Opinion of Renly: ++++
Desires better Alliance:-----
Base Reluctance:--
How can I get these last two up?
You cannot improve Base Reluctance (this is a fixed penalty) nor can you really hope to improve the other one. The only way to improve 'Desires better Alliance' is to move up a title tier (ie from Count to Duke) AFAIK.
Your best bet would be to raise his opinion of you even more (if you can).

The Empire of Mexico sounds scary.
any tips on how to get into vic 2?
The Empire of Mexico sounds scary.
Yeah the US was quaking in its boots as it marched straight down to Mexico City with no resistance in my game. I really don't know what causes Mexico change to Empire of Mexico, but it doesn't seem to change its strength.
Pretty sure Mexico changes into Empire of Mexico when its government is a monarchy.

Read the tutorials and play the USA with the help of this
The USA is unique in that it's the only GP that starts separated from all other GPs (Aside from Canada, but that's not an issue) and has the option for an immediate, easy war. Austria is also pretty easy, since it's just a powerhouse and can ally France day 1)

There's a decision in Mexico to restore the Mexican Empire and get a monarch. It corresponds to real life mexico inviting Maximilian of Habsburg to be Emperor in one of the weirdest moves ever.
Explained in Hark, a Vagrant

Okay I have to admit Electors are genuinely retarded sometimes.
They would rather choose a 78 year old aunt with cringe-worthy stats over my daughter, who has stats that's already better than hers, and she's only 7!

http://www.harkavagrant.com/index.php?id=309
They actually don't. I believe it only happens when Mexico turns into a monarchy via rebels(?). When I played them the only thing I got were a Diaz event chain that spiked up MIL. I only speak for vanilla AHD so ofc it might be different in mods or something .
tried my hardest to play as Georgia in CK2. did fairly well for myself, but the godawful Khans above me just buttfucked me into oblivion. also the Seljuk's below me DEMOLISHED the Byzantine empire and then decided to destroy me.
The Byzantines restarted their empire by taking over Serbia and pushing the Seljuk's (and the Fatmids who joined in too) back into Anatolia.
I just love it when factions form declaring me an imposter to the Monarchy, when I'm a direct descendant of the first ruler, whereas they'd rather crown some old fart that's so far out in the dynasty that he's barely even classified as a close family member.
And then all my vassals revolt.
At once.
They feel you're not treating them well, so they're working to install a ruler more amenable to their interests.
Simple as that.
As a humble slave, I do as instructed.
^Thanks to krinen so this doesn't automerge
I am trying to marry a dynasty member into the hands of an enemy duke so his children will become my vassals. The duke is the vassal to a king. I am also a king.
My ruler has a half-brother (dynastic) who I have married to a female suitably down the line of succession. I then killed all the other heirs before her. Now, upon having children, they became vassals of my enemy. Okay, i said. I went back, gave the half-brother a county before they had children. No dice. The bro dies, the children rule and then a little while later become vassals of the other king (I think when their mother died and they got the duke title passed down they became their vassals). How can I use my half-brother to usurp that duchy title? Do I need to use a closer family title? Does my half-brother need a duchy to have the children remain as my vassal?
Playing as Germany in HoI3 is extremely easy. As long as you blitz through poland before it's independence is guaranteed, and if you can keep Italy and Japan on a leash, the Soviet Union is a cakewalk.
Once you're through, march your armies back to the west and attack the French.

For whatever strange reason, I tend to run out of manpower even after encircling 2/3s of the Russian army. After that, the Russian army...seemingly magically disappears.

Always rely on Japan to take Vladivistok and their eastern territories, they get somewhat distracted and strand their armies on the Urals.
Well, here is the (near) final result of my first full playthrough of a CK game. I started as Desmond, a single county in southern ireland. Without inheriting or hell, even understanding the complexities of the inheritance system, I got here. Mostly through conquest.

I think my next game I'll start somewhere a little more populated (Germany!), and might try the mod that gets rid of all the kings.
Try to play with Prince and the Thane mod.
And when you play Germany, you have to press Y, or go to Direct vassal mode.
Ruh-roh, the mongols ransacked Jerusalem while a Crusade for it was going on. This won't end very well at all.
Also Prince and the Thane is good, has a fuck load of buildings and shit that overwhelmed me though.
I can't seem to get into HoI3 at all once since I played Darkest Hour. Darkest Hour just seems to be a better game in every way. Also Germany.

The buildings are easy and normally fall under some parameters that the game will tell you. Like needing to build up the wall and such. I like it better than the vanilla game just saying "YOU AINT GOT NO CASTLE INFRASTRUCTURE SON"
Playing Vicky 2 again, only thing I changed was make America an Absolute Monarchy, lasted about 10 years because rebels forced it into a Constitutional Monarchy, now the Civil War just started

Civil war ended 3 years later with a truce, America is still at war with the UK over New England though
[editline]30th October 2012[/editline]
Welp, the US losing the war with the CSA and England caused the 'disgruntled states' event in NNM which makes the states gain cores, New Jersey is rebelling while US is at war with Mexico to take California.
[editline]30th October 2012[/editline]
Oh jeeze now the CSA declared war on America again, the Americans are getting their asses kicked.

Ohio just annexed Michigan, this is getting weirder and weirder
The buildings are easy and normally fall under some parameters that the game will tell you. Like needing to build up the wall and such. I like the simplicity of Vanilla's because it's easier for me to consolidate my demense buildings without having to worry about the several dozen other buildings that I know I'll need to build later on. I'm fine with the whole "Infrastructure level x needed" deal. It just means I can focus on expanding upon other building types and buildings in other counties.
I like everything else the mod has to offer, the climate effect on taxes are especially nice. It's just the overload of buildings that put me off from playing it.
Fear Ohio, they almost occupied all of Canada trying to take New England from them

While I was focusing on the Americas, some how the UK lost their Monarchy and became Great Britain.
[editline]30th October 2012[/editline]
Ohio just won a war against the US nabbed them New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Tahiti, also Canada took New York, shortly after Ohio asked Canada if they could become a province, Canada said yes and annexed them.
Scandinavia just formed in 1925, first time I've seen the AI do it.
Finally (for real) finished my desmond to britannia game. State of Europe at the end:

Final score was 64049.
Any real reason why japan is such a fucknugget in HoI3?
They have WAY too much Military power.
What is wrong with that HRE? Dividing up France, losing most of Italy to the Byzantines and holding Benghazi of all places.
And is that Aquitaine in West Sahara? What the hell happened?
What is wrong with that HRE? Dividing up France, losing most of Italy to the Byzantines and holding Benghazi of all places.

France was eaten by the muslims in like 1200. We only recently reclaimed most of it (I helped, as you can see :v:).
Bryzantines? They never came into conflict with the HRE, which was content to hold in italy and expand westward. The HRE just recently lost all that area in its center due to a successful independence movement. Dunno what'd happen if I gave it more time.
Aquitaine?
I have no fucking clue. I think the king of aquitaine is part of a recent rebellion against the HRE, and he inherited HRE lands in africa. HRE was crusadin' all over the place.
Playing as the Byzantines is really fucking easy if youre patient and quick with your forces. Italy always has independence wars and you can sweep in and off the bat, take southern italy, and any other state that rebels. It's easy since they rebel individually and not as a united cause.
[editline]31st October 2012[/editline]
When playing as the Byzanines, i never really expanded eastward, except to take holy centers. I would wage war on rebeling vassals, but other than that, I really didn't feel like pissing the muslims off. I fought for Antioch while the catholics fought for jerusalem, (conviently occupying the surrounding area except for the holy city, england won with the most contributions and they were my ally) and then took jerusalem. I made sure to maintain an alliance with England throughout the generations and they really help out.
General tip of advice is to never ally yourself with a spanish crown, unless there is a fully catholic spain. Never become dependent on allies and instead, only use them to bolster your forces.
Learn to speak eight languages, etc etc.
[editline]31st October 2012[/editline]
I think that my next game will be as an eastern spanish throne, taking the eastern part quickly and trying to establish a foothold on Italy as a new capital.
