Just tested Armour instability, unfortunately got to a monster zoo and died a bit due to not being prepared, which meant I was only able to test up to unstable. The item used were some gloves that I had crafted, and encrusted with Iron Spikes multiple times. At about 4 times they became slightly unstable...And didn't really notice anything odd about using them. However, at 7 times of Iron Spikes, they became Unstable, and at that point I would occasionally notice the odd random affect going off, such as thaumites, or a poison whenever I was hit, affecting the monster that hit me.
Instability can be a good thing in the right hands it seems then, I haven't really tried Encrusting so.
Communism tree is really useful. General Winter is kinda dangerous, because it killed me last time when I was on level 5.

It can also be terribly life endangering, if it gets to the right level. When I had a Highly Unstable weapon, an explosion would be created at each monster I hit, hitting me for a third of my damage each time, while with a Dangerously Unstable weapon, it was like a squid bolt hit me head on, and killed me.

I take dual wielding, sword, and mace with communism. It DOES give you two free weapons after all
If you have the Humble Bundle version you can, but then you cant have the DLC
Actually you can use the Steam version even without starting Steam or having it installed. Also, there is a linux executable in the folder.
So does anyone have an idea how to counter the enemies that make you sleep/ stun you for a few turns? It's damn imba if you suddenly lose 80hp to one monster because it can do it.
Evil clones, and whoever made them can go fuck themselves with a cactus.

They are pretty easy to beat if you keep your distance and spam them with arrows or throwable shit. Octos are worse, especially when they camp into a corner and shoot magic bullets to you.

Oh, I hadn't really tried, but simply assumed it would not work, like with most Steam games.
I opened a door on level 3, the game paused for a while, so I thought it must either be a monster zoo or it's crashed.
after about 10 seconds, I see Monster Zoo! glaring on my screen.
However, then I noticed that it was a monster zoo with 215 in it.

Wish me luck!
I made a big mistake, i created a new game to try some skills out and i named my hero like the first.
Well time to start over i guess.
I really hate when the game pauses for a bit when you open a door... Most of my deaths are from huge monster zoos on level 2...

Are you playing with the music on? I deactivated it and now I rarely get a pause when I open doors.

The music is great though.
So I open a door, and suddenly the music changes. I think "oh fuck monster zoo I haven't saved in a while I'm so screwed fuckfuckfuck" and was greeted with this.

most difficult fight of my life
Monster Zoo on floor one? Pff I can take that shit with my eyes closed at half health.
Monster Zoo on floor two? WOAH JEEZ WHY ARE THERE HUNDREDS

Generally I have fire magic and blood magic at my disposal, so between the pyre, the fireball, and the wyrmling, so in most cases I come out unscathed.
I have never been able to go a magic build in this game, as I am just assraped by the first monsters on floor one... What is a good set of skills you use?
Got the last DLC
I am leaving tomorrow though so I only have about an hour to play it left

Wizard Law is awesome
The first skill is really useful on early levels, since you can get all the artifact weapons easily

Blood Magic
Magic Training
Ley Walker
Promethean Magic
Archaeology
Golemancy or Wizard Law
and
Mathemagic or Psionics
The first two levels will be tough, but as soon as your character hits level 3, grab wyrmling and destroy. Then from there, level fire magic up to Gog's tactical pyre, then it is up to you for the next few levels.
Mathemagic is a great top end skill, and psionics can help in a pinch due to nerve staple.
When you begin, pick your battles and make use of dredmor statues as much as possible, so you can hit 3 early and get the wyrmling. Said wyrmling should be able to carry you to at least floor 5.
Also, when approaching monster zoos, just keep your distance, summon the wyrmling and spam fireball.
Edit: I am seriously irritated.
I had an excellent character going, and now whenever I try to exit the wizardland I am in, my game crashes. There is no way out it seems.
goodbye cagey magey.

I seem to be getting it a lot more since I bought the DLC. So frustrated with it because on my current character I can't access the pocket dimension without crashing.
I'm still upset that I can't play my save that I had going really well. Furthest I've ever been. I can't even load my first ever save, which didn't even have any mods. The new DLC is nice and all but I just wish it didn't fuck everything over.
Yeah, it corrupted my save as well.
Kinda wish I didn't buy that new DLC. I don't even feel like playing it now.
In case someone just wants a wizardlands code (I think they work on all games, but just once), i have one in the spoiler tag

stabby the double spearman is doing well so far. really enjoying polearms combined with earth magic.
I really should come up with names for characters whenever I play. My death leaderboard is entirely Deiru...
