You have to be within 16 blocks (or something like that) of a spawner for it to spawn mobs.

Bare minimum: Saplings (any kind), seeds, sufficient coal/charcoal to light up the bitch in case you can't find any while digging it out for what-ever reason, a bucket or two of water, and a bed.
Suggested: Above plus eggs, sugar cane, cactus, pumpkin(s), melon seeds, mushrooms, easy access to bones (skeleton spawners obviously a HUGE plus here). Could also have grass blocks (from silk touch or growing them down from the surface), but generally you should be able to build up a sufficient wheat farm to not have to worry about spawning animals.

I've got just about every type except jungle trees (will likely venture forth and attempt to find some when boats are re-enabled), and the solution to fuck-huge trees was simple:

Pros:
- Birch saplings never grow into ridiculously gigantic trees (like oak will) and will always be 1x1 trunk with height of 4-8? blocks
- They "tend to grow faster than oak trees"
- They look good?
Cons:
- Birch saplings need to spaced out by 2 blocks from other birch saplings (and 4 blocks from other sapling types) in order to grow (less dense farming than oak)

I left signs saying thanks and all that good stuff, I headed back into the nether to fast travel to around 50k out so I wouldn't get raided as much. I had to go to the store to make dinner in the middle of my journey, so what I did was block'd over to a little floating island of netherrack blocks and I dug down and put down two chests and put all my stuff in there, I placed down a [i]bed in the nether[/i], as soon as I right clicked on it

I right clicked on the bed incase if I rejoined the chunks didn't load fast enough and I fell into lava, that I would respawn on my bed.

Also try thinking about this, I forgot that beds for whatever reason EXPLODE IN THE NETHER. Think about this too, if beds didn't explode in the nether, I would have had a nice base already. Really?

What are you talking about, dunno if it was "fixed" or not but time and time again when I respawn in 2b2t I fall to far then the chunks regenerate I teleport to the top but the fall damage still happens and I die and the text says "UberMesh suicided" As if I actually fell 500 blocks. thats why I did it
and do you think this is really my fault?

Yes,beds have exploded in the nether for a long time,if anything it's your fault for not knowing about it.

I guess if you had a past experience you would attempt to be cautious... hence the desire to save your respawn point. But now you know!
Though if it's helpful to know, I logged in on 2b2t whilst the DDoS or some ridiculous lag was going on, and I managed to fall to -3k y before it finally loaded a single chunk where I was standing...
And nothing happened. It made a cracking bones noise and I did not take any damage.
Seems that perhaps there was a change made, and instead of the falling and resulting death being calculated client-side, your client now renders you as falling through the world, but once the server actually says "Excuse me here is your chunk you requested. You are not falling, and you are definitely alive still." the client will just update to that information.
For the same reason could be why you can sometimes see many mobs around you all fall into the world but "teleport" back to their original positions once the chunks are loaded. And why you hear a "damage sound" when you do fall for a bit before chunks load, but don't actually take damage.
It's speculation as to any changes in coding since I haven't decompiled any Minecraft source, but since I've played on 2b2t, I've never actually died from "lag-induced chunk-lacking" during a log in. :)
I know this is probably a bad question to ask, but anyone mind coming out to about -5000 -0 on the nether highway to bring me some food? PM or message me over steam if you want to.

I was becoming one with my brothers!
So I thought I'd go on a long treck to a certain base. After around 2 hours of travelling, in an underground tunnel deep down below in the nether, I randomly start to suffocate and am stuck in the bedrock down below (not ceiling), then I fall into the void and die.
....
Alright so I'm bored at sitting at my huge cache. I want to get involved with some Facepunchers. Is there some base I can go to? I have hundreds of thousands of diamonds and I'd be willing to bring a few stacks.
A new haven near spawn perhaps? 2k2k is all but dead.
I'm about x4000 z-3500 when will i start to see sheep?

go to around 500k, hause disabled sheep spawns until you get that far
