Well, being that Nationalist China is an axis member, Germany goes full retard and declares war on Switzerland. The UK steps in, and so it's allies vs axis. Japan declares war on the USSR, so it's Comintern and Allies vs Axis.
And then France declares war on Mongolia.

I'm more concerned about the fact that there's Bavaria in there.
I've had the US join the Comintern instead of the Allies when Japan declared war on them, I don't how that happened. Soviet Union must have had one hell of a diplomatic influence over them. There wasn't a coup or anything, the democrats were still in chrage according to country status screen.

I don't know how I got that out of there, but eh, whatever.
What I liked about HOI2 was countries would turn into different countries depending on their government. If the Soviet Union became a democratic country they would turn into just Russia.
Vicky 2 has that, kind of. Countries can change name depending on their type of government, and names were really easy to edit as well, same in HOI3. Right now I changed USA to say United States of America.
Also, you can not liberate a unified Korea in HOI3 which sucks, you can liberate North and South separately, but not as one country.

ATM, the UK has yet to invade Ireland, and if you look closely at the borders of Norway and Sweden, you will discover that Finland, Norway and Sweden are locked in a 3-way war.

East vs. West: A Hearts of Iron Game is as close you will get for a modern setting. It's not exactly being developed by Paradox; think instead of the same guys that worked on Arsenal of Democracy for HOI2.
