I find that war in CK2 is incredibly easy as long as you have equal to slightly superior numbers.
How to win if you're in a defending war. Place a unit that's about half the size of the enemies army at a river or mountain area, set other army, armies in adjacent areas. Sweep in once the attack starts.
I also really fucking appreciate how they made leaders useful in the Sword of Islam update. Fucking love when a 25 martial general has a legendary attack and causes a flank to collapse within a day.

Also, Game of thrones mod was updated to 0.3.1 with some great new, but minor additions. No new campaigns, but I really like some of the new features that they added. They made Valeryian Steel weapons a bit more important and you can now pass them down to any son that you choose, and you can go to war with another house over claim on your ancestral weapon.

I just had an awesome war as the King in the north, Circa 10 years after the war of the five kings. I had made sure that the Lannister dynasty was extremely weak, as I eliminated all their heirs and now their main dynasty is all but gone, except for their shit skilled cousins.
After the war of northern independence, Stannis gained power as he was the next in line, since Joffrey was slain, and Tommen is locked in the massive dungeon of winterfell.
I married Sansa to the weakling Arryn, and my first daughter to a member of the Tyrells, a year or two after executing Loras after capturing him. I married Rickon to the sole Targaryean and disputed the iron throne with the daughter of Stannis. Called in my allies in the Vale and the Reach and won the war to restore the throne in about 3 months. A Stark will rule all the kingdoms once the queen grows old.

As Robb, I slayed most of the heads of the major houses in personal combat and I had Jon Snow as my main general to the flanks. He had a Martial skill of fucking 26. Lance Rayder destroyed the nights watch and I had the chance to Invite Snow to my court, since he liked me a bit more than the wildling traitor.
So I'm playing HoI3, just starting random wars for the hell of it. Germany and Italy destroy France together (and consequently start WWII, I even made them attack Poland without the Allies giving a shit). Then Vichy France appears. Then Vichy France joins the Allies.
?????
vichy always joins allies in my games
Well my of Revolutionary France 2.0 ended when it took 5 seconds for an hour to pass.
I had about 8 filled army groups, but due to supply bullshit none of my units had any organization and just endlessly attacked small pockets of German troops in the true French fashion: Running bravely into battle, and then immediately retreating.
If you look at my supply count in my screenshots you'll see it turned into "-", which probably is bad.
But now I'm playing Belgium and doing the same tactic, so all the partisans I spawn in France will just be AI immediately.
The "-" is normal, it's because you're Government in Exile.
GiEs uses the faction leader's supplies instead of their own. Otherwise you'd be out of supply all the time.
How can I spawn partisans in hoi3?
revolt [provinceid]
oh partisans
not rebels damnit
How can I spawn partisans in hoi3?
You can start building underground resistances after one of your provinces are taken. Once you place them in a province they start gaining power slowly, with a maximum of 1 power. You can spawn partisans for .5 power, but early on you want to spend the full power to expand the resistance to a neighboring province.
Though you can only control the partisans if you have a government in exile; otherwise they're rebels. Because of that if you're allies it's generally best to put bases in Poland and France, since they get liberated last in most games.
Starting as the United States, does anyone have some good advice just for first steps when you are starting to get going? I know I need to jump into the Texas/Mexico War, any other important first steps to set it up well?
And it's also a good idea to only do that to yourself if you're GiE or have lots of occupied territory, since all partisan bases you put outside of your own territory won't be usable by you.
I really hope that in some CK2 update, they make Regents actual well, Regents. Instead of just a second Guardian, they should be able to control a kingdom till the ruler comes of age and as a regent, you have like, no power for some reason.
That wouldn't be fun at all. It's realisitic for sure, but no one wants to spend ages waiting for their 14 year regency to end without anything to do.
If they made it like in EU3, where some things are unavailable (wars..) then that'd be fine with me.
what recent hoi3's should i get
[editline]3rd October 2012[/editline]
fuck it bought all the ones, had the money
I got undergrounds in all of France, Poland, Denmark, Netherlands, and most of Norway, and the tides turned right after the Netherlands were liberated, and France was right outside of Paris.
Now I have to refound the Dutch underground and wait for another Allied invasion.
Of course, I sprung before the Soviet Union entered the war, so maybe they can distract from Poland distracting from France now that they're fighting.
Why does the Historical Flags Mod change the Japanese flag into the Imperial Japanese Navy flag? Slightly annoying...

use this.
I'm still waiting for the 'Official" announcement of East Vs. West (right now its just been announced on the forums, no official PR stuff or even screenshots) . It sounds cool. According to one of the Devs they've been working on it for a year, and it should be out early 2013.
The announcement was going to be at the end of September but it was delayed.
I can't wait until they start putting out dev diaries for that. Going to be such an awesome paradox overload over the next while with Legacy of Rome, EU4, March of the Eagles, and EvW
I'm having this really weird problem where all my Artisans are getting 0% of their needs as soon as I start the game, and I can't seem to fix it.
So, Darkest Hour, 1936, using the 'freedom' cheat, made Germany and Japan and Russia democratic and made France, UK and the US National Socialist. Everything seems to happen the same, until 1938 when France and the US declares war on Germany, the US Joins the allies, then a month later US declares war on Japan. Oh also somewhere between '36 and 38 I made the US conquer Mexico for some reason.
[editline]5th October 2012[/editline]
Suddenly, partisans, partisans everywhere in Russia.
should I buy the finest hour? are there any major improvements that are worth the money?
I'm having this really weird problem where all my Artisans are getting 0% of their needs as soon as I start the game, and I can't seem to fix it.
It frequently happens when you first start up the game or load a save. It takes a few in-game days for the artisans to get their needs.
Also new EUIV dev diary on monarch powers.

That oh shit moment as Hungary on Darkest hour when you're wondering why the rest of the axis forces are running away from the eastern front, only to look down and see all of Italy destroyed and American forces about to invade you. Fucking Italy man...
The few times I play as Germany, I always try to send Italy expeditionary units.
They still fuck up.
Ironically, in Hearts of Iron 3, they can be a huge powerhouse. More so than Germany. Why is it so backwards in Darkest Hour?
I guess Darkest Hour is more realistic :v:
Need some advice. I'm currently playing in a grand campaign in V2 (started in eu3, playing through to Darkest Hour) as Spain. I control the entire southern half of North America, all of Central America, and Peru. I have most of the SA countries sphered plus all of the Caribbean and Morocco.
My dilemma is that while I have heavily industrialized the Iberian, my industry simply isn't keeping up with most of the other major European powers, which is problematic since an alliance between a new Roman empire (all of eastern Med. controlled or vassaled) and Germany (quickly devouring basically all of France) is looking towards me and I need to seriously increase my development. I'm constantly growing my military as my limit grows but my industry seems to be stalling. The best solution I can think of to grow my industry is to get some states developed in the Americas, since I have two in Peru and big Castillian majorities in Texas/Florida...but I can't seem to finish the process or expand it to any other areas.
So basically...how can I either a) really speed up my industry growth (Under laissez-faire) or b)fast-track colonial state growth in the Americas? Or at least how can I figure out what's limiting my industrial growth? I have been NF'ing clerks/capitalists since I seem to have enough craftsmen.
I remember that the only fast industrial growth I had was the result of a fuckton of capitalists just constantly building factories.
Clerk NF is a waste. Your artisans will naturally promote to clerks on their own. Just set your rich taxes really low and put Capitalist NFs in your high populated regions.
It also helps if you have got around to researching the input/output tech lines, they are very important for your industry to fully prosper.
Yeah i've got pretty much as high as possible indus./commerce line techs. And for me it seems like I literally had no clerks until I started NF'ing them...matter of fact, my economy and industry sucked overall, but when I started influencing clerks and getting them in factories my economy started skyrocketing.
Does anyone have the Modern Day mod for Darkest Hour? I can't seem to get Part One of the download to work :/
