How do I install mods? That Atheist Monk will be the first one I'm going to try.
Put them in your "My Documents/Gaslamp Games/Dungeons of Dredmor/mods/" folder ( you might have to create it first ) and then when you start the game hit "Mods" and check it off.
Lost a 5 hour run. Damn you compulsion to use permadeath!
There's really no point in playing without permadeath on, in my opinion. Ruins the whole experience.
There's really no point in playing without permadeath on, in my opinion. Ruins the whole experience.
Yeah I'd say so too.
There's really no point in playing without permadeath on, in my opinion. Ruins the whole experience.
Turning permadeath off is for pussies.
Playing with permadeath is essential for two reasons, one of which is probably a terrible reason, but whatever. 1. EVERY time you die, your highscore gets saved and put on the high score gravestone. So every time your level 30 axe-toting vegan demon pirate dies, his score at that moment is saved and eventually, it's nothing but that guy's highscores. With permadeath, only one is saved, and you can actually see your progress . 2. Greater feeling of accomplishment once you do finally finish the game with permadeath on. It's how roguelikes are meant to be played. It's more tense, and you have to be way more careful, lest you step on an acid bolt trap on level 1 and get insta-deadified (protip - before you have a high trap sight rating or high health and a way to heal yourself reliably, walk around using only the mouse. You will never step on a trap, because when you click on a trap spot, the game assumes you're trying to disarm it. It's slower than wasd, but a hell of a lot safer)
Turning permadeath off is for pussies.
it makes me so scared while playing, once I escaped an ambush with 2 health.
There's really no point in playing without permadeath on, in my opinion. Ruins the whole experience.
It only makes sense if this is your first play or you never played roguelikes before
I mainly play with permadeath off just to use the save and continue function. Oh cool I just found 2 Katanas what luck, I'll be invinc-- crash crash crash crash crash.

I've always had permadeath on, as far as I'm concerned its the way the game is meant to be played, plus if I turn it off I'd just feel like I'm cheating.
That Clockwork Knight mod seems really underpowered.
Anyone else played around with the "Cooliomancy" mod? It's pretty fun.
That Clockwork Knight mod seems really underpowered.
It kind of is, at first. It has a crapload of utility skills, which are very useful. The tech plunder is hella useful if you have smithing and tinkering. Eruption Slam is also pretty great.
It pisses me off when I spend so much time in one character and get fucked in the ass of the second floor. [editline]15th January 2012[/editline]
That Clockwork Knight mod seems really underpowered.
Where can I find this?
Uhh, I don't see how you can spend a lot of time on a character and only be on the second floor.

Since that was the first place you entered on the second floor, you should be able to clear the rest of it without having to go through the zoo.
Uhh, I don't see how you can spend a lot of time on a character and only be on the second floor.
Probably plays like I do. Spend excessive amounts of time on the first floor to clear it 100%, and have great armor and weapons. Then head down the stairs and repeat. I've played for about 3 hours on one character, and I'm on Level 3.
I'm thinking of making a few mods, but I am so bad at balancing...Does anyone have any ideas?
Long cooldowns, lots of mana, (do it rarely) negative attributes, takes many points to become useful, works only on certain enemies. This kind of ideas?
Make a space marine skillset. Warhammer 40K style.
I'm thinking of making a few mods, but I am so bad at balancing...Does anyone have any ideas?
What I usually do for balancing is compare to the damage/utility/whatever to the nearest comparable skill already in the game.
Make a space marine skillset. Warhammer 40K style.
That is tempting now, but I'm only getting item ideas, rather than skill ideas. Melta Crossbow anyone? :v:
I'm thinking of making a few mods, but I am so bad at balancing...Does anyone have any ideas?
How about "Killosophy", with skills like, "Deathcartes: I think, therefore you die"
Make a space marine skillset. Warhammer 40K style.
Sent to cleanse the dungeon of heretical filth you are one of the bravest and strongest warriors in the land. Praise be to the Immortal Diggle God, may he guide your foot.
How do you get past Wooden Gates? There's an Unfriendly AI past one, and I want to kill it.
How do you get past Wooden Gates? There's an Unfriendly AI past one, and I want to kill it.
Well, I believe the only way to push stuff around, grates and furniture and whatnot, is with knockback attacks like Remember your Charlemagne and Psychokinetic Shove.
Well, I believe the only way to push stuff around, grates and furniture and whatnot, is with knockback attacks like Remember your Charlemagne and Psychokinetic Shove.
Would a concussion bomb do?
Would a concussion bomb do?
That pushes stuff, so I would think so. The handy wand, too. Maybe some others
Uhh, I don't see how you can spend a lot of time on a character and only be on the second floor.
I am a roguelike fan (playing every single roguelike I see) but never get past levels 3-4.The only exclusion is Nethack, because it is quite easy compared to other roguelikes I just spend a lot of time on the first floor (Maybe there is a secret room!) and then die from random stuff like: Starvation, poison, burning, debuffs, traps, angry gods Spent my whole summer on roguelikes, only got to level 4 in Stone Soup
