Honestly my favorite part on 2b2t is building a base near (maybe 3k or 5k away) and thinking of unique ways to keep it defended/defend it. Maybe have to rebuild it every once in awhile, keeps things exciting and fun. Building that far out just sounds like, to me, SP with a chat that's usually full of spam.
So, someone finally found my hideout, decided to make a dash for it along my railway, but ended up dying. Now i'm smack down in nowhere, sitting by a pond and waiting for my wheat to grow. Bit surprised it managed to hold out that long at 2k, though.

It's not a glitch - you got lucky.
It's just terrain generation between different versions, you found an area where someone portal to, walked around a bit, left through another portal, and someone else came through another portal nearby but never walked into the other area. Then someone came through at another time and generated the ocean chunks you're seeing.
It's very unlikely, but anything's possible on 2b2t.
Bases too far out are no fun while bases too close to spawn are also no fun.
I think around 6-7k is a nice place for a base.
An old Facepunch Republic fort is at 5600, 255 if I remember correctly. I think Startoad was the one in charge of it, I ran into a facepuncher on his way there and he gave me the coords. I went there but Startoad told me to go fuck myself and I left, came back a while later and it was wrecked.
2k2k is now self-sustaining, but I haven't done any work to the old ruined building yet.

I'm starting a base, but I don't have much since the last time I played on this server was probably 5 months ago. If anyone wants to join and help out pm me and I'll give the coords. Probably won't be a permanent base though. Just something to have fun with.

So, I've taken over the farm not far from spawn, im going to try and get it going then move on. Already had a couple people try to attack me.

Thanks to the nether, it only takes me 10 minutes to travel to spawn instead of hours. Today, made a journey to spawn to only die from lava as I got near spawn. Fucking spawn man, fixing paths is hard with lava everywhere.

Carry a bucket of water at all times if near fire.
That rule has saved me quite a few times in Minecraft.

A server like this would be more fun if not for X-ray hacks, not so much in just hiding bases from looters, but if they have them then there's no sense in making elaborate booby traps. I'd rig up my base so even Indiana Jones couldn't get his ass in there.

Yeah, back when I played all the time I always logged out with a bucket of water in my 1st hot-bar spot, just in case I logged back in and suddenly lava.
Turns out I'm lucky as fuck. When I logged off I had a stack of each mushroom and some bowls.

Unrelated to the image but related to the chat.
Strings are arrays, which means direct comparison is difficult. string.equals is a function that compares the two arrays entry by entry. You can overload the == operator in certain languages (e.g. c++) to make it so == when used on two string objects will actually run the equals() function automatically. This is sometimes seen as bad practice though.

If I read the 1.2.5 release note correctly, you are not going to like some of it:
- "Fixed command matching being too greedy (for example: typing ‘/stophammertime’ no longer stops your server)"
There's an annihilated base at -2000 2000 that I accidentally teleported into. It's a really good starting point for venturing to uninhabited territory.
I miss my old base 100k out from spawn :C
