It was more of a "wow" than "are you joking".
Fun fact: I started that game as the backwater count of casserone. My 2nd generation became duke of two places (by accident), and my third became king of france (by accident).

Despite being old and tired, Emperor Aymar decided he'd rather live to be 197 than let his perfect son Joan rule Francia.
200 vassals. And I thought I'm going overboard with 50.
Did I mention the feasts are hectic? People just start throwing up and dueling everywhere, and I start to try to shove foot down guests' throats and they're all like "No!" and we get pissed at each other!

What? You've never been to a 200 man feast? That's what every wedding party is like for me. :v:
I like it when the duchy of Castille splits from the kingdom of Castille, causing there to be two separate instances of Castille next to each other.
I just had the quickest game of CK2 ever.
Knew I wanted to play an Italian count so I checked the HRE, found a county at Lucca. Selected it, started game. Guy's an old geezer - 46 - and no heir. Okay, well shit. I loaded up the marriages window, chose a 16 year old with lustful, and married her. As soon as I unpaused I got an event.

I'm thinking of starting a EU3 game with FOW turned off so the AI can see everything. It makes for interesting colonies in the Americas once they can get there.
I just wish EU3 had a hands off mode, whats a good minor country to be in EU3, where I don't need to worry about people trying to conquer me?

If you're doing it with TI disabled. I'd suggest something like Maldives or Japan (The country, not the individual ones). I did a game like that, played as Maldives and let the Golden Horde annex everything. Then the rebels came and my Europe ended up looking like this:

That's a frightening number of roughly equally sized nations. And fairly realistic too.
It's learning.

That was just the start... Several years later:

Damn this seems to be a recurring problem. I betrothed my daughter matrilinearally to a dude, now he's come of age... but the ruler "won't accept my offer" so I can't send it. She can't marry anyone else until the betrothal is broken, either, which means *I* have to take a penalty for him refusing to marry those who are supposed to be married!
[editline]10th November 2012[/editline]
Wow now he's spamming me with offers to marry them. I saved and accepted, just to check... He's offering a REGULAR marriage. This is not what I fucking agreed to. There's no indication what type of marriage someone is proposing, either, in that popup. Annoying.
Whenever someone proposes a marriage, it's always going to be a regular marriage (0r matr if yours is a dude). Just a FYI.
[editline]10th November 2012[/editline]
Is there a reason why he won't accept the betrothal? Too high in the line of succession?
Yeah it was sometimes too high in the line of succession and sometimes they just don't wanna give the dude up. It's pretty BS because they were promised to be married.
Betrothal isn't a guarantee either. If your daughters gets a matrineal betrothal to a son and his older brothers die leaving him higher in the succession, he'll either call the marriage off or demand it go regular.
So if you're doing that, make sure you get them married BEFORE you make sure his older brothers tragically die. :v:
I didn't even have a chance to kill off all his brothers and sisters though, they just died normally :(
achtung panzer: kharkov 1943 is pretty great
this game wasn't developed by paradox, but it was was published by paradox
the detail in it is mind-boggling and the in-game atmosphere is extremely thick

I never managed to get past the ugly and confusing strategic map. I tried again recently and couldn't even get it to run, so.

In other news, the Great Khagan is Pope's butt buddy and Europe's Number 2 best leader, I'm being trained how to fight by a Japanese Samurai that insists on calling me "Petar-San", and for some reason I can't change the imperial laws.

Yeah it's pretty fun for a while. Note worthy feature is when you're fighting over old battlefields and the wrecks of vehicles are still there.
Countries in EU3 can form in the weirdest places, I cheated and had Great Britain annex Spain, then Brazil and Peru rebelled in Spain. Canada was formed out of the Bahamas.
I bought CK:II and have no idea what to do. Any tips to start up? I want to like it but its so damm complicated.

First thing, make sure you are married and have a decent heir. Keeping your dynasty going is always the number one priority. Get a young wife and the lustful trait is always good for more kids.
Next you might want to expand. If you have a county, look at what Dukedom it is in and aim for half the provinces so you can either create or usurp it, Ireland is a great starter because of this. You expand and take counties by going to your court and getting your chancellor to fabricate a claim, he will be your best friend. Building in holdings is important for soldiers and income, select a county and then click on the castle at the top, more levy soldiers are great.
Play as Ireland and get a feel for it, maybe use some cheats for cash is you find yourself in a tight position. Explore the menus and try things, if you have an questions then ask here, we're happy to help.

I'll try it out. I'm playing as Carl Gustav of Sweden at the moment.

Wait...Samurai? Are you playing a mod?
No, it's one of the martial skill event chains introduced in the newest patch.
