I finally managed to make Dungeons of Dredmor run moderately well on this laptop (it's my brother's, and he treats it like ass).
I tried the clockwork knight skill with axe, shield, master of arms and tinkering and smithing because apparently it boosts your clockwork knight skill? What does clockwork knight give you aside from the skills? I haven't noticed any bonuses, not even in the augmented limbs skill.
But I was doing really well in floor 1, and once I'm done, I'm like 'Okay, now I steal this big sexy axe from Brax, I enchant it on these 2 anvils of Krog, and then I'm outta here'. I grabbed the axe, and another sweet sword to sell later, used the rocket jump skill and 'YOU'VE STOLEN BLABLA'. Shit.
Can you still steal from Brax? I wasn't sure about using the Clockwork knight skill that pushes objects too, would've that worked? Long time since I last played.
I keep trying to get into this game and enjoy it but I can never sit down and learn how to play properly.
I'm going to try again though! This game looks like loads of fun once you get the hang of things.

You can steal from him. Teleport out of there when he blocks you or teleport him away. That or kill him.

It's easy to learn and hard to master, I've put 100 hours of play time into it and the best I've done with permadeath on is floor 12.
Main thing to keep in mind; you're supposed to die. You don't get a score at all for killing Dredmor.
Oh god. I accidentally cast a spell on the Shop keep and he got a Demon to kill me. It's funny how the smallest mistake can end you so quickly.
I've been picking No time to grind for smaller floors. Does it really matter if I chose that or not? Maybe I shouldn't seeing I want to learn to play.

Welcome to the roguelike genre

If you want to learn how to play you'd better uncheck it.
Anyone who has done duel shielding with unarmed try using mechanics? You can use the throwing buffalo technique to kick your own traps under doors. I don't know how effective it is against animal zoos but how good is mechanics?

why did i never think of this
my whole life is a joke
You can tank everything with that health though
I've been playing a fleshsmithing character, and I got all the way through most of level 4, and the whole time I feel like I'm just barely scraping by, because I just have little DoT spells and zomby-summoning which quickly became little more than walking meatshields. Their main purpose is to distract enemies while I cast fleshbore repeatedly from a safe distance. Occasionally I have to nuke an area with my poison cloud spell or a wand, and I had to use one teleportation potion when backed into a corner...
Then I accidentally went through one of those mysterious portals, and my spells killed just about everything with ease. Even shit like a magma carrot, gold golem, and two of some kind of terrifying demon that I guess hasn't been added to the wiki yet, but was practically one-shotting my zombies.
Kinda made me re-evaluate the suspense in my progress so far, since I had an easier time than my dual-shielding tank.
Oh jeez. I was doing so well through the first floor and stepped a one-way Teleporter which took me to an extremely hard dungeon. I died within two moves :v:
It's amazing how much I've learned by just playing for a couple of hours now though, I'll definitely play again and try to at least make it to the second floor.
Super duper tank seems to be the way to go but i am slowly getting bored of it. i kinda want to try and make a glass cannon but i know i will get my shit slapped real quick
So I found out that there's a certain bugged item that's been modded in that crashes my game whenever I use it. I now know this because it crashed my game halfway through the same monster zoo I crashed during before. Multiple times.

Wait, is that new dlc free or not? I saw the pop up of it and it said free somewhere.

Yep, it's a free expansion, Diggle Gods is the one you have to pay for.
How do I play it?

Check the store page for it, http://store.steampowered.com/app/98821/
So ends my most promising run. I had a 10 star Axe (Axe of the Axe Lords or something) that was also enchanted to do elemental damage. Got as far as level 5 and was 4 points shy of 150,000
skills: Assassination, Dodge, Burglary, Tinkering, Alchemy, Wandcrafting, Rogue Scientist
I found something called a "Mysterious portal", and when i entered, i was teleported to some dojo place, which had quite powerful enemies. At the end, i found a ten star mask, called "Mask of the sun god", which gave me insane stats, and made me go through the next two floors with ease.

I've gone into it too, but the enemies were less difficult than i expected and i didn't find anything. Oh well, at least on the tenth floor i found in an Evil Chest an enchanted Bolt Eruptor with +18 necromantic damage added and some other buffs.
I've been through two mysterious portals now, and neither one had the amazing equipment I keep hearing about.
The best thing I saw was a sword with 11 slashing damage, but that wasn't much help to me as a staff user/mage

A monster zoo with 4 monsters.
Mods have interesting results.
lv33 on floor 13, died being surrounded and chocked by evil potato gas.
Leveled up, maxed out smithing, crafted Scaly Haubrek of the Fish. Few rooms later, monster zoo.
Guess what I got as a reward?
A Scaly Haubrek of the Fish.
Well, on the bright side, you could sell it to Brax or, if you know Archaeology, send it to The Warehouse for XP.
Anyone looking for an excuse to try out fleshsmithing: Miasmatic Putrefaction (the last spell in the tree) absolutely decimates monster zoos. I get my zombies to hold back the horde for 3-4 turns, during which time I just toss that spell into various regions of the zoo, and as I walk away, the number of monsters will drop by 30-40.
Also, is horse armor a new item? :v:

Oh, and check this out: I just found two shops right next to each other.

What skill tree has zombies?
What skill tree has zombies?
Fleshsmithing. It's the first skill you get. Really useful on the first floor, where everything is weaker than a zombie, but after that they're basically meatshields to draw attention away from you briefly. In the past, you could only raise one at a time, but now you can have about 6-7 following you around. But I've noticed that after a certain amount of summoning, all but one of them will just vanish when you try to make more.
Also, continuing on my fleshsmithing-is-awesome campaign, I just made it to floor 7 on hard mode, and I'm pretty sure it's the first time I've done it ever. The dodging skill tree became invaluable to me, and now I hardly ever bother to summon zombies. Fleshbore has become so strong that I can pretty much just cast it once on any enemy that doesn't have tons of HP or high resistances, and it'll kill them in a couple turns.
Just finished clearing all of level 9 and cleared a monster zoo only to die to a random monster i wasn't paying attention to.
Before this build the furthest I got to was the beginning of level 4. fuck
What skill tree would be best for mana regen when minions steal most of your kills?
