I'm betting someone will make an endless mode when mod tools are released.
I refuse to get this game because of the eyebrows, surely I can't be the only one?
I refuse to get this game because of the eyebrows, surely I can't be the only one?
Hey, look at this game, there's a huge thread on Facepunch full of people who are calling it their favorite indie game of all time and absolutely addicting, yet you don't want to spend five dollars because you can't stand his eyebrows.Sir, you have some problems.
Guys, I have 1Hp and have acid trap effect on me. Need 8HP desperately. Does anyone know the effect of the Wand of Helping Hand.
According to the wiki, the handy wands spell is Psychokinetic Shove.

You need a zodiac wand or a potion.
How do you get artifacts that are surrounded completely by water?
How do you get artifacts that are surrounded completely by water?
Teleport or push it.
I really wish warrior builds were more viable. It's pretty much impossible to get by in this game on brute force alone. Leveling up skills like swords, maces, etc just gives you minimal stat boosts and one or two sometimes-helpful abilities, but the magic skill trees give you devastating shit that's way more practical.
A big thing that bugs me is that starting a warrior-type character (especially on Rogue) is 99% a matter of luck. If you kick down the first door, and there's more than two enemies inside, you've pretty much just signed your own death warrant. There's seriously nothing you can do in that situation except try to run away to a less-dangerous room.
Everything hinges on finding helpful equipment in the first couple rooms, and not encountering too many enemies.

That's true for any character. Roguelikes are heavily based on bullshit, that's why Losing Is Fun!
Also I disagree. Fully half of the characters I've gotten past Floor 1 have been warriors. The trick is to get plenty of weapon skills so you can monopolize any enchanted weapons you find.

Thanks !~
When you guys tell me how far you've gotten, be sure to mention difficulty. I mean, I can get past floor 1 (and generally floor 2) pretty consistently on Going Rogue, regardless of character build. I just feel like I have a lot fewer strategic options when playing a warrior build. The exception may be maces, since you get that skill that knocks enemies back, and can exploit it by running away until it cools down. It's also very helpful for monster zoos (which, more than anything, will be the thing that puts your build to the test), as you can go near a door, knock the enemies back, then close the door, wait for the skill to cool down, open the door and repeat
HOLY FUCKING SHIT! I SURVIVED! Had 1 HP, with two-turn acid trap on me, ate the fell trufle, then drank the Hypoborean Potion (to max out any resistances I know of) and somehow I'm still alive... Although I've been healing from food all the time. But acid does like 3 damage...

Medium always with permadeath
You should always play the game with permadeath, its just how its mean to be played.
Played some more, ran into a zoo, survived and found these nice two items. Also, I'm probably late.

Vampire Warriors kick ass in medium difficulty. Even with a mediocre weapon and gear, you can go pretty far. Just build yourself like a tank. Your vampire lifesteal will pretty much work like a constant food effect while you are fighting, and when you're out of combat you can eat corpses for health.
I had a character with mostly selfmade gear, nothing special, and he was pretty much immune to some types of damage.
My current cookie cutter build:
Swords Skill (pretty much interchangable for any other weapon skill, I guess)
Armor skill (the deeper skills are amazing, add a lot of health procs)
Smithing (make your own stuff, lots of health from the burliness points)
Vampirism (passive life leech, eat corpses)
Berserker (tree with nice buff procs)
Perceptions (helps with traps, level 5 is hell with a low vision rate)
Assassination (the first, free skill is so useful. The rest is good too)
Got me to level 7 before I fucked up.
I always pick Swords-Axes-Maces and Dual-Wielding for maximum fightingness.
No point picking more than two melee weapon classes.

Hell no. Roguelikes are about as far from 'bullshit' difficulty as you can get. Well, good roguelikes, at least. They're easily the most 'fair' games ever -- generally speaking, there's almost no situation you can't get out of with a little smart playing. (That doesn't quite apply for this particular game, but that's the general rule of thumb for roguelikes.)

My build is:
Swords Skill
Master of Arms
Shield Skill
Vampirism
Perception
Smithing
Tinkering
and I am level 14, my (Warrior Rogue) bars are pretty equal, so it makes me a bard.
I don't consume food or mana potions.

Yeah, no. Pretty much every roguelike has something that's purely luck-based that can fucking kill you. Be it monster zoos, fountains full of acid, or Amulets of Strangulation.
Auuuuuugh lost my best character by stepping on an acid trap immediately after clearing a monster zoo in Level 3. Goodbye, Fist McGee the Wizard.
Auuuuuugh lost my best character by stepping on an acid trap immediately after clearing a monster zoo in Level 3. Goodbye, Fist McGee the Wizard.
I know your pain. Finally got to level 3, encountered a zoo, tried to teleport away, teleported into the zoo and was devoured.
I wish those potions of spatial instability had a wider range. I try to use one to get away from monsters, and it just teleports me like 2 spaces away from where I am, so I immediately get killed anyway.
It should send you to any random square on the floor. Then again, it could really suck if you landed on one of those places surrounded by water and don't have another potion.

Occasionally I'll get sent to the other side of a door, usually I move 3-5 cells.
Is there a way to increase your tinkering or alchemy or smithing if you didn't select it as a primary skill? Basically what I'm trying to say is if it's not my main skill is the item useless to me?
