account please respond.
I'm fucking around in For the Motherland.
What are the cheats again?

Really looking forward to EU IV, sounds really really good.
Never been too big on grand strategies, they fuck my mind. But me and a couple of friends bought CK2 together and went in blind and learned with each other, we are absolute pros at it now and it is actually very fun.
Obviously there had to be a bit of backstabbing somewhere... :v:

But that's not a country!
But in all seriousness, I should have checked on google, I'm really tired.
Which nation do you think would be best for a beginner? I had a quick look at the map earlier and really can't decide.
France
Here's my Swiss Empire in 1528, Just went over the BB limit after force-dismantling the HRE, trying to not blob and trying to lower infamy. I vassalized all of those HRE minors by going Merchant Republic after getting a few national ideas that help trade. Once I got merchant republic I basically force eliminated the other 3 trade leagues in mainland europe and set up one huge trade league with a ton of trade agreements.
Once I did that I got a ton of minors vassalized and then started enforcing trade and pissing people off and that generally just lead to me vassalizing more and more Electors and whatnot until one day the Emperor changed to Brandenburg and there was only a few electors left, so I just went for it.
Resulted in going over the BB limit and whatnot but it was worth it to dismantle the HRE and get a ton more vassals. Changed government to Despotic Monarchy en voila! A Swiss Empire.

Changing from an administrative republic to a despotic monarchy? What balls.

For EU3? Castille is objectively the easiest, you'll have a ginormous empire in no time.

As long as you don't piss off the actually powerful nations too early on at least. England or France will wreck your shit.

England is pretty weak at the beginning; their navy is strong but once you manage to land a few stacks on the mainland it's a cakewalk, especially if you get a few other countries on your side. It's not too difficult to cripple England for the rest of the game by forcing them to release Wales, Cornwall, Northumberland etc, and getting a few Irish minors is a plus as well. France is your only real threat as Castille, but if you manage to defeat them in one war and nab a few of their southern provinces, it's a lot easier to completely destroy them in a few more wars.

Sorry I meant CK2
Sorry I meant CK2
One of the Irish states is a good place to start I think. It allows you to learn the game and build up through the different ranks "count, duke and king". Plus you won't usually get any hassle from anyone.
Well, as long as you don't piss of Scotland
I keep telling people that Irish Earls are probably the easiest (if not the most exciting) starts for new players as it's one of the only places in Europe that has a lot of low level lords that don't have lieges all vying for control. It allows a decent amount of conquest and yet still allows you to exploit diplomacy, intrigue and marriages to get ahead and is relatively sheltered from the rest of the political giants in Europe. England or Scotland (usually Scotland) tend to capture a little territory however if you manage to have yourself crowned as the King of Ireland fairly quickly this shouldn't become an issue. If you don't, then get prepared to bend your knee before an English king or try and ally with France because nothing short of a united Ireland can stand against the English for long.
The only other starting location that has a similar situation is Germany under the Holy Roman Empire, however this is all complicated by the fact you have to abide by Imperial Law, and more often than not you have the Kaiser proverbially shitting on you from his magic Imperial Castle.
However once you become Kaiser yourself everyone in Europe decides they hate you and the entire Empire collapses in the space of about five years.
MEANWHILE, AS MEXICO
I'm rustling America's jimmies by joining the Comintern, my spies having caused such political upheaval in Guatemala, they went to war with El-Salvador, so I could intervene and own them.
And in the news:

Which game?
Which game?
I'm going to assume either HoI3 (most likely) or Supreme Ruler: Cold War, but that one seems less likely on account of being fairly bad.

In my experience when in Ireland Scotland tends to be more aggressive but England is much more likely to destroy you in a fight.
