I played it a while ago and I'm having trouble finding it on the forums. There's a chance it's no longer being updated. If you want Broken Kingdoms it can be found here
I did download Broken Kingdoms. Not too sure how I feel about it, though, what with the Fatimids still being all powerful as fuck. [editline]18th October 2012[/editline]
I did download Broken Kingdoms. Watching this in observe is the most amazing thing that I've ever seen in the game.
So retinues are fucking awesome. Against a lower numbered opponent, they'll lose like 5 guys. Still, if they're outnumbered by a thousand, they'll not really manage to win. They're amazing fighters, but you have to bolster them up with levies if you're going to invade somewhere. [editline]18th October 2012[/editline] Kinda confused by the way it works though, since it says like 6k people in the retinue, but I only have 3500.
Can anyone recommend me an interesting country to play as in HoI3? I played it a while ago and just got back, really don't have a mind to play a country I've already played, which are: Germany, France, UK, Japan, US, Russia, Italy. Yeah, basically the major axis and allied countries. It'll be cool if it's like, an easy country from the start with some good potential later on, where I cool remember how everything works in the game, like Belgium in Vicky2, an Ireland independent or Croatia in CK2, or any major European in EU3.

Thanks, I'll try those two. Would you also recommend starting at the earliest possible date? I hate starting on later dates in PI games, feels like you're missing out on stuff, or, say if you play with Germany from 1938, then you'd play with a weaker one if you'd start from 1936 and made better decisions, etc. I guess that Nationalist China is interesting right from the start, so I'll start with them first and check Turkey out later on.
I'm at it again, but not as a silly WW2, 1945, Europe is free from German Control, all Germany owns is 2 Greek islands. Czechoslovakia and Norway are split in two by the allies and Soviets. In the pacific Japan and their puppets are still fighting in China. The Spanish civil war is a moderately good challenge to fight.

I married the Duchies of Munster to start expanding into Ireland, I had a falsified claim on Leinster and I used that to start my expansion. No cheats used, I just assassinated her once she gave birth to a son and I then offered vassalization. [editline]18th October 2012[/editline] I really fucking love how you have a claim to nearly all of the land rome occupied. I haven't noticed a claim to Northern Africa, but you can just engage in holy wars since they're pushover's besides the mors.
The problem for me is i get reduced to a sack of broken shit by my vassals as soon as i die. about 10 factions form and there is nothing i can do but wait for my fate.
What I've done is hopefully minimalize that whole fracturing through granting my first son the kingdom of ireland. With that, he won't have short rule by the time my main character dies, and my second or third son(Second son just died of typhus rip) has control of southern Italy. I've got a stable place and I've been keeping my vassals weak to prevent such a crash. Keeping your vassals weak is honestly the most helpful thing I ever learned about this game. [editline]18th October 2012[/editline] And those who revolt, you have to show them your iron fist and have a grasp on their necks.
uhh, that was weird, US Nuked Japan in '47, Japan surrendered which also caused the allies to make peace with Germany so allies left Germany (still National Socialist BTW). But the peace was only between the Allies and Germany, not the Soviet Union and Germany, so as soon as the peace was made, the Union bulldozed their way through Germany. [editline]18th October 2012[/editline] No-one seems to be able to invade the two Greek islands that Germany controls. Even as Greece I can't demand them back. It says Germany 'has taken them from their legal owner', but the only people at war with Germany are the Communists, Greece is part of the Allies.

I just boated them across using the Italian fleet and I conquered half of wales within two months. Distributing it between my nephews, making sure that they have counties in different duchies. If you're a duke or a count, leading troops is fine, but I really don't recommend it unless it's a high value, and you're playing a mod like Prince and the thane, or Game of Thrones. Nothings more annoying than having a shattered kingdom because of a war that killed your leader.
It's funny in CK2 when Norway conquers England (and also gets Normandy) and then proceeds to blob the fuck out of France, Sweden, Iberia and the rest of Britannia.
Retainers are just amazing. They gain back their troops really fast, and they're cheaper than mercenaries.

I once had a guy die abroad because of this, I was very annoyed.

Try taking over the South American mainland as an axis member and defend yourself from the USA ( And eventually help the germans taking over the US when they do )

It's part of the Legacy of Rome expansion.
dangit I still don't got the first one paradox
Playing as Muslims is nothing special. It's dealing with revolts and constantly getting crusaded.

The families of France and Castille were married together for about 100 years, with Castille gaining most of Spain. And then a few people died at once and France got it all. All I'm doing at the moment is trying to rid myself of the two remaining English heirs to stop them from starting factions.
Doing Japan in Vicky 1. Got to 1851, so far the Dutch and Americans have been giving me tech and I have started to industrialize. Bought Sakhalin and Okinawa off the Chinese and brought in a National Healthcare system. Population growth is starting to worry me, so I resolved to literally double the number of people employed in industry and double liquor and glass production. Ended up with a grain deficit and lack of coal. Introducing new techs to boost coal and grain production as I have to import them now.

Good news, everyone. Turns out there is a mod that makes all counties independent. It also gives every county a unique culture and religion and dynasty.
Fucking Brittany, man.
I know, I still have no idea how that happened. It was all spain, then france then boom britanny pops up in the middle.
As we all know, France is very accepting of Muslims and they didn't mind being under the crown :v:

They produce shittons of natural resources.
Is the prince and the thane mod good for ck2?
yeah
Nationalist China and Turkey are very fun to play as, since you can pretty much join all 3 factions if you want.
So following your advice I tried Nationalist China, everything seemed to go well, I was just about to start a war against one of the Chinese minors to expand my territory, and then Japan attacked me, and they utterly owned me. So I've tried playing as Japan, I built up my forces and when the diplomatic option to start a war against nationalist china and Shanxi came up, I did it and quickly took them over. I also declared war on a couple other chinese minors, with the intent of gobbling them all up, but then I joined the axis and Germany asked me to help them against the US, UK and france, so I've accepted. I'm still not that good at managing maritime warfare, so I just chose to automate the "Japanese homeguard theatre" (forgot what it's called) to attacking mode and specified some island areas controlled by the British and Americans (specifically the Phillipines, Hawaii, and yeah pretty much everything else between them). Everything went smooth at first, I knew such a war was comping so I made a couple of Marine divisions and landing craft ships, and as expected the AI knew to use them in the Phillipines and it did really good, however, it just won't attack anything else. I've decided to try and un-automate it so I could control a few paratrooper divisions along with transport planes of course, and ordered them to attack Hawaii, however, it seems like they won't do it because the planes are out of supply or something? So to sum up: How do I manage my supplies to be better able to wage war in far-away places? Any other related tips will be welcome.
