Does anybody know how to make exp grinders not lag at all?
I'm not sure if its a server issue or what, but as the hours go by with my mob grinder running, my game slowly starts to get choppier (starting about an hour and a half in) and I'm not sure why. In order to combat this issue, I allocated 6 gigabytes of ram to java, and also changed the amount of ram minecraft can use by editing the .exe with a hex editor as was suggested by numerous people on the forums in posts I saw in other people's threads. Ever since I have done this, however, sometime between 2 and a half to 3 and a half hours of idling, my game crashes with that "connection reset by peer: socket write error" message. Not really sure what to do at this point then, because I used to be able to idle for 4 hours no problem, it would just be really laggy. Now I can't even make it that far without some kind of error disconnecting me making me have to start over.
Any suggestions?

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, its an exp grinder so the reason its lagging is because of the massive amount of zombies sitting in front of me

If you haven't already, use minimal settings.
Download optifine and set all settings to fast.
Basically, strip down your game to minimal and face away from the mobs.
My computer is shit (normally 12 fps)
But i went AFK for 4 hours on a double zombie grinder and got minimal lag, although i did get that insane glitch where they wander around the room and aren't really there (annoying as balls)

its a pain to find someone but when you do its great.
If anything I'll be able to say it helped with my fps while idle

Every time I do they end up being assholes
the server is breaking my minecraft client and people spam im a nigger non-stop, I can't even move without lagging and dc'ing.
is this normal or can I actually move?
>mfw talking at length about my democratization term paper and people only shouting towel head every few messages instead of spamming it
Wow :saddowns:
I got griefed :v:
Just a few hours after Benjojo visited our base aswell :saddowns:
Not sure if he leaked the coordinates, indirectly or directly, but i don't really care. As long as the griefer is gone and won't come back. (which he more than likely will i reckon)
I'm logged onto my friends account right now, cleaning up the mess.
if you dont want him to comeback then dont post here saying you are rebuilding
Well i'm not rebuilding i'm going to get a bit of food then walk back to the others and then leave.
I tried to make my wheat farm "more efficient".
I wish I could play this, but with and without Optifine after a few minutes my FPS goes to 0, or 1 frame every couple seconds and minecraft eventually says it's run out of memory.
I want to play and get to my secreet goal~
I get that as well, try turning down the view distance or running fullscreen.

if you're on 64bit make sure you're running 64bit java.

still inefficient
since you can rule out the growth rate due to the way faster growth rate you can place a single spring block and surround it with a 4 block radius square of farmland, and that's the most space efficient way to farm, ruling out automated systems and multiple floors and such

Still, its better than the last one.

Try something more like this:

The dirt the wheat grows on is 8 wide by how-ever long I want it, with water on either side of it covered by stone so nothing can ever fall into it.
you guys know that it's better and faster to do alternating rows, right? makes the wheat grow much faster
you guys know that it's better and faster to do alternating rows, right? makes the wheat grow much faster
The setup I posted took no more than 20 minutes to make, and most of that was finding dirt. (I live UNDER ground in the middle of an ocean so you actually have to MINE for dirt, mind you) Each harvest yields more bread than I could possibly hope to use, enough for 5 people easily, and it's easily expandable and easy to harvest/replant.
i'm saying if you knock out a row of the wheat every other row the remaining stuff would grow faster. you can't fit the same amount in, but you get more frequent harvests.
[editline]16th April 2012[/editline]
leaving the farmland inbetween.

Frequency of harvest would have to exceed total yields from having a full field then.
double the size of the field, spend less time idling :')

Who idles wheat farms? I mine shit. :v:

All idle and no play makes Jack a dull boy!
.... Right!

The way faster growth rate this server has kind of invalidates that, it's more efficient to just plant as much as you can.
Often I find my melon farms already 1/4th replenished when i'm done harvesting them.

Do you have a pic of your melon farm?
