Just roll like 1930s japan and take over China. They produce shittons of natural resources.
Chinas a fucking beast to handle. I played China once and gave up in the 1890s when my industrial revolution had reached the stage of impossibility to manage.

Every few months I'd have to pause the game, open up Beijing's factory menu, and just go down the list pressing expand on every single one.

The families of France and Castille were married together for about 100 years, with Castille gaining most of Spain. And then a few people died at once and France got it all. All I'm doing at the moment is trying to rid myself of the two remaining English heirs to stop them from starting factions.
So how did you work your marriages to get England? or did you just kill stuff reaaally good?
England is really easy to take over if you know what you're doing. They have so many fucking civil wars. [editline]19th October 2012[/editline] I've expanded the byzantine empire to the Baltic sea, I noticed that I could offer vassalization to several novograd grand duchies and I then created the kingdom of Rus and Ruthenium, then offered vassalization to Galich and such. Took around ten years, but now I've probably trippled the landmass of the empire and I have greatly increased my possible levy by about 15k. Soon the Roman empire will descend upon it's former capital. [editline]19th October 2012[/editline] I'll upload pics in a little. Have been playing without steam interface due to network errors.
Who said playing as some irish county was easy. I was doing sort of well (as Ulain I think it was called, the one northeast). Conquered Tyrone, made some marriages which would eventually heir me more counties, became the duke of Ulain, and became an ally of Scotland, which seemed like a big bully at the time. Then, suddenly, The child king of Scotland dies, I lose my alliance and a new king inherites the kingdom. Well that's not so great news, but nothing alarming. SUDDENLY, the new king, who was called King James the Lame (fitting title) attacks me, a little irish duchy, and absolutely rapes me with 3000 men while I could barely get 255 plus 1000 mercenaries, which got obliterated. None of my allies helped me too. It really pissed me off, he had no claims on me as far as I know, and he hadn't proclaimed Britania yet, he was just a Scottish king. What county or duchy you lot recommend playing as? Maybe some especific Irish county?
Southern Ireland is a safer bet. Scotland has claims on northeast ireland for some reason. [editline]19th October 2012[/editline] So as the Byzantines, I had to keep killing my sons as they were born, because for some reason, the younger sons would inherit the Empire, and nothing else. Would lead to fucking wars and I don't want to deal with dismantling the Goddamn empire to keep the throne.
So how did you work your marriages to get England? or did you just kill stuff reaaally good?
I used an invasion CB from the pope to invade. But I did it just after a faction removed the king from power and put the count of essex on the throne, so their levies were depleted and resistance was weak. I have had games as an Irish count where Scotland has got ulster which can make things difficult. I also had slight trouble getting Desmond to be part of Ireland, I couldn't attack because he was allied with Scotland and Castille.
Yeah. Scotland has a claim on Ulster. [editline]19th October 2012[/editline] Prince and the Thane ireland is fucking hard and takes a shitton of time, compared to the original game. They specifically fixed up the 2 territory duchies and such.

bought the vicky pack (vicky i + ii) and loving them both on steam, althrough vicky i is much more harder than ii and it takes a fair bit of effort to get used to etc but it's very rewarding to play imo is darkest hour worth it? i've heard it's THE title for anyone wanting to get into hoi as long as you don't mind the europa engine; i'll probably get it once i scrounge up 10 dollars
Good news, everyone. Turns out there is a mod that makes all counties independent. It also gives every county a unique culture and religion and dynasty.
Ah, that. I had looked at it briefly, but the unique cultures and those things didn't really interest me, to be honest. I'll give it a go nevertheless. Edit: Except the Dropbox link ISN'T WORKING.

Alliances aren't worth it short term or long term, since the kingdom in question eventually gets a throne CB on you in the future.
Okay I need some more help. This time I restarted as Dublin, and I did what some guides tell you, inprison your barons, steal their titles and that stuff. Now I wanted to give away back the titles, and gave them to 2 foreigners I invited to my court. Now the title of the city of Dublin is under some guy I don't even know from Brittany, who's not on my court. What happened? How can I get back the city of Dublin? I already tried assassination but he just got replaced. I tried matrilnial but the new guy doesn't want. Help.
Alliances are good depending on the circumstances. As the Byzantines, I've had an alliance with the English for several Generations and I help them out from my Ireland colony, and they help me out when I get attacked by raging Sunni's. It all really depends on how the game decides to act things out. I married my wife Matrinally to a swedish pretender and I might launch an attack at Sweden for the throne now that I connect to the Baltic sea. Gonna wait a while so that I have a large amount of Russian and Irish levies, then going to see if I can get an alliance with the danes or something.

Holy shit, I just realised my one and only grandson is a scrawny weak raging faggot. So he will probably have a really hard time having descendency. I tried plotting against my son's wife to kill her because she's 67 and I doubt they'll have more babies, but she usurped some throne and now she's a duchess and no one wants to plot against her.
How do you inherit other thrones? My strengths seem to lay in having a comical number of children rather than being good at anything else, so marriage and family management seem to be the best ways to get lods of eland

In a couple of generations congratulations you've got land.
On CK2 is there any way to press all ducal claims at once. I've just created the Empire of Britannia which has given me claims on all the counties in Scotland but not the Kingdom of Scotland. It also won't let me press all the county claims at once. I really don't want to have to get one county at a time and wait 10 years between each one...
I started playing hearts of iron 2 and I have no idea what I'm doing. I had to ask for help to do the bloody tutorial because the game forget to tell me I had to use my ships to attack groudn troops. [editline]20th October 2012[/editline] i was told to start as teh USSr but that's way too much for me to manage, I think I'll start as a small nation outside of war to get the feel for the game. Maybe portugal or mexico.

I made this mistake and painstakingly invaded and conquered all of Sweden, and then Scotland decided it'd be a good time to pick on me as I was occupied.

You can press all of your own claims at once and once you have enough to take the Kingdom of Scotland, they should dissolve into Dukedoms and you can take them out easier. Maybe try assassinating the King or starting a war just before your char changes if that's an option. Treaties are between characters and you can wage war on their heir straight after you finish a war with them.

To combat it, look to the heir you want, click them and click "award honorary titles" and then give them the title "Despot".

You are safe from attack, and it gets you used to co-ordinating ground, air, and sea forces for campaigns.
This event makes the orthodox church too powerful. Oh well, plenty of allies, ruined my relationship with France though due to the King of France staying Catholic. I want there to be a Pagan DLC where everything as a Pagan is fleshed out and functional. I want to crusade against the christians with Thor and Odin by my side ;__;
I can bet one of the future DLCs they'll work on will be a pagan expansion, it's inevitable.
I beat my record in Vicky 2 for uniting Germany as Austria, getting it done in 1862. However, I just noticed in 1894 that my infamy is 50 and I haven't gotten any infamy gains since I formed Germany. :v:
