In Crusader Kings II my king died and my vassals revolted because my new king was homosexual.
...
HISTORICAL REALISM
crush your vassals
become a homosexual god king
Ahaha
Crusader Kings II is great.
You can marry your own Cousin.
You can marry your sister if you're determined.
So I finally got my copy of EU3 with MEIOU working. Playing as the Free City of Lubeck, and generally just pissing off the holy roman emperor as I expand and aggressively pursue new trade opportunities :v:
I'm pissing myself of laughter after playing STEPPE WOLFE
Bulgaria Nationalist Mod for EUIII, if you can get it to run, tries to cover 11-2100.
"QUEBEC HAS REVOLTED FROM THE USSR"

Hmmm....
Apparently I spent over 20 years building IC...
War diplomacy is weird in CK2... I got pulled into 2 wars because of my liege (Antioch) being retarded and rebelling against the Byz Emperor by himself and my solution was to declare war on him which then to my surprise cancelled both of those wars. And then suddenly because he got thrashed by the empire, we were both reabsorbed and then the Shia->Antioch war was cancelled along with my own war against him because he was no longer independent?
My assumption was that I would have remained independent or the war leadership against the Shia would have switched to the Emperor
No one wants to be in my trade league, which makes me sad.
Victoria II is awesome!
In Victoria 2 as Finland, Chile got about 4 million immigrants in the space of 50 years.
They then took over the entire New World.

Democracy mechanics are the best mechanics.
Chile actually became a great power in my game, ranked above the CSA.

By the 1930s there were more Irish people in Chile than people in Ireland.
One of my Kings was a Dwarf with a clubfoot who managed to unite Ireland and conquer Scotland in a span of 40 years.
I love CK II.

Well, it looks like it runs in the family.

Do you get situations in CK2 where there is shit like Poland owning Ireland or Castile having vassals in Croatia?

Yeah. It's not like it's hard to happen. AI gets lucky and manages to inherit some random province nowhere near their demesne or realm. If you're one of these people that need pretty borders it can be annoying. I however love messy borders.

Yes sadly. Words cannot describe the anger when you occupy and destroy someone's land and army in Spain and find out later there mingling in the middle of Russia.

I had Denmark inherit Hungary and France took a chunk of Muslim Spain in my game, reminds me of EU3
Finally managed to unite Japan on EU3. Took me much, much longer than I would have liked.
Still, now I get to beat Europe to the New World and terrorize East Asia! I have it on good authority that Korea is currently shitting itself at my leftover armies from all the Shogunate wars.
Would anyone recommend either Hearts of Iron 3 or Europa Universalis III? Have the opportunity to buy one of them.

Don't, under any circumstance whatsoever, buy Hearts of Iron 3. It's fundamentally broken, not fun and you need to buy at least two expansions/paid patches to be able to actually play it at a reasonable speed. If I were you I'd buy either Darkest Hour (Basically the best Hearts of Iron game), Europa Universalis 3 Chronicles (Not complete, that one isn't actually complete) or Crusader Kings 2.
Crusader Kings 2 is amazing so far, playing as Poland and I've married into the Danish royal family as well as the Duke of Sjaelland

Don't know how you've had so much troubles with it. HoI3 has some excellent mods and is by far one of my most played paradox games. 235 hours according to steam.
Hearts of Iron is the way you want to go if you want combat mixed in with light Industrial management. If you want some more basic combat systems but a more in depth family tree, politics and vassal management, go for Crusader kings 2.
If you don't want to piss around with family tree's and unruly vassals and instead just rule most of Medieval Europe go for EUIII(still, rebels everywhere).
Playing CK2, As Aquitane, end up creating a duchy claim on neighbouring Toulouse and take them over, owning all of southern Occitane France, turn my interests southward and destroy some muslim nations and Navarra to connect my lovely place without going to any other kingdoms. France ups authority and I lower it with the help of another plotter, my power was 513.7% against France.
I love this game.

Wow, how did you get such a high plot power? I'm the Despot of Syria and I only get 18% against the Byz Emperor :[
Is there any way to get vassals to like your son in CK2? I have a big country which always goes to shit when my leader dies because nobody likes the heir. Do big countries need elective law or something?

However once you buy both the expansions that's where the game's playability starts to improve considerably, Semper Fi and For the Motherland are both worth the money and on the plus side they're not even all that expensive (8$).
They used to be like $30
