2b2t success story: the story of Zorkov
Well, I started playing 2b2t once more in late March. With Game of Thrones on TV in the background, I figured I'd play during the ads. However, quickly I became completely consumed with success on 2b2t. I made it out of spawn relatively easily, as I had played here before. After, however, I didn't really know what to do. I teamed up with somebody and we, using xray, managed to gather a few stacks of fish, iron, and diamond, and make our merry way in the nether creating a nether tunnel. However, as luck would have it, Omal, whom I had just met, let slip a way of getting on top of the bedrock in the nether. With this newfound information, I made my way hundreds of thousands of blocks from spawn, and ended up at roughly 200k from spawn in both x and y (rougly 282,842 total blocks from spawn in a straight line)

I got fairly lucky collecting my 3 wither skulls in the nether- I only had to kill probably 80 or 90 skeletons total for all 3 of them. Killing the Wither was incredibly easy, too. I dug way underground, made a 3x3x1 chamber connected to a long 2x1 tunnel and spawned the Wither, ran down the tunnel while the wither exploded, ran back, then ate two enchanted golden apples and just quickly mashed my mouse to repeatedly hit it with a diamond sword. I'm nervous, however, about building a beacon, because it's exactly that... a beacon... I don't want to give away my position to anybody who is close to me. What do I do.
I might start playing again. Does the old Nodus noclip trick still work to get into the nether roof?
If not what are some other methods.
don't post them here no matter what they are, for two reasons
1. they will get fixed if we all know what they are and talk about them
2. we definitely do not need every new idiot on 2b2t running around the roof of the nether using our portals and fucking our shit up

A piston can be used to block the beacon's light, thus turning it off until you unblock it with the piston again.

Yeah it still works, there are some other methods but I just stick to the old way (ladder + fly and reconnect trick).
Using a boat and reconnecting usually works for me.

So this morning got on the server for the first time in over a year. There is a guy handing out food to like 4 other poor souls like myself. Two dude run out of a nethergate like 50-100 tiles away wielding iron swords and I'm the only one that sees them. Of coarse i fucking book it, the other guys don't see them coming until they are practically on top of them. Everyone but me is almost instantly murdered, yells in chat for a moment and respawns only to be killed again. Tears were shed. Meanwhile i had made it to the nethergate they came out of and am try and figure out what the fuck i should do. I don't see any other gates to get out, and while I'm looking about a goddamn pigman shoves me into lava. Oh yes, it's good to be back.
