For maximum starvation potential, you could build a series of walls with stairways leading up to the tops, completely encircling the spawn It'd take a ton of materials to make them to be effective, but it could also take a long time to punch through, so whoever tries it first will also likely starve to death. For everyone else, they could climb to the top of the first wall only to learn too little too late that they can't quite make the jump to the top of the next wall, possibly falling to their death. If not, there's a whole new staircase waiting for them, and so on and so forth.

It's much more fun and effective to give them some hope of escape, only for them to realize too little, too late, and now being left with no hunger bars remaining, that there is none, that all the time they spent climbing their way out of spawn was a waste of effort and was all for nothing.

Failing that, your only other option would be to completely demolish the spawn within the distance one can walk without starving so that there's no seeds to be found anywhere, there's no grass for animals to spawn, and then place half-slabs or water everywhere so that not even zombies can spawn.
